That Houston/Buffalo game was crazy. I can't tell if it was good or bad, but it sure as hell was entertaining. I was hoping that Buffalo would go through for Tremaine, but he'll have more shots in the future too.

I'm scared though to watch the Eagles tomorrow since Wentz haven't beaten them in his career and with all of the injuries will be rough.

Just seeing this but yes. There's been some reports he's not happy with how things are being run. Almost seems like he wants to be the de facto GM a la Lebron.

But when the GM is Bill, and you are tied at the hip of history with him...what the hell's the difference? They're both still at the mercy of Kraft's checkbook, which is exhibit A on that they're not going to go too deep into the well, unless it's a full-court press on the last year or two of these two being around (which, as just a fan of football, I'm all for. Too intriguing.)

I'm more confident about the Eagles winning this game than I was against the Giants in the last week.
Pederson is coaching like we know he can, and Wentz is playing at the level he was at before tearing up his ACL. Yes the Birds have a lot of young "who is that?" guys, but they've played hungry and are clearly letting Carson lead them.

Tough loss for the Saints. I'm a little upset that Kirk Cousins is finally playing well in big games and not shitting up his back like he did in Washington. I was fully expecting an interception in the red zone in overtime. Maybe the Redskins just have a toxic organization where it's difficult for players, especially quarterbacks, to succeed. Just maybe though!

It is crazy how tight all 4 games were this weekend. Of the 3 games I had a vocal opinion about, 2 went the way I hoped. I was hoping the Bills would win because of Tremaine... Buuut.... the Patriots lost (I feel so bad for poor Pretty Boy Brady /s) and the Eagles lost--Wooo! Now I am hoping that the Chiefs meet the Ravens in the AFC Championship and the AFC wins the Super Bowl so that a Hokie gets a ring.

Will they be able to get stops on defense, though? Ravens can lean on the run game just as much or more than the Titans can, and they have more weapons in the pass game to do damage that way.

Count me in the group that is glad the Pat's are out. I'm rooting for a Ravens-Chiefs AFC Championship game. Mahomes and Lamar on the same field is just too entertaining a prospect to not cheer for.
Also happy that Saints are out. WIll never be a fan of Sean Payton. Either the Packers or Seahawks vs. the 49ners and I'll be happy. Again, I think that makes for the best games to watch.
Wife is a bleeds Black and Gold Steeler's fan, but very "chicken little", always worried and negative about every little thing they don't do right. Jury is still out on Flores and McDaniels for me -- the Dolphins played hard for Flores this year even when the front office was trying to tank, and McDaniels was definitely too young and raw for the Denver stint, but who knows how he'd be now.
I think one thing in Judge's favor is that he wasn't a defensive assistant or OC under Belichick -- ST coordinators usually have a unique view of the game that's a little more holistic. John Harbaugh comes to mind.

McDaniel's now would be under his own tree since he already was a head coach and failed. You can't credit Belichick if McDaniels now becomes Lombardi... he already got his own real OJT.

Read an article today (Saturday on CBSsports) that basically says Belichick blocked McDaniels from interviewing early and hyped Judge to the Giants so they would hire him instead of McDaniels. I believe it.
At the same time, Belichick was advocating for Judge for the Giants job, knowing that they couldn't hire both him and McDaniels. The Browns, Giants, and Panthers all requested interviews with McDaniels at the conclusion of the regular season. Belichick would not allow McDaniels to meet the Panthers on Monday, the same day Judge was interviewing with the Giants; Baylor coach Matt Rhule met with the Panthers on Tuesday and was hired by Wednesday.

Cant say as a pats fan this is a thing that leaves me upset like the flores to miami move felt. Honestly didnt even know he was being eyed as a HC anywhere. Flores on the other hand feels a solid hire and definitely was a miss this season for new england.

I really like the hire. I was upset when they didn't even get a chance to interview Rhule, but after listening to him speak, you can definitely tell he has the goods to be a good motivator. Whether that translates to wins it be determined.

Chuck Clark is a Raven? I just heard that on the broadcast and had to look it up - I thought Chuck Clark would have retired a long, long time ago. I thought he played for us like a decade ago. Nah, he was drafted in 2017. Maybe I'm confusing him with DJ Parker? I'm getting old.

Clark may have played himself into a starting safety position. Have to imagine the way E Thomas played today, if they're going to spend money on safeties, it won't be to displace Clark. Can't remember if his contract is up for renewal or not, but he may have gotten a decent payday out of this season.

Just a thought but Henry should be getting more money than Zeke got easily after this run I mean his qb isn't even throwing for 100 yards yet they are cruising through better teams like it's nothing, vrabel also has this defense playing lights out
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Henry's the only back to carry an offense like this in the modern era other than AP. It's been impressive to watch. It's funny he didn't get drafted in the 1st round because he was "too big" and the consequence of that decision is he's about to get his enormous contract a year earlier. Kudos, Derrick.

I think Trent Richardson hurt him too. But 1 game Trent's senior year told me he was going to be a bust, MSU kept him in check. He couldn't find the hole or make something happen. I still maintain David Wilson would have had the Heisman and many Sanders record if he had the Bama line that year.

You do not run that fake at the spot on the field up three possessions. Going for it on fourth and one to go up four possessions earlier would've been smarter.

Mahomes is incredible. Lamar will be a very deserving MVP winner, but if given the choice of any player to build a team around right now I'm taking Mahomes without any doubts.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
hopefully the knee and ankle issues don't linger for Mahomes, because he's really something else when he's healthy. I have durability concerns about Lamar, but really it's just running QBs in general because it's difficult not to average 10-15 carries per game and then not break down earlier than if you didn't take all those hits.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The only concern I would have if im KC is a lack of proper running game its nice when Mahomes can go off like he does but a team like Tennessee could give them fits if they get an early lead and Henry takes over, a couple quick three and outs can do what GT used to do to us and take the game out of reach like that. Youre not gonna get bailed out by moronic play after play like houston did yesterday.

The league just lost one it's best young players in the prime of his career due to concussions.
This kind of thing is only going to happen more often until the league, and the game itself, starts to actually care about head injuries and takes legitimate steps to actually protect the players themselves. And yes, that means taking a zero tolerance policy against any hit to the head with automatic ejections, suspensions, and fines whenever it happens, regardless of intent.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The reality is I just don't know how it's possible to rulebook hits to the head out of the game.
Simple physics makes the task difficult, and as long as these players (and athletes in general) are getting bigger/faster/stronger I just don't think you can eliminate it entirely.
I'm not saying they shouldn't try, just seems like a task that can't be accomplished
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
For the Titans to win today, their defense has to play the best they have played all season. The Chiefs can score at will quickly. If the Titans get behind, I can't see them catching up.
Edit:
This matchup is really interesting me. It's new age football vs. traditional football.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
He's 24 years old and it showed for a lot of the game. He doesn't miss those throws normally, the nerves were definitely playing a role, but he still led two TD drives to take the lead after his rough start. He ultimately stepped up when it mattered most, and I think that shows a lot of that "juice" or "it factor" that separates the good from great QB's. When you are having a bad night, but still make the plays at the end when it matters most says a lot about a QB.
Reminds a little bit of Tyrod's 2009 game against Nebraska. Our whole offense, Tyrod included, didn't do shit outside of Ryan Williams, until the last drive when Tyrod made two incredible throws when it mattered most in the most dire situation. Pat Mahomes had to make even more throws to come back from down 10 in the fourth.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I would have been totally fine if this had been the case, but I think people are being a little too critical on this one when I've seen people call it "a robbery." The Chiefs were down double digits in the fourth before Mahomes led them on two drives to take the lead. I could argue either position, and I think both would have been deserving candidates. I disagree vehemently that it was some kind of highway robbery.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So went and watched the 2nd half and also looked at Mahomes stats. Yep in no way does he deserve it over Williams. 2 INTS, 2 fumbles, underthrew one of only two deep passes all 2nd half and Hill just had enough speed to create space no 49er could knock it down. Mahomes has one nice deep ball to Watkins all 2nd half. Meanwhile Williams is running and receiving and running up yards and 2 TDS in 5 minutes.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Still impossible to separate the fact that without Mahomes they don't have either of those last two TD drives. The QB is always going to be the most critical player on any given drive unless a RB is busting multiple 15+ yard runs, or a WR is taking screens to the house from far out.
Like I said Mahomes had a very tough game early, but he made the plays when it mattered and in that way you can argue he was the most valuable player. I disagree about it being a bad throw to Hill on the 3rd and 15. Once Hill had the hips of the deep defender turned the wrong way on the deep post corner Mahomes knows that nobody else is getting there. He didn't have to risk an overthrow trying to hit him perfectly in stride. He knew there was a spot he could throw to that would maximize the chances for Hill to get the ball, even if it wasn't the best throw for it going for a TD.
Not to mention, you can make an argument that Damien Williams padded his stat line with the 40 yard TD run where it may have been strategically better for him to take a knee at the one. I would never blame the guy for running it into the EZ though. Also from a coaching perspective, I feel like either situation basically seals the game.
All that to say, I still think Damien Williams has as good of an argument for MVP.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Gotta agree that Mahomes is a solid MVP choice. QB will make more mistakes because he has the ball more often. He was off for most of the game, but made a couple of clutch throws at the end and balled out. SF was a tough defense and they rattled Mahomes, but he fought through it and he got it to the right guys in the fourth to win the game.
The game was essentially won before the final Williams TD, so those yards and that TD just padded his stats. (Oh, you said that already, well, I said it again.) He had a good game, definitely did his job, but Mahomes was the difference in the fourth.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
After I posted this originally I stumbled across a PFF thread defending Mahomes as MVP, and in particular praised how important several of his scrambles were in terms of EPA (expected points added). It was an interesting read.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
There's a part of me that wonders if getting SB MVP kind of sucks for the players. I mean, yeah you get all the glory, all the interviews, and you do the parade in Disney.
But, because of the parade, you miss out on the flight home with the rest of the team. I've heard those flights get crazy. And you know there are a ton of parties that start up the second you land. And as MVP, you kind of miss all that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Towards the end of the game, I think after the last TD, there was a shot of a bunch of Chiefs players celebrating on the sidelines. Kendall Fuller was in the background sitting on the bench by himself. He wasn't celebrating. He was focused. He knew the job wasn't done and he had to go out and make sure it was finished properly.
Good job Kendall. Hokies!

No one c-circles the wagons l-like da Buffalo B-Bills.

Um...might want to double check that bracket. Looks like someone's wish list going into week 17.
Shit I'll fix it. I just found a bracket and I didn't double check it.
Josh Allen made more boneheaded plays late in the 4th quarter than any quarterback I have watched in quite awhile. A total meltdown.
Anyone else find themselves struggling on whether to root for the Bills or not?
Tremaine plays for them, but they also treated Tyrod like crap.
They have been bad for so long how can you not root for them.
Also they made Tyrod a multimillionaire. I'm sure he would have liked to been there longer, but he's been fine since then and the checks cleared!
That Houston/Buffalo game was crazy. I can't tell if it was good or bad, but it sure as hell was entertaining. I was hoping that Buffalo would go through for Tremaine, but he'll have more shots in the future too.
Does this mean we get to announce our DL coach tomorrow?
I hope so
Henry is crushing this defensive front 7. Amazing.
It has a NYGs with Brandon Jacobs running the ball type feel.
Henry is having a game. I'd just keep pounding it with him and mixing in a few play actions to keep them honest.
π€―Screen to Derek Henryπ€―
This looks like Oklahoma using Ceedee Lamb this year. What's the play? IDK just get it to him and let him do his thing
The #1 defense cannot stop him. That was my key to a Patriot Victory, if they could stop Henry.
Cant imagine the pats losing at home to the titans, but they dont look like the normal playoff force were used to
McDaniels is dialing up some offense, even if it is depleted.
Getting real chippy out there
Tannehill going to lose the game for Tennessee. Henry will win it for them, Tannehill going to lose it for them

Derrick Henry is an absolute monster.
Does anyone actually believe Tom Brady will retire?
I think it's more likely he'll move on to wherever McDaniels gets a head coaching gig this offseason than retire outright.
By his choice or the Patriots? Pats don't have a QB in the wings so that doesn't seem likely at all to me.
It's not up to the Patriots though. He's a free agent.
Ok. So that would be by Brady's choice then.
Just seeing this but yes. There's been some reports he's not happy with how things are being run. Almost seems like he wants to be the de facto GM a la Lebron.

Derrick Henry's Senior Year High School Stats are insane!
Derrick Henry declared after his junior season. Also that's not his junior season game log.
Link
This is his high school stats. Not his stats from Alabama.
Thank you for editing the OP and clarifying
Real talk, I wonder how many high schoolers he put in the hospital.
4 games where he had over 400 yards of offense alone. Some offenses don't even get 300 yds a game.
That QB must have loved the PLay Action passes he could throw.
Hell if he remembered how to throw a ball
I love how pissed cheatin Patriots coaches were when Titans ran so much time off before that punt.
Why is Tom Brady dressed like an East Compton gangster in the post game?
...wait...it's confirmed. He's going to LA Rams with McDaniels.
Rams can't afford that
Chargers then?
While it is certainly awesome the Pat's are out the the cowboys never made it is hard to decide who to cheer for now. Guess more great games like Bill's texans

Thielen cant yell at Cousins about that
N'awlens in trouble.
Kirk Cousins' voice cracking during his cadence in a loud road game will never not be funny.

Holy shit! QB keeper with 40yr old McCown! LOL
Just tuned in. What happened to Wentz?
Dirty hit by Clowney gave him a concussion.
Clowney hit him helmet to helmet while Wentz was already on the ground. Concussed

That Tenn/Baltimore game may be the quickest one of the playoffs. Both teams run it quite a bit.
If Tenn can milk the clock they could possibly win the game. Best defense is running the ball and milking the clock.

Just checked the Ravens game score holy shit what is going on I expected a lopsided score but damn I mean what?
The Titans ran the ball down the Ravens throat and got a lead early. Engram got hurt and they had to start throwing the ball.
Titans go into Foxboro and win. Go into Baltimore and win. Tannehill making himself some money this season.
Still pulling for Andy Reid to get a ring finally
Tannehill is letting Henry put the team on the back, Henry has earned a massive pay day with this run
It was insane seeing Henry standing next to Mark Ingram in the postgame. Henry is a monster, and making this a really entertaining playoff run

Damn what is wrong with Andy Reid and coaching In the playoffs.
Pretty sure you can't put special teams forgetting how to block and catch on coaching.
But yeah he had the easiest path to the Super Bowl possible and it might not even be a game the entire second half.
Putting Tyreek Hill out there instead of your normal punt returner, who made the Pro Bowl as a return specialist is most definitely on the coach.
A true nightmare start for KC.
This keeps up, were going to have two Belicheck disciples in the AFC-CG.

You do not run that fake at the spot on the field up three possessions. Going for it on fourth and one to go up four possessions earlier would've been smarter.
Never seen a game with this many big special teams plays for both teams!
Well, this escalated quickly
I must be good luck for KC. It was 24-0 when I turned it on
Insane the amount of special teams errors there have been today!
So the lesson here is never kick a field goal when you're already up 21 on the road and then fake a punt in your own territory on the next possession.
Lol
Mahomes is incredible. Lamar will be a very deserving MVP winner, but if given the choice of any player to build a team around right now I'm taking Mahomes without any doubts.
hopefully the knee and ankle issues don't linger for Mahomes, because he's really something else when he's healthy. I have durability concerns about Lamar, but really it's just running QBs in general because it's difficult not to average 10-15 carries per game and then not break down earlier than if you didn't take all those hits.
That Jimmy Johnson live announcement had me tearing up hard. Then showing Troy tearing up had me really tearing up. Whew.
CBS did the same thing yesterday for Bill Cowher. His wife and daughter were even there to surprise him. Both were very cool
Buffalo lost, and we signed Teerlinck. JMU lost, and we're expecting Smith.
Who do we want from Seattle?
I know he didn't play this year, but maybe we can get Bam Bam Kam on the staff now
Nick Sorensen is their secondary coach.
These playoffs have been really good for the most part.
I've never seen a game like Texans/Chiefs before. A blowout becoming a blowout the other way is a strange sight
Especially as quickly as both parts of that equation happened...like, holy shit...
Nice to see KC remember how much offensive power they have.
Yes, KC has to get the lead early. If they do Tannehill throwing for 100 yards is not going to be enough, no matter what Henry does
For anyone out there who loves a good 28-3 joke check the box score of the texans, chiefs game and look at the box score for the 2nd quarter. Illuminati confirmed
?????????????????????????????????????????????
Chiefs score 28 in the 2nd Quarter, Texans scored 3. Atlanta Falcons blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl
Oh the actual box score tally! I kept looking for 28 yd td passes or a score at 3:28 or something idk
Not a part of the playoffs, but Luke Kuechly just retired at age 28
Big loss for the Panthers. Not terribly surprising given his concussion history
No more helmets π€·π»ββοΈ
I'm happy for him. His body and brain will thank him in 10 years

AFC Champion vs. NFC Champion at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, 6:30 p.m. ET (Fox)
For the Titans to win today, their defense has to play the best they have played all season. The Chiefs can score at will quickly. If the Titans get behind, I can't see them catching up.
Edit:
This matchup is really interesting me. It's new age football vs. traditional football.
I cannot wait to see the SF defense against the Chiefs offense and the 49ers rushing attack against the Chiefs defense.
Gonna be an awesome Superbowl it will be so much fun watching these two teams go at it
With the titans and Packers losing, I lost any interest this superbowl. I heard that there is a lot less interest in these two teams.
most interest would be Chiefs-Packers. I think Chiefs-Niners is a more interesting game than either Titan-Packers/Niners.
Mahomes is getting the biggest possible stage and every football fan should be excited about that
Mahomes is just the latest plug and play for Andy Reid. But I am happy for Andy.
You've gotta be kidding me if you think he's basically Alex smith
I'm really confused.
This is a bad take.
I agree it's bad but Mahomes looked honestly not great last night. Underthrowing guys not seeing open guys etc.
Last night was statistically one of his worst games as a pro. He was still clutch as hell down the stretch when it mattered though.
Williams still should have been the MVP.
After I posted this originally I stumbled across a PFF thread defending Mahomes as MVP, and in particular praised how important several of his scrambles were in terms of EPA (expected points added). It was an interesting read.
He's got the offseason to catch up on the partying he will be okay if I had to guess.
Any Hokies on the super bowl teams?
Kendall Fuller on the Chiefs is the last one.
Secondary reason for me to pull for the Chiefs to win. Primary is hating both NFC finalists.
We should keep a thread of Hokies playing in the NFL.
Forgot the /s there bud
Hokie with the final pick, LETS GO DBU #Fuller
Kendall ends it
I have a question for TheFifthFuller: do you foresee a family gathering where Kendall does NOT wave his ring under his brothers' noses?
Towards the end of the game, I think after the last TD, there was a shot of a bunch of Chiefs players celebrating on the sidelines. Kendall Fuller was in the background sitting on the bench by himself. He wasn't celebrating. He was focused. He knew the job wasn't done and he had to go out and make sure it was finished properly.
Good job Kendall. Hokies!
