Yup.
Carolina INVENTED AN ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT expressly to keep athletes eligible and they didn't even get a slap on the wrist.
The Miami offenses are even worse and two years later, still nothing from the NCAA.
ESPN is catching on now too

The NCAA needs to BREAK BAD on these programs. Vigorous enforcement is the only solution if they are going to have a rule of law. Otherwise, get rid of all the regulations and start paying the players. It is SO frustrating to see successful on-field programs doing so much cheating to get ahead, at the expense of the cleaner programs.
And about the guy with the chip on his shoulder against OSU? Sounds like the perfect person to have participating since he is likely to go the extra mile to uncover all of the stink that has been going on.
Sorry for the aggression, 12 years of law enforcement work will do that to you.
Pretty much my thoughts; they show promise, but we need to see how their system and style of recruiting pans out in the next few years to really know the end game.
I am not sure if there is a fair way to evaluate him yet.
Is Loeffler and his staff an upgrade? Absolutely, because their execution has looked better than some previous Hokie offenses that had much better athletes.
Are they a good college offensive staff? That is yet to be determined. We have no idea if the offense will look like it did against Alabama, or more like last week. Last week, essentially they ran the basic package that they implemented in spring practice. The positive? They executed it well for the most part.
We won't know if this is a good offensive team until we see them against a variety of ACC teams. I will start to draw conclusions after the UNC game.
I don't think they will be a juggernaut this season. I just don't see the big play ability to overcome small execution errors. 10-12 play 80 yard drives are tough, especially in a system where the backs and linemen both have to be on the same page in order to be effective. Mistakes will happen. The big question in my mind will be, can they continue to do things that are fundamentally found, and will the level of fight/compete level against the remaining teams on the schedule be on par with their effort against Alabama. If the ultimate answer to both questions is yes, then the talent will come and the future is bright.
I love Sam Rogers. He's the definition of Hokie!
As long as VT is winning games the right way (and I believe that's how we do it here), I think Frank's job will be quite safe. The flashy programs, are the ones that bend or take one too many liberties with ethics and the rules.
Neither can Dan Wetzel. These guys are ridiculous. My favorite part of the Yahoo article:
When contacted by Yahoo Sports, Schroeder affirmed that Bray was a friend and initially agreed to an interview. When informed the story was about Bray's involvement with Davis, Schroeder said he didn't know who Davis was. When asked why his name appeared as a recipient on a $700 Western Union transaction from Davis that also listed Bray, Schroeder replied: "Uh, man, I have no comment on that." Schroeder then declined to continue the interview.
I love this. You KNOW how this conversation went:
Yahoo: Is this Schroeder?
Schroeder: Yes
Yahoo: Are you friends with Tyler Bray?
Schroeder: Yup, he's a friend.
Yahoo: Would you agree to an interview for a Yahoo story?
Schroeder: Sure! [At this point, he should have already known he was in for it]
Yahoo: The story is about Bray's involvement with Davis.
Schroeder (under his breath): Oh shit!
Schroeder (talking regularly): I don't know any Davis.
Yahoo: Why did your name appear with Tyler Bray's for this $700 Western Union receipt from Davis?
Schroeder (under his breath): FUCK!
Schroeder (talking regularly): Uh, man, I have no comment on that.
Schroeder: I'm out, peace!
If this article is true, then Alabama can say bye bye to their NC's and maybe even Saban.
I just know Lefty will give the best QB the nod, whomever that may be.
Anyone else feel like the NCAA has turned into a huge shit show? I feel like everyday we hear about some kind of violation and the NCAA just can't keep it under control. I love college football. It's the best sport on this planet and I hate that this crap makes headlines and you see no good news come out of it anymore. I think the NCAA needs to make an example out of someone (AND KEEP THE PENALTIES CONSISTENT) or just totally redesign their rule book and attempt to keep the field level. It's easier said than done but this crap is ridiculous.
It is a bootleg pass route. If the defenders in the left flat start ignoring his route and crashing inside, Loeffler can call bootleg and catch them with their pants down. It keeps those defenders honest and slows their pursuit. If Logan was really good at play fakes and ran out his bootleg fakes, it would be much more effective.
In the break room at the Richmond FBI Field Office, watching the big screen, realizing that my friends and I had a lot of work to do, and that the world would never be the same.
How about some good old sports games like Tecmo bowl and super tecmo bowl. They brought people together for hours trying to play a whole season.
A couple of notes on the SI article:
1. One of the reporters who worked on the article, Thayer Evans, is a known OU homer and has a history of going out of his way to take shots at OSU. I believe I heard (I can't verify this) that he lost his job with Fox Sports because he falsified his resume. Other journalists, including past associates have spoken out questioning his credibility (see Jason Whitlock's Twitter feed). Also, multiple players cited in the article have come forward saying their words have been twisted. Not to say nothing in the article is true, but I think there's at least reason to take it with a grain of salt.
2. Even if everything in the article is true, there is very little the NCAA can do about it. There is a 4-year statute of limitations, and basically everything in the article happened more than 4 years ago.
Biggest shocker in the world!

Charles Robinson.
He can't be stopped.
appropriately titled thread sir, well done
I'm 99% sure that the FB in during the Caleb run is former walk-on Fuller Hoepner
" Brahmbhatt declined comment through his attorney..."
Naw, man...that's not too fishy.
They have not run that interesting back side seal play as of yet. Since Alabama maintained such strict gap discipline with their front in the 3-4, that bend back counter would not have been a great call. Against Western Carolina, I think they did not want to show any particular counters, so they ran what amounted to the top 3 running plays that were installed in the spring.
One counter they did show was a simple variation of the inside zone. From Pop Warner/Midget League football on up, an inside linebacker's first key against an I formation is "the fullback takes you to the football." On this variation of the inside zone, the fullback lead blocks away from the direction of the play. This serves two purposes. First, it freezes the linebacker, who may read that the play is going to the weak side. Second, the fullback is in better position to create a cutback lane.

This play has some positives and negatives. To the play side, Duan Perez-Means turns the outside linebacker to the sideline. The left defensive end is aligned over right tackle Laurence Gibson. The defensive end stunts hard to the inside. Gibson takes the appropriate step to the play side and moves to the second level linebacker.
Now things go a bit awry. A large hole has developed from Mean's excellent turn out block and the stunt by the end to the inside. Brent Benedict, who entered the game on the previous series for an injured Andrew Miller, seems to run into the defensive end without reaching him. With the poor aiming point, if Benedict drives the end, he pushes him right back into the hole that has just formed. Fortunately for the Hokies, the end is as surprised as Benedict and doesn't recover to get back into the play. Meanwhile, Gibson looks like a freight train running into the inside linebacker, but catches him on his inside shoulder rather sealing his outside shoulder to the inside. The linebacker retreats slightly, and Gibson loses his balance and contact with the defender. The linebacker makes the tackle with the safety.
Still, this is a six yard play. Benedict is playing his first repetitions with the first team, so it is to be expected that his timing would be a bit off. Gibson's mistake was an overly aggressive mistake, and any coach worth a pee will tell you that if you make a mistake, you should make it aggressively.
Because they aren't in bed with the schools they are supposed to be reporting on (*cough*ESPN*cough*cough*)?
I'm only half through the Yahoo article and I'm all caught up on the SI article, but HOW IS IT THAT YAHOO IS THE BEST INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM IN SPORTS
Indeed.

Not sure if he'll play next year, but I think Ford will eventually take over. He's Lefty's first recruit I think.
