OT: SpaceX Launch Scheduled for 3:22pm on Saturday, May 30th

Update: Launch for May 27th scrubbed with 18 minutes left on the clock and has been rescheduled to Saturday.

As many of you may know, SpaceX is scheduled to take 2 astronauts to the International Space Station today, which will mark the first US launch to transport passengers into space since the last Space Shuttle mission in 2011.

Fawking sweet man. Elon may be crazy but he sure helps design some cool toys

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

KCCO

Godspeed SpaceX

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I'm hoping for a go for launch, as I'm 89 miles by car from the space center currently, and you can typically see the rocket from the house. But the weather is not looking very promising for this afternoon.

That is a job for the peons.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I pick up garbage every single time I'm on the water, while doing my job, which ironically isn't garbage collection. This peon would appreciate it if Elon would clean up after himself, as I ask of all humans.

It was a joke. I pick up all the tourists shit they leave behind every time I'm at the beach (multiple times a week), not too far from where the debris washed up in your article . People are pathetic.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Probably easier to collect it when it washes up than to search the entire ocean for rocket debris.

On balance, I'd say Elon is doing his part to clean up the planet.

Elon is the only one who cleans up after himself in the rocket business. No other company even tries to recover their boosters or fairings at this time (though everyone else is now attempting to follow SpaceX's lead).

Glad to hear it

Just came over the comm.... Current weather is moving offshore and the system that is expected to be overhead at launch is expected to break up between Orlando and Canaveral

I could not imagine sitting in that position doing not a whole lot of moving for almost 4 hours.

A lot of time to think about being the first persons to do something as well. The good and the bad.

Nap time.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I'm sure these guys are pros and could possible nap (like Hicks on the drop ship in Aliens) but there is NO WAY I would be able to take a nap if I was one of these guys right now.

Sleeping on the job is actually based in reality. Gordon Cooper fell asleep in his Faith 7 capsule during countdown prior to launch of what would end up being the last launch of the Mercury program. Funny sequence in The Right Stuff regarding it.

hrm, take a nap and wake up ready for some intense concentration or sit there and let my adrenaline rage when literally all I can do is wait.

Hopefully they didn't have Chipolte for dinner last night.

They would be long over that if it was last night...

lol if that is EDP, having watched his videos, I'd say he fits with the other 3, especially on the bottom row with the Joker

That's why these people have the right stuff.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

They just retracted the gangway.... Starting to get real!

Been watching for about two hours now. I'm so ready.

Hype meters off the charts

Saw an article about them getting loaded up...they had to "air hug" their wives and kids due to social distancing protocol.....I could not imagine getting ready to get strapped to a rocket and shot into outer space and not even be able to hug my fam

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

They hugged their family weeks ago.

Even worse would be to contract the coronavirus the day you're blasted into space on the way to the international space station because your kid played basketball with his friends last week.

Actually, the families quarantined with them; they all stayed at the beach house together. The air hug was because of "clean room"-esque protocol after they put their suits on.

That wasn't coronavirus-specific distancing protocol. They always do that before launches.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Might be scrubbed. Last communication said they're probably not going to get clearance today. Only 18 mins left til launch

every day during the summer, 3 pm thunderstorms.

They need to do this in the morning.

Launch windows are dictated by orbital mechanics, unfortunately.

It's not summer until June 20th. Also the latest three days were our first measurable rain in NE Florida in at least a week and a half.

Bummer - scrapped due to weather

It's an unwritten law that it's my lunch pail. I've issued the challenge. If someone outworks me, they can get it.

Next attempt is Saturday at 3:22 PM ET.

ahhh yes, during my birthday... was going to hang with the gf all day... now she'll get to experience 2 rockets in one day.... lucky girl.

My bet is that SpaceX is going to last longer.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

On one of my dog sledding and winter camping trips there were these 2 older guys. They were straight out of Grumpy Old Men. Old navy buddies constantly ragging on each other. You have to pack out your solid waste. One day one of them comes into camp with one of the brown paper lunch bags we would have to pick up our material in. Gives it to one of the guides for packing on the sled. The guy's comment was:

"At my age, that's better than sex. And it lasts longer."

Elon had a great quote about this launch yesterday:

"I'm the chief engineer of this thing, so I'd like to say that that if it goes right, it's credit to the SpaceX-NASA team. If it goes wrong, it's my fault"

Refreshingly simple. I think he is a bit of an abrasive guy, which I am sure he would be the first to admit. But its no surprise why people follow his vision and leadership.

Yes, this time it will be different, unlike the last time something failed and he screamed at everyone and fired some people.

People don't follow his leadership, they follow his money. Same way everyone does at Amazon and did at Microsoft and Apple.

I really wish they would launch at night so I could see it from the house here, but during the day I highly doubt it.

Warning- Filter lost.

STICK IT IN HAS RETURNED!!!

I have pics of several night shuttle launches. One night from a cessna flying under the flight restrictions on the west side of the indian river in titusville, under a full moon. Awesome!

Oh man, that would be so cool!!! I saw one of them from here a few months back that was right at sunrise time. It was beautiful. I'll have to find the picture I took with my phone.

I was born in WPB and lived there until we moved to VA when was 8. I remember going to see the launches almost everytime they had one because my dad isn't one to miss an event like that. Kind of thinking I may do the same with the kids tomorrow, although it looks like they may have a better weather window for Sunday.

Ditto on the Cessna, but daylight. Was always a race to get off the ground at Merritt Island Airport and outside the zone before the restriction kicked in, but you couldn't beat the views.

saw a night launch and a day launch (to me, the sound is amazing)...and a landing

Snoopy! Yes, the astronaut they were interviewing on TV had his plush Snoopy that went up into space with him. Invoke the power of Snoopy for a successful launch! Man, shame that he is not on the rocket itself. Would have increased the odds of success even more.

Whoo hoo! Snoopy wins again.

Awesome event to watch. Had hoped to see it fly by but a 15 minute rain shower where I'm located blocked our view. Still very cool. Glad to have something positive to focus on in the news these days.

Awesome, congratulations SpaceX!

That was smooth. Loved every second

That was amazing IM SO READY TO GO NOW LETS GOOOOO

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Solid. Congrats to SpaceX and the NASA Commercial Crew Program.

We watched the new chapter in space exploration unfold today. It was humbling to watch.

Man that thing took off with zero drama, like a very well oiled machine.
I couldn't believe the speeds they were showing, really cool.

Gotta go pretty fast if you don't want to fall back to Earth.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

So many kilometers per hour, which translates tk slightly less miles per hour.

I just love the metric system.

Listened to the launch out on the course today. Went off without even an inkling of a hitch.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.
