Shuckin' Shack is a great raw bar in a very relaxed atmosphere. Very Kid Friendly.

Soul Flavor has great food. A local favorite and wonderful people. Get a reservation for a family.
Celtic Creamery for Ice cream. Very Kid Friendly.

Every Thursday Night fireworks from the pier at Pleasure Island, that's like the mini amusement park at the boardwalk there at Carolina Beach.

The seafood at The Spot is a nice way to do lunch at a good price. Rotating selection of craft beers is well chosen. Great wraparound deck for eating outside. Nice people there as well. Very Kid Friendly.

A twilight drink on the pier over the water at the Tiki bar is a local favorite. We go there lots. Get a fish tacos or sandwich. Great Place to watch the fireworks. Kids are welcome.

The Fat Pelican is the best dive bar in the world. Kids are welcome. Games to play. Selection of bottled craft beer is outstanding. Nice selection of sodas and waters as well. No food sold.

Kate's Pancake House. For breakfast or lunch the food to price ration will make the family wallet happy. No reservations but send somebody over to start the wait in line. It'll be 35-45 minutes every day of the week they are open.

For seafood market see Seaview Crab Company. It's on the right on rt 421 as you head from Wilmington to Carolina Beach. Also, attached to that parking lot is a farmers market with a very large selection of fresh fruits and veggies. Both of those a re 2x/week stops for us.

The Veggie Wagon, further down towards Kure Beach has hand dipped icecreams, local veggies and a rotating selection of about 8 local craft beers. Bring a couple growlers, they fill them at a very good cost.

The south end of Carolina Beach has a "lake". Very cool farmer's market/artists market every Saturday morning.

Every Monday morning at the boardwalk area they do a turtle walk. That stretch of the coast has many sea turtle egg sites. The kids will love this and they'll bring you to one of the protected nests.

Also, Fort Fisher is just south of Kure Beach. Think the movie "Glory" and you get the idea. Also, for rainy days, the aquarium there is a good idea.

If you have a 4 wheel drive, the beach just south of there is open for driving access. Day passes to drive on it are very reasonable. Great to bring a day long picnic type of thing on the beach.

In Wilmington is the Battleship USS North Carolina. You can walk all over it. Watch the movie Greyhound then go walk on a warship for a great experience.

You have a questions about Carolina or Kure beach, just drop them here.

There have been some really hilarious social media articles on European Fans enjoying their travels across the USA. Find some, they are great and ... appreciate what you have.

My limited Hatteras experiences also have been poor.

If you ever go to the Pacific side of Costa Rica, it's wild. A double digit sailfish release day isn't a big deal. There are lots of marlin and when they see the tuna schools, you can throw top water plugs on a big spinning rod to them and they crush it

And that, kids, is how I met your mother.

Oh, I get the pursuit, just don't like killing big fish for money. I will admit to one unsatisfying trip out of Hatteras. I was the only newbie on the boat, and the only one that didn't get shitfaced as the day wore on without action. Three different times, I saw a bill up behind our rigs and called it out. Because I was new, and the captain was lazy in my opinion, he blew me off all three times after a cursory look once and then left it to the mate who was bored to tears and didn't bother to spend a minute to look. Finally, at day's end, we got a fish on and the woman who was first up took the chair and had a big bull dolphin on. Another rod went down and the mate yelled at me to take the chair as I was going to wake up the next man up, I said wait and the mate said nope and jumped into the chair. OK, I wised up and made him scoot, took the rod, and also was into a big bull mahi. Problem was, we both had the same fish. She'd fight him on her side, then I'd have him on my side for a bit. Got him in, 35 lbs and a great fish, but that was the sum of the day. I felt like it was money wasted and though the captain was well known and supposedly a great fisherman, I didn't care to go again. That was around '90. The ocean in the Gulf Stream is really cool and I loved being out on the water, but catching fish always beats a boat ride, especially an expensive one.

Ok, let's take out the word "whack" and replaced it with "significantly altered"? It's to setup so others can go and read up on the situations at the various schools themselves, others may not know about those actions.
The intent was to add information, not be inflammatory. That's not really what I do here.
Also, it is not contradictory to GGC's comment. It is contextual.
Similar situations, depending on POV, exist at some of these other schools.

edited for word duplication.

VAR accounted for one. With VAR we could see more. The other 2 could have gone either way. But they were also straight reds so it could be they plan to call it tighter.

So were they out there wild'n today or are the refs gonna call this Cup tight? 3 red cards is crazy

They had the worst odds in Group A to get out of it before the game. Very few people had hopes they would advance. But the sure as heck didnt help themselves at all w the reds.

8 of the 12 3rd place teams will advance out of group. There will be some slaughter games 5-0 or so where those teams have zero shot of advancing.

Expansion was a money grab and this is what we will get from it. But, I think it can also help grow the game and maybe then countries will get better and the tournament can be more competitive outside of the European and South American teams.

I mean, I know they're not technically out, but losing 2-0 with a yellow card and two reds has to make it EXTREMELY unlikely that South Africa will advance from the group. That loss might actually be the earliest a team has ever effectively been eliminated from a tournament. The way they played today, I just don't see them getting enough points to secure the 3rd place slot. Even if they do, those two reds are going to hurt them when it comes time to evaluate which 8 of 12 the 3rd place teams advance.

i like the: what's the difference between a garbanzo bean and a chick pea? i've never had a garbanzo bean on my chest before...

They eat the shit out of striped marlin in Cabo

Long liners catch them in the Atlantic, it's a steak fish like a wahoo

That's a big female they killed, that's alot of egg laying that was just sacrificed

I love to fly fish too but marlin fishing is awesome. Get a top water bite 20 yards behind the boat and it may change your opinion on it

Meh, recruiting services weren't as good at evaluating players pre-2011, and pre-2005, services only rated notable players (there were only 26 players who had a composite score from 2000-2004), so the data is kinda funky

The one thing that does stand out (and I've said this for ages) is Frank's classes always had a high ceiling.

The first half of this is, at the very least, missing a lot of context surrounding what's happened at the various schools. Some of those were actions by the legislature (VCU), some were votes by their own boards of trustees (VMI). The GMU thing looks like it was a total clusterfuck, both before and after their rector stepped down. Is there political context behind all that stuff? Sure. Did the governor "whack" the boards? Feels hyperbolic at best, intentionally inflammatory at worst.

The second half seems to be ignoring the other 340 comments on here that spell out, at least some of, what was going on behind the scenes. If you don't want to read all that, then don't. But if you're going to comment on an already pretty charged board, it feels like it's worth having a bit of nuance to what you're saying.
