Hokie Hoops Statistical Notes Volume XIII

CMYBall is making a habit out of this COVID knocks one game off out of your 4 and your replacement is an upset win. First Villanova, then Duke, now LOLUVA have been . The Hokies made it through this tough portion of their schedule going 3 and 1 against Wake, BC, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and UVA. I had predicted going 3-1, with the loss to Syracuse, but while my eyewear is orange and maroon, I didn't expect to take UVA out behind the woodshed. Without further ado: Data

Scoring
As a team, the Hokies put up 259 points over this foursome, 42 below their average four game window. Aluma led all scorers with 50, followed by Cattoor (45) and Alleyne (43). Recently suspended G/F Radford was next on the list with 30, followed by Mutts (29), and true Fr big man N'Guessan (24).

Rebounding
For the first time, I believe in the existence of CMYBall, Radford doesn't end up in the top 4 on the boards. The Hokies pulled down 126 boards, led again, by double-double machine Aluma (37). Rounding out the top 5 were Mutts (30), Alleyne (19), and Bede (12).

Assists
Aluma and Bede led the Hokies with 10 assists, each. Bede led everybody with a 2:1 ATO margin. As a team, the Hokies were getting a 1.18:1 ATO margin, for their 2nd best 4 game stretch on the season.

Experience/Depth
The loss of Radford is clearly felt here, as the solid 7 man rotation has definitely taken a hit. Prior to this 4 game window, only 10 times did a Hokie eclipse 100 minutes played over the 4 game set. Five had 100+ this go-round. Leading the Hokies was Mutts with 126, followed by Alleyne and Aluma with 122, each. Cattoor (110) and Bede (102) rounded out the major minute players, although Cone was close with 87.

Next Four
The Hokies have a chance to solidify that all-elusive double-bye in the ACC tournament over the next four games. First is a road trip to Pittsburgh, currently 4-4 in conference, having dropped 3 straight to Wake, UNC, and Notre Dame (I know that game isn't over yet, but I'm calling it). They ran Syracuse out of the building, but we saw what happened the last time we played somebody who did that. However, Pitt happens, especially in Pitt.

Next up will be a long trip down to Miami, who sits at 2-9 and I expect them to be 2-10 when they play us. They did beat Louisville, but they also BC's lone win .

Then we come back to Cassell for Florida State, a team that Great Sequoia National Park would be at a height disadvantage. We are 2-0 against top 15 teams, which is nice.

Finally, the Hokies wrap up this set against Louisville, the game where the Hokies were 1" from winning on the road.

Prediction
I expect wins against Miami and Pitt (oddly enough, the road games), while FSU and Louisville are tossups to me.
I have a good track record of saying we're going to go 3-1, so I'm going to say we lose the FSU game, to go 3-1 in this tetralogy, bringing their overall record to 16-4 and 10-3 in conference, and in the driver's seat for the double bye.
