MLB Draft

Chad Pinder was selected in the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft last night, going to the Oakland Athletics in the second "competitive balance round" (71st overall pick) which takes place between the second and third rounds. Pinder has the option of returning to Tech for his senior year, but with a likely $700,000+ signing bonus, that seems pretty unlikely.

Pinder joins Denny Wagner, Mike Conte, and Greg Ferguson as Hokies selected by the Oakland A's and is the highest draft pick out of Virginia Tech since 2002 when Joe Saunders was the 12th overall pick by the Anaheim Angels.

The draft continues the next two days with rounds 3-10 Friday and rounds 11-40 on Saturday. Both days can be heard on MLB.com, with one minute between all picks on Friday and no delay between picks on Saturday.

Several other Hokies expect to hear their names called in the next couple days including Tyler Horan, Joe Mantiply, Andrew Rash, Devin Burke, and hopefully many more! This year has been monumental for Hokieball and it is great to see these guys getting rewarded for their hard work.

Good luck to all of the other guys waiting to hear their names called, including the area high school players, and Go Hokies!
