Trying Something New(er): Help TKPC Reach 775 Members This Weekend

Hey all, The Key Players Club has had some really successful drives this year to expand its membership. We marched down the field on five different occasions with nary a jet sweep called (sorry) and stuck it in. TKPers joined TKPC and in the process provided some great content-for-all.

I didn't want to hold off on publishing stories on Hokies commitments Da'Wain Lofton, Malachi Thomas and Isi Etute until a new membership goal was reached. They were great interviews, with both players and their coaches, and I wanted to make them available for y'all to read about as soon as possible. And obviously an open-community makes features like AMAs popular and successful.

I hope you've enjoyed TKP's efforts to provide both content and community. As a small business, TKP depends on TKPC to make it happen.

Let's try something newer. Beyond membership perks, are we able to get five new members of TKPC over the weekend without any sort of other promises?

I'm interested to find out.

Something about perks.

That brings back some childhood feelings.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

Hi Joe,

Some feedback FWIW - i'm all about growing TKPC community, but not at the expense of content (that I'm already paying for) being held as hostage (at least, that's kind of how it comes off to me). I don't know of another route, so sorry I can't be more helpful, but here's my two cents on the topic.

Well this time he's not holding content hostage, at least.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Thanks for the feedback. That hasn't happened though. I mentioned above I did not want to do that. Hence why those articles were published when ready. Previous attempts were timed and coordinated well in advance. That's why there was such a tight window.

Not to mention that it's not really "held hostage" as much as it is "made available". It's gonna be published either way and could easily all be paywalled πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it's not really taking something away from the community as much as it is incentivizing the community

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but you're holding back releasing content even though I've already paid my dues right? Based on ppl needing to sign up first? I don't understand why my benefits (i.e. content I'm paying for) should be held up if a metric you want hasn't been met yet. That's like me ordering a pizza and dominos not delivering because not enough ppl have ordered yet.

Hasn't Joe previously done these sign ups with the motivation that articles will be pay walled unless we get memberships? Not that they won't be released. So if you're already TKPC then you get every article no matter what.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

The stories weren't written/edited at the time I mentioned them. I knew they were coming/planned and I worked with the writers to develop a timetable that would coordinate their completion with any sort of incentivized campaign.

I hope that makes sense.

What a savings

Kill me I'm here!

775? Let's get to 800! Go Hokies!

VT Football: It'll get after ya!

Proud Hokie since 2004.

That's the number to reach and maintain through 2020. It's going to be tough, but we'll see.

If you join the Key Players Club, I'll make more beer.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

That would go great with my beer opener I just got in the mail

Is 775 an anagram for 757? Is there another recruit coming if we get to that number???? /s...but not really

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

I agree. My hunch based on what I know is it doesn't hit 5 and there's more of a chance of 0 than 5. I'm interested to see how it pays out though!

Whelp, we already got 2 more, so we've avoided the goose egg!

I will drink a beer for everyone who signs up. This is coming from TKPC member ... 3? 2? I forget and I'm not sure if I can look it up.

Cheers 🍻

I got my awesome TKPC bottle opener today!! Thanks Joe, you're doing great work!
LET'S GO!!!

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

HOKIES!

Side note, I received a gift in the mail from the Hokie Club - it's a brass key painted maroon. The images show people shaking their keys at a game. TKP was light years ahead on this one.

I received the same, and said the same thing to myself. Kinda sad when you are years behind and the quality/design/function is an order of magnitude less.

Those people have a name!

I wonder if HokieClub would send me a high resolution version that I could blow up into a poster for my basement, in exchange for an extra donation πŸ€”.

Need three more...

My only regret is I have but one TKPC membership to give for my fandom...

There's nothing stopping you from making more than one user account and signing them all up for the TKPC.

Usernames would follow standard college thesis file naming rules:

Deuce Deuce '07
Deuce Deuce '07 draft
Deuce Deuce '07 FINAL draft v1
Deuce Deuce '07 FINAL FINAL unsigned draft

when you get out of school it becomes "re: fw: Deuce Deuce '07 FINAL FINAL unsigned draft"

"RE: FW: FW: Deuce Deuce '07 FINAL FINAL incomplete signed draft EM RA (Copy 1)"

My budget is one thing stopping me...

We didn't do the damn thing, but that's OK. Thanks to mspoth and phxhokie for running into that challenge head on.
