Hokie Tracks Are Following Danny Coale, Quantum Punter

Virginia Tech Hokies football, basketball, athletics blog and forum featuring: unique columns, breaking news, film studies, in-depth analysis, recruiting, videos and jokes.

His name is Alston, not Bruce.

"We went up for Junior Day and there were all these people talking to him," Brooks said. "People he didn't know were just coming up and saying, 'This is Bruce Smith's son.' They were being real nice to him, and they'd never met him. He seemed, not annoyed, but uncomfortable."

"A lot of people think I picked Tech just because my dad went there," said Alston, who said he didn't consider family history as a positive or negative. "They showed me the most interest from the start. They sent me handwritten notes. When I was at their camp, I really liked the coaches."

Motivated kid, hall of fame lineage, size and athleticism-- I have to believe we're getting one hell of a "late bloomer".

Jayron Hosley will follow Tyrod and be the second Hokie to be featured on ESPN's "Sports Science".

The segment on Hosley will focus on his speed, reaction time and vision in reading a quarterback, all traits that helped him lead the nation in interceptions last season.

Queue up the Hosley highlights.

Wiz's Boarding Pass, interesting track selection, I would have went with Rick Ross' The Boss.

Doug Doughty reports two of the state's top ten players will announce their college decisions early this week. Eli Harold will decide between UVa, Florida and North Carolina and Trey Edmunds will pick from Tech, North Carolina and Maryland.

Edmunds, a gifted athlete who potentially could play running back, said in an interview with Brian Mohr of hokiehaven.com that he would like to make a decision by Aug. 1, which is Monday.

Edmunds' father, Ferrell, played tight end at the University of Maryland and for several NFL teams. If I'm not mistaken, Trey is short for Ferrell Edmunds III. Maryland is on his final four, as is North Carolina, but you've got to believe that Wednesday's dismissal of coach Butch Davis will kill the Tar Heels' chances.

Tech assistant Bryan Stinespring has been in on the Hokies' recruiting of Edmunds from the start and has continued on the case despite his reassignment to Virginia Beach. UVa assistant Shawn Moore, a Martinsville product who know Ferrell Edmunds from the NFL, has been one of the UVa recruiters.

In other news, Mike London is making excuses to explain why more recruits holding both Tech and UVa scholarship offers are selecting the Hokies.

"You see these things about who offered who [or] who didn't offer who," London said Tuesday. "Some of it may be attributed to the fact that, academically, we can’t offer that individual. Postion need-wise, we don't offer that individual. [Because of] the coaches ability to recruit that school and the chances of getting that player me might not offer."

Academically speaking, I wonder how Morgan Moses is handling Jefferson's curriculum?

Quantum punting is the next evolution of Beamer Ball, a special teams science already well regarded by physicists for its study of multi-phasic tri-dimensional punt blocking and anti-time field goal kicking techniques. Invent the Future.

If the Hokies have perfected the quantum punter, you will see some amazing things. "That's a high one, and it's not there now, wait, the ball has reappeared there, and now it's a giant love seat OH GOD GET OUT OF ITS WAY." We can only hope this is what Frank Beamer means, and that VT will win several games when punting teams into parallel dimensions and realities, like one where they have a quarterback, or one where Frank Beamer is coaching the all-kicking game he secretly craves a second career in, Australian Rules Football.

This belongs here.

Danny Coale, quantum punter.
