The "only" thing that scares me is that this team has been playing on such an emotional high and (get ready for it) are so young that they may yet come out unprepared for any of the next two games. I believe they are more than capable of beating pitt and uva (no caps on purpose) but there is not a lot of margin of error.

A good stat to be compiled would be to compare the number of 3 and outs with Willis verses Hooker in as QB. The number of stalled drives was a big problem with Willis because he had problems running RPO. The number of 3 and outs must be going down since this VT offense is so much more efficient.

I will say though. Hooker has made some questionable decisions that I swear should have been picked off. I think weve gotten lucky a few times with defenders dropping passes or just not being good enough to make the play
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I saw at least 2 against GT. One was a completion that he must've hit the most precise window possible over the middle of the field. Another was incomplete.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That decision over the middle is why he's qb1. He has the accuracy to make that throw and proved it. The other was when he rolled to his right and threw behind keene(?) That was a poor decision.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Agreed that he had to be super accurate, and he was for that play. I specifically remembering thinking that ball was picked before our guy came away with it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm almost positive it's the same feeling I had and after watching the play in context of Hooker throwing over the middle I came to realize my butt clenching was because we haven't had a QB that can make passes like that over the middle in a few years. That was a timing and decision making like we haven't had in a while. He's very much capable of those passes his throws are a rope at 10-15 over the middle and he's accurate enough when in the pocket to deliver IF the pass pro is there
To be fair to JJ he showed the ability to make those passes to but RW was not good over the middle and for whatever reason we haven't given qp those routes to throw at so it's been seemingly a long time since we've seen slant routes like that.

I received an email from them back on the ides of October reading,
The Hokie Club and Virginia Tech Ticket Office are pleased to announce that we will be upgrading our online ticketing and donation system! [...]
We ask for your patience as we upgrade our system. The Hokie Club's online giving platform will be temporarily unavailable beginning October 17. We anticipate being up and running early November with our enhanced platform. More details will be shared at that time regarding signing in to your account and making online gifts.
Please contact the Hokie Club, hokieclub@vt.edu or 540-231-6618 with any questions about your Hokie Club account, or to make a gift.
Hopefully they're back up soon; Go Hokies!

Almost all of them. ESPN put a six day hold on most of their games. Fortunately, RSN already has two games scheduled, so we won't get dumped down there.
There is a primetime slot on ACCN, and the only two games available for that are ours and Wake/Duke. I think the only other primetime slot available is ESPN2. It's hard to predict the hierarchy in the first season of the new network.
I'm hoping for a primetime slot as I have a day trip to make, so the primetime game is the only one I'd be able to see the majority of.

Virginia Tech closes its regular-season schedule with two home games that will help determine the Coastal Division race, including next week's game against Pittsburgh.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If we can pull out the victory over Pitt then I'd say we are a solid top 25 team. If we pull out both remaining regular season games, I can see us getting into the top 20. If we win three in a row, I think top 15 is reasonable. If we win four in a row, I'm looking at us around 12. If we win five games before February, then top ten. And if we win six, then number 1 baby!

VT had one more win today than GT had points. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"

Our defense held GT to a donut and also scored a touchdown. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"

The Hokies averaged 5.3 yards per carry and 13.9 yards per pass attempt. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"

Speaking of which, Georgia Tech's longest rush and longest reception of the day were each 17 yards, which means Caleb Farley's 17 yard pick six was tied for the longest play resulting from a GT offensive snap. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"
F A M
GT's punter, Pressly "Big Chonk" Harvin III, had 9 punts for 434 yards. None of them resulted in a VT possession that started inside our own 20. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"
F A M
GT had a delay of game penalty on the opening snap of the day, and it somehow only got worse for them. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"
F A M
The Hokies attempted only 16 passes on the day compared to GT's 25. The Hokies gained 238 yards rushing to GT's 53. The Hokies had the ball for 31:39 compared to GT's 28:21. Somewhere, Coach Paul Johnson thought he faintly smelled garlic and rolled over in his coffin. Let the Hokies in the assembly say "Fam"

Agreed. Only Pitt scares me. I think we curb stomp LOLUVA.
Pitt's defense is good. Their offense is nothing special.
Their offense is bad.
So they are playing vintage mid 2000s VT?

FAM! We brought the bug spray big time. We killed those stupid yellow jackets like we were the flippin orkin man.
I'm starting to suspect Hooker might be a better QB than Willis. Just a guess.
I'm suspecting that the coaches are decent and some of the issues earlier in the season were due to player inexperience.
We literally have nothing to complain about this week.
It's okay to admit that Fuente picked the wrong QB to start the year. Really. He corrected things in time to save the season.
It's also OK to admit that VT is getting better, all around.
They got off to a rough start, but things are looking up.
The coverage on kick off and punts could be better.
Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of room for improvement.
We didn't shut out Ohio State tonight.
You can tell how much better the offense has been just off of how few passes Hooker has needed to throw.
I saw at least 2 against GT. One was a completion that he must've hit the most precise window possible over the middle of the field. Another was incomplete.

Agreed that he had to be super accurate, and he was for that play. I specifically remembering thinking that ball was picked before our guy came away with it.
Pitt and UVA just shit and Clemson cracked an eyelid

Not sure where to leave this nugget, but technically ESPN is wrong and right simultaneously!
Virginia Tech closes its regular-season schedule with two home games that will help determine the Coastal Division race, including next week's game against Pittsburgh.
I saw that too. Shared it with my LOLUVA friends
And GT has to play again Thursday. Whoa.
Well they didn't play Saturday, so they should be ready! Haha
Fam, we're in at 22 in this week's ESPN Power Rankings!
I think I see what you're going for, but I think your count is off by one because Pitt+UVA+ACCCG+CFP Semi+CFP Final = 5 games
That's fair.
I give 0 shits about ranking. The last thing we want is this team to get over confident and forget it takes work to beat these teams.
Better left unranked IMO, until at least the ACCCG so we can go get Oranges.
I agree.
We need ambition, not overconfidence. I want to be ranked when the season is over.
This is ludicrous. If there was any game to be overconfident coming into, it was this one, and we stomped their faces into the turf.
Give me all the rankings we can get. Time to start building our rep back
All we need to do is win. The rankings will follow soon enough.
We know what we need to do. Win the next two games and we go to the ACC championship.
I'm confused as to why the GT game is the one we should've been over confident for when we've lost 3 to them straight years...
Theoretically, shouldn't GT have been the over confident team (had they not had a regime change)?
Because that team is trash this year. Come on. Lol
Trash or not, you don't over look a team you've lost to for 3 years in a row
Unless you're UVA.
I mean in that case we shouldnt worry about the team overlooking Pitt considering they took us behind the woodshed last year. So getting ranked won't make them "overconfident" or whatever nonsense
It works well in our favor that we got butt gouged last year vs Pitt and then our last game is against UVA for a Coastal Ship.
So no real thoughts of over looking opponents.
But you can't disagree that in the past, we make a top 15 or top 10 rank or we get ranked after a long hiatus and then inevitably shit the bed the very next game...
This team is playing with confidence and execution. Until they show me otherwise, I'm not worried about them laying an egg
I'm confused as to what part of my comment was "ludicrous".
You're entitled to a different opinion, but nothing I said was outrageous.
The idea that getting ranked would in any way affect the teams play is ludicrous
Correct, I hope the duke score is posted all over the locker room to keep everyone in check.
I'm generally of the same mindset, but I was pleasantly surprised to see us ranked. Posted because I figured others would be too.
Rat poison.
FAMTASTIC!!
I'm stunned by how much this team has grown up right in front of us the last 4-5 weeks. Suddenly we are dominant on both sides.
Is there a place to see/watch Bud's remarks someone mentioned in another thread about the fans coming out to Lane next week? I want to get a "Get Hype Thread" going, even if it's in my head.

Looking at GT #25 in the second picture... I had to Google Atlanta's area code, because my first thought was an HTTP error that Georgia Tech hadn't found a team culture.

Time for me to get in on this FAM TRAIN! WOO WOO!
A bit late, but this is the big one for me, as most of my blood family are GT fans. But my fam are Hokies!
Late to the thread FAM!
Why is it that Dax always falls on his ass when he picks off a pass?
I think I've seen him pick off three passes in the last three weeks and in each case he caught the ball while sittin' on ass.
Maybe he studied Bucky Hodges film on ball catching?
But is he taller than Bucky Hodges?
Two plaids in one thread, and the "T" button only takes you to the next post, FAM!
