An interesting article on high school athletes and their take on how important a teams uniforms are to them.
Note: Virginia Tech was on the "Best Uniform", others receiving votes side. Phew!
Sorry.

I think we've already established here than few, if any, are fans of #TEAMNOPANTS.
But apparently, uniforms are more important than the article.
link?
Sorry. Corrected.
I always wore my uniform. Yes, some people called me a square, and old fashioned, but I prefer my dangly bits to be as snug as possible until the play is called dead.
That's what she said...right?
Redacted
He's a 17/18 year old kid who wants to make sure he's making the right decision. He still says VT is at the top of his list. Let's not do this. Please. Let's not do this.
Edit: I'd better comment on the topic as well.
Interesting that Bama/PSU are leading the "worst" categories. They are by their very nature as bland and average as possible, leading me to believe that no one would have a strong opinion of them either way. I wonder why recruits think they're the worst?
Are you really 33 years old
If so, I would like to apologize on behalf of all the other 33 year old TKPers.
Thank you so much! So where can I buy it? Where can I find papilgee4evaeva's book on "The Only Way To Behave at 33"? Clearly you're the great expert and sole source of authority on the matter, right?
Well clearly you are not
Never claimed to be.
That is awfully rude.
You feel better now?
I'd feel A LOT better if our grad, doctoral students in engineering as well as engineering alumni would develop some type of secret mind altering/control device to retain commitments from top ranked talent in VA.
But, to answer your inquiry more thoroughly, we still have not secured one 4 star recruit from the 757, and at current, signs don't point to recruiting improving for this season, so all said

That's why I'm adding a little bit of this to my kettle cakes this morning
Don't be a jerk.
kill it with fire!
no seriously, can someone delete this level of douchery?
Comment redacted. Btw, I don't get the reference. I only became a member towards the conclusion of the '14 season, but I've seen a few Bender gifs and such on here (every now and so). I've always thought it was folks just screwing around. Will someone please explain them to me? Thanks.
Edit: I will say this: the "Garbutthole" comment cannot have been the worst thing spoken of Tyjuan in the realm of Hokiedom. Also, I predict with 90% or more chance that IF he should commit to sPitt and whence both our teams meet on the field, if he behaves in a shitty fashion to our players, I predict with 90% chance or more certainty that the term will return as part of the Hokie vernacular. Also, in which case, worse things will also be spoken. That is all.
A member who was banned long ago had Bender as his avatar. He consistently flamed, trolled, and acted childish solely for whatever purpose he had in mind. So rather than simply calling someone a troll or saying their actions are inappropriate, someone usually posts an image of Bender as a reminder that poor conduct is not tolerated.
Just followed you on twitter. An explanation that accomplishes at least two things at the same time deserves reward. Nicely done!
It doesn't really matter if that is the worst thing he is called in Hokie Nation. I always try to post as if the person were reading it themselves and I'd say anything I have said or giffed to that person face to face. And it really doesn't help to point fingers at others in Hokie Nation and say we can do it because they are too! That's childish. I love the humor on TKP because it's usually tongue in cheek and not terribly offensive to an individual but you're being childish.
Whatever dude. At this venture, I've been done. Point I was making is that IF he waffles to sPitt and acts like a turd to our team on & off the field, the term (&/or worse) will inevitably return NOT just to Hokiedom, but to TKP. I hope he stays. I disagree that he's a kid though. Young? Absolutely. But he ain't no kid. If he flips to sPitt or anywhere else, we deserved to lose him. But I'll agree this discussion belongs on two other threads. Back to the topic at hand: I never favored Pitt's unis (speaking of which, noticed that they weren't on either list, much like LOLUVA).
Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath on others adopting it
Okay, last comment I'm making as I know I get way too far into these internet chains. I'm all for the funny moments but you, without fail, alter every university's name to something degrading or insulting. That may be cool for some, or funny at times, but I keep reading sPitt, scUM, Loserville, and a ton of bullshit. I am letting you know I will begin down voting your comments based on this as I think it's a shit way to represent. We're known for our hospitality at games and our welcoming atmosphere. Don't let it be different on the internet just because you are anonymous.
Never used that one.
Fine. Your and anyone else' choice. It's not like I use it all the time. But yea, go crazy. Didn't realize this was a safe space.
Yep. I'm all for immature jokes if they're funny. But Garbutthole? That's not funny at all. It's cringeworthy how not funny it is. That makes me think he was born closer to 2003 than 1983.
You're more than welcome to carbon date me if you so desire (: (in good jest)
so you redacted the original insult only to edit another comment to say the same insult in effort to justify it so that it still can be read
Are you really that dense or you just think everyone else is?
If it hurts that much, why keep harping on it? I've moved on.
obviously, that's why you went back and edited that comment to say it again. you clearly moved on.
At this point to about an hr and half ago, yeah. I have. But from your post and neg legs I feel tempted conclude that you (and a few others) haven't.
Dude...
Thanks for underlying my point. Leg.
oh... damn, you're right, I totally forgot there was a 1 hour statute of limitation on being a disrespectful. what was I thinking?
In this instance (for me), yes. I'm not speaking for anyone else.
.....
Say...anyone else notice in the latest Hokie Swag mag (on campus bookstore)...they have a whole series they're calling the "vault collection". It's all the throwback (and way-way backs). They must have unretired them. Very cool. Maybe we will see something on the field again
Lots of VPI stuff in there, and I have to say I'm loving the old, old Gobbler stuff like the hats and shirts.
...especially the creepy old gobbler!
That's the one I'm talking about!
University Bookstore Vault Collection
Creepy + awesome = how I roll!
Definitely thought it was a peanut with an eye for more than a couple seconds
It's 8:00AM and I'm sipping coffee while debating if I need this in my life... it's going to be a good day.
Can't believe they brought my favorite old mascot back, bought this back in 2008 and have no idea how old it is.
My first game as a kid was 1967 and this conjures up memories of those days. They need to bring back those horns too. Could be a little earlier but I'd say the Claiborne era with a big question mark(?) Nice find and thanks for sharing.
Those big horns were my favorite part of the football game as a little kid.
I ordered this. I have a grey version with the state in maroon and "TECH" in orange, but I loved the maroon version.
I was going to order this hat, but held off.
Are these adjustable?
Yes.
Love that orange one with the fighting gobbler. Glad to see it looks to actually be burnt orange too. So much stuff I've seen out there is a much brighter, and therefore wrong, shade.
I'm wondering if that may be the direction they go for the Bristol uniforms?
Ok, I'll comment. I feel like there's a lot (obviously) homerism involved, particularly on the "historical winning tradition" (i.e. in the case of ND). I also feel like there's a bunch of hate (see Bama and PSU) because of hatred for winning (not taking shots). With that being said, kinda surprised ND is on the liked vs hated side. I don't feel like there's anything particularly special about their unis. Also find it hilarious that LOLUVA isn't even worth being on the hated side or any side for that matter.
To recruits, ND one-offs it with the best of 'em
While the green and gold sequence is appealing, the rest of it is just awful (IMOP). Plus, I will never bring myself to upvote a post involving ND, unless it involves one where they lose &/or are humiliated.
I love ND uniforms. There are only three ways that football uniforms should look:
1:

2:

3:

I'll give you one out of three.
Side note at the Battle of Bristol we should wear AllMaroonEverything and Tennessee should wear AllOrangeEverything
I've read that we'll be wearing something completely different. I'm guessing something grey and black.
Whit Babcock and Andy Bitter discussed in his Q&A article that we have to wear light colors per the contract.
Article
Tenn is coming out in special black uni's, invoking the SEC special uniform curse, while we are coming out in a special light bending uni with stealth mode, where we can go all invisible on them.
This is what Andy Bitter just said in his mailbag:
They have not, and I've heard it's still not finalized at this point what the Hokies will wear. The original letter of agreement said the Vols will wear orange and the Hokies will wear maroon or white (it's right there at point No. 5), so that gives Tech some leeway. Athletic director Whit Babcock has hinted in the past at something special for the game, although he wouldn't divulge what exactly. In May he said, "We're hoping to wear something that maybe people haven't seen but it's not crazy. How about that? I'll just leave it at that. I think it's really sharp." Is that all maroon? Possibly, although everyone's seen that. Could it be a gray or black number? That's probably also a possibility.
Link por favor?
Here you go.
Grazie
we're doing Italian now?
Jawohl
you just gonna cover all of the European languages?
pineapple
is it football season yet?
This is the uplifting thread we all needed.
black and grey aren't light?
I remember Whit saying we'll have a unique uniform this year. Maybe we'll wear it for a Thurs night game.
We are wearing a special uniform for Bristol. No word on what exactly, but Whit seems pretty excited about it. Judging by him mentioning Anthracite a while back, my guess is you'll see some of that on there.
Was just responding to the sub-thread in general with some info I saw on what they might be.
I was making fun of myself.
Looking forward to seeing them. I'm guessing they'll be released in August?
2/3 for myself. I'm all in for that Maroon vs Orange Bristol battle.
Regarding unis, does anybody else feel like we need a different (better/more appealing) shade of orange so that we can distinguish better (in uni color) from LOLUVA? I feel that the orange has the potential danger of creating a mix up.
VT is burnt orange, which share by only one other college.
which college?
Texas if I recall correctly.
I was thinking auburn
auburn has identical colors to LOLUVA. Auburn was founded by a LOLUVA grad and that is why they have the exact same color scheme.
"I say, chaps. The university of my tutelage proffers a most divine set of pigmentations. We must duplicate their preference forthwith."
Technically Auburns colors are burnt orange and navy blue. So we share it with Texas and Auburn.
Auburn and VT use Burnt Orange PMS 158 and are the only two schools to do so. Texas is Burnt Orange PMS 159, so while the name of the color may be the same, the shade is different.
Well that sandpapers my ass.
When they play the red river shootout, the orange of Texas and the red of Oklahoma makes it look like the stadium is full of Hokies.
I stand corrected.
I'm just here to make everyone in this thread drink.

I was wondering when someone would bring that up. I knew there something fishingly familiar about this.
I just heard a week or so ago on Sirius' college sports nation channel that a poll was taken by somebody on uniforms. The top 5 had a traditional uniform not in order but it was Bama, PSU, OSU, Mich and USC. Oregon was like 16th or something. I could be considered old by millennials, I am old for the Army, but I'm not old as a human and I like those choices. Same uni day in, day out with a special one thrown in every other year or so for one game.
I agree that it should be consistent. I also think the helmets should be consistent. I've always thought that our traditional maroon helmet with white VT was the best of the bunch and we barely wore them last year. I will say that the helmet we wore against UVA and Tulsa were awesome.
I'd like to see us with a slightly more modern looking uniform. The shoulder stripes really don't bother me (I loved the maroon jersey with stripes when it first came out), but we've had that look for long enough and could use a refresh. I believe these uniforms were ordered before Whit came onboard? Beamer also loved the look and signed off on them.
I hope we'll get a new look in the next couple of years and it will be a modern version of what we wore in the Vick years.
like these?
haha. NO.
Something like this.
I want...NAY NEED THAT!!!

Is this a concept or is this something VT may actually wear? I am all for this!
Fan creation from several years back, originally picked up as a Nike concept but debunked as a hoax. It is not in compliance with NCAA color requirements.
Out of curiosity, what about this piece of Hokie swag was considered non compliant??
Not enough contrast between the jersey base and the numbers.
Honestly I think white numbers would only improve this design.
I have no photoshopping or graphics skills whatsoever, so I have a weird idea for those of you that do. Can someone mock up a uniform where the jersey has thick horizontal maroon and orange stripes with a white fly-wire color and white numbers so it kind of looks like a striped rugby polo? Similar to the Pittsburg Steelers throwback bumblebee unis, but with much thicker stripes and no box around the numbers. The pants can be white or whichever color the bottom stripe is so it blends. The helmet would be either the maroon with white square root of V logo or the military appreciation Navy-style helmet. I have an image of the total package in my head and I cannot tell if I love it or if it makes sick. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Something like this with a white collar and white numbers:

Based on that description, it'd make you sick.
Mmmmm, that's....that's nice. That's not bad. Thanks (:
I think a rugby-inspired uniform would be a bit too Wahoo for us.
Really? Rugby players are pretty damn tough. Not exactly what comes to mind when thinking of LOLUVa.
I was thinking more in terms of the history of Rugby being an "upper crust" sport.
However, my limited research shows that the UVA women's team is one of the tops in Division I. Thus proving that the women at UVA are, as always, tougher than the men.
Uniforms absolutely matter UNLESS you are a true blue blood program like Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc. Millennials really, really care about uniforms (I would know, I am one...). The previous AD really doomed us with a bad Nike contract. It's weak even in comparison to schools on our level.
Disregard
Don't tell me what to do.
I think it's important to note that since UT is contractually obliged to wear orange, that means that the Hokies can't, and that is a very, very good thing.
Maroon trumps orange.
