Florida State leads the way in NFL draft

Florida State followed up its big first round with a huge NFL draft weekend, as the Seminoles led every program in the nation with 11 total picks, setting a new school record.

That's right. The Noles had more picks than national champion Alabama (nine) and SEC power LSU (nine), two schools that played for the national championship following the 2011 season. More than in-state rival Florida (eight), too.

I must say that's impressive. But it must be as disappointing for them, as the 2005 season was for us. All that talent, and no Crystal Football to show for it. Jimbo Fisher is no Bobby Bowden (hopefully it stays that way).

They basically carried the acc to second behind the sec. At least its good that Alabama lost at something.

They blew a double digit lead to NC State, blew a double digit lead to the worst VT team in 20 years but came back, and blew a lead against a Florida team with no offense whatsoever with all that talent. Excellent work, Jimbo.

FSU and Miami keep having the exact same problem. They are among the most talented teams in the country year after year, but they never figure out how to be a team. Solving this issue is what makes Saban a generational coaching talent. He gets the talent and then has the skill set to translate that into a team. I don't know if I'd call Jimbo a "bad coach" I just don't think his skill set is motivating individuals to play as a team. Very few people have said skill set. In fact I think Beamer has it more than most coaches if you look back at our history of "no names" playing as a team I think it shows that he does. If we get some top shelf talent and continue playing as a team, Beamer can do something special.

I think the difference is that Saban and Beamer are HEAD coaches. Naturals. Jimbo is a position coach/co-ordinator by nature, and is trying to learn the head coaching skill-set. I think it can be learned, but those who come by it naturally develop the team concept better.

Good point, although I'm not so sure that it can be "learned". I think it's something you are born with kind of like being a leader. Sure you can "learn", but you can always tell the person who naturally was gifted and refined it vs. someone who learned it along the way. I think this is a skill set that Foster possesses as well, which is why it still befuddles me that he hasn't gotten a shot at being an HC yet.

I think that the leadership thing is different than the head coaching skills..... I think they're necessary, but I think that part of the whole HC gig is almost CEO-like qualities. There are various facets to this, part marketing, part recruiter, part comptroller, a little bit of everything. Leadership fits in with this, but it's by no means the major part, I think.

Agreed, I was simply trying to make a comparison between being born with something vs. learning it and used leadership as the example. Clearly I failed.

Heather Dinich must had an orgasm when she was writing that article.

Edit: Excuse me...Dinich's adopted sister wrote it, and Dinich had an orgasm reading it.

In other news, the Noles are losing a QB to the Cousins:

Former Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett has decided to transfer to West Virginia, the player told ESPN's Joe Schad.

If it was me, being a backup QB around all those FSU women would a great gig, but I'm sure he'll find Morgantown to be a nicer clime than Tallahassee...
