The Somali Pirates are a nice touch
Lost it at Somali alumni doing the wave at a tailgate, great stuff once again
#TEAMVINEGARSAUCE all the way
While WCU is an FCS school, their pass defense was solid. They made good plays that accounted for Logan's 2 INTs, played with correct technique, and did not let our receivers run pass them too often. The also rallied to the ball and tackled well.
Logan needs to recognize the underneath is usually open and hit his check downs, esp. the tail backs coming out of the backfield. Against the smaller WCU guys I would have liked to see JC and Trey catching the ball in space and making a play.
While he won't be showing off his arm, those short throws will raise his completion percentage, move the chains, and loosen up the deep routes. Logan needs to get rid of the Power Forward mentality and realize he's a point guard, at least in this offense.
Great read. +1 on the quintuple hooker homicide reference!
Spectacular. Get all those INTs out of the way.
Given the recent history between these two teams, the 7-point spread sounds pretty accurate to me. ECU has a heck of an offense and we have a heck of a defense. They have a porous defense and we have an inconsistent offense.
For fear of starting something that I may not be able to finish, I will go ahead and give B's Barbeque a thumbs up. Even though I am a disciple of Lexington Style, B's throws down some pretty good stuff.
Gotta get there early. They only serve until they run out, and they usually run out before 2 pm.
(Also, I'm absolutely ready to face the ramifications of the ECU v Hokies series ending.)
ahh perfect timing. having a rough couple days and i see this pop up. good stuff.
The Annexation of North Carolina has begun!
In my opinion, individuals are innocent until proven guilty. And this young man was found to be not guilty. There should be no reason why he should not get a shot if he has the talent and the academic qualifications.
Long time listener, first time caller.
French, I love your analysis- they are always spot on. However, you mentioned that Cato can run. He really can't, he ran for 32 yards in his freshman campaign and 31 last year. My fiance went to Marshall so we go to a lot of the games when VT is away, and despite being small and athletic, Cato never really seems to get going (or try to) on the ground and often gets caught by lineman in pursuit. I am really interested in you all breaking Cato down because I think he is the black version of Kellen Moore. Which scares me for obvious reasons.
I can understand that sentiment but I don't think that's the case with this kid. Here's a quote from a 247 article about his unofficial to VT:
My journey, before I get to college, is the drive. It is the drive, not just on the football field but off of it as well, good academics and making good decisions to be an overall good person and a positive leader. I am just humble and hungry, that will stick with me forever, no matter what I will remember what I had to get through to get to where I am going.
Going to prep school has changed me as a player first and foremost because it is a daily grind. I am not at home, not in high school, away from my family and it is a daily grind. I have to be mentally and physically prepared for the grind. As a player it is physically and mentally preparing me. I have two to three workouts and a practice per day. It is making me mentally better to just go through the program. It feels like college, being away from family and following a strict schedule.
It's very common in the NFL, and somewhat common in the SEC (Auburn fan and grad, Dad went to VT and I was born in Blacksburg, so grew up a Hokie).
Anyway, they will be able to account for that when they play man. If a man is on the RB/TE, he can stay and spy the RB/TE and LT if the RB/TE stays in to block the whole time, or move out with the RB/TE when he releases from a block. DC's don't typically do that though, because as soon as the opposing OC sees them do that, they know they have single coverage at least one other place unless they're rushing 3 (I think). Zone coverages can more easily account for this, but if the LB's are moving back with the receivers who are running routes 10+ yards past the line of scrimmage, the underneath dump off to the RB/TE for a few yards is very viable.
Probably way more than that comment warranted, but oh well. I like Loeffler, and am convinced his "failure" at Auburn was the result of Chizik micromanaging instead of Loeffler's incompetence (Auburn's offense was fine in the Clemson game before Chizik got to messing with the offense). The RB/TE coming out of the backfield after blocking for a few ticks is nice. It also allows LT to throw at the RB/TE's feet for an easy incompletion if he's about to get sacked.
I think Mike London mistook top-tier for top-tear

I hope they paid these prospective job candidates with a nice 84" LG widescreen.
The LOLUVA-Miami game was an interesting, yet totally stereotypical wahoo game. Some observations:
1. A majority of fans were there by kickoff, but a large percentage (10%, maybe?) didn't come in until mid-first quarter.
2. A lot of fans leave stadium around half-time, but use a second ticket to get back into the stadium. One wonders what this means regarding their attendance figures. Overstated, perhaps?
3. Mid-third quarter to fourth quarter, mass exodus. This is during a wahoo comeback, competitive ACC game. By the end of the game, of the roughly 58-60K people (supposedly) there, stands have visible open areas...down to about 45K (my estimate). This during a game that they won in the last minute of play.
This game just reinforced my belief that LOLUVA will never be a top-tier football team.
I don't like having Kendall on punt returns. It shouldn't be a starter and IMO Mangus is perfect for the job.
I agree with the above posters. Should get a second chance. But I don't think we should give it to him in Blacksburg. At the moment.
EDIT: Hadn't read the article yet when I posted this. My opinion is more negative now. Definitely not in Blacksburg.
The more and more I see Loeffler's offense, the more I'm loving this hire.
Loeffler likes to leave his RB's and TE's in pass protection for a couple of ticks, and then have them leak out once the underneath defenders have committed themselves in coverage.
Good lord that is brilliant. I don't know if that's common or not, but I'm afraid that ACC coaches will be able to figure that out and account for Cline in coverage. On the other hand, that could leave other receivers uncovered.
Great review, Mason! Keep it up :D
Yeah I think for the program as a whole, we dont want that kind of black cloud hanging over our head. I think CFB has done an incredible job of keeping a clean and respected football program in Blacksburg, for many years now. I know just about every university has to deal with the occasional idiot/troublemaker....and I know we're no different. We have certainly had a few of those in the past. I simply think that we need to stay away from those type of recruits. We dont need them that bad anyway. Besides.... we're not in the SEC.... We dont need to lower our standards...lol.
Let him Play, IF he can contribute let him play.
SO was the Skyline in the TV what was really outside of a "window"? This prank would only work if the Skyline was actually what would be directly behind the wall. I Want this TV for football.
Being the 38-0 bro game was so satisfying. Tech owns that stadium.

Only ran the liberty track once and did not care for it
