Panthers extend kicker Joey Slye through 2021

Love to see Hokies see success in the NFL. Joey definitely deserves this.

Quite a season for our guy Slye...missed 3 game-winning FG attempts of 54 yards or longer, got the Rona and signs another 1 year deal.

3 potential game winning field goals of 54 yards or more? So you are saying that CornFu are calling the plays and coaching the Panthers as well?

To me it says something about the confidence they have in him to even put him in that situation. I remember at least one of the games it would have been some sort of record, and he just barely missed it.

For the problems that the Panthers had this year, Slye wasn't really one of them. Good to see him stay.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Now if we can just get him some reasonable field goals.

Joey gonna try a 70 yarder for them next year

Mr. Slye I have a Whit Babcock for you on line 2.

Not a bad gig!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

If they had cut him he would have been unemployed for 5secs. They're quite a few teams that wish they had a kicker half as reliable....

One of these days he's gonna hit one of these 85 yard field goals we throw him out there for, just you wait...

Go from the Panthers asking him to hit 70 yarders to releasing him. Smh. He'll get a chance elsewhere, but would've loved for him to work out in Carolina.

His accuracy has been problematic. Panthers had no choice but to let him go. He's got a big leg, but can't be trusted to make routine kicks.

Sounds familiar tbh

Agreed he did way better with the Panthers than I expected. He obviously has the yips, but he's definitely resembled how he was with the Hokies. Great leg, suspect accuracy.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

I was surprised to see he was in the NFL. I remember him missing a lot of easy ones at tech from like 35 yards. I used to call him Slye to the right because he would miss them to the right. He was really good at kick offs and sending them out of the end zone and celebrating like he just won a natty though lol.
