VT Launches JumpStart, a Student-Athlete Name, Image, and Likeness Program

Virginia Tech launches a new program on the first day of face-to-face recruiting.

From VT's release:

Through an enhanced partnership with INFLCR, VT Athletics is launching JumpStart, an immersive name, image, and likeness program which will empower current Hokie student-athletes with the knowledge and resources to build their personal brands, seek out business opportunities, and write their future while living in their present. Hokie student-athletes will have the tools, tips, and training to maximize their individual benefits.
...
Branding opportunities for Hokie student-athletes will be supported and bolstered through incredible national partnerships with media entities including ESPN, ABC, and the ACC Network. Additionally, over 250,000 living alumni create a multitude of opportunities for business ventures within the Hokie community across the world.
...
JumpStart will enable Hokie student-athletes to measure, evaluate, and analyze data related to their own brand. Moreover, they will continue to access videos, photos, and graphics provided by Virginia Tech's Brand Advancement department to communicate their story and success through their own social media channels, as has been the case for the last few years.

Thanks for sharing. Really happy to see the athletic dept being proactive instead of reactive for once, especially on this topic.

I honestly believe that NIL will help level the playing field in college athletics (especially revenue sports), and it's going to be very advantageous for us to get a well planned program in early. I'm excited for the future of VT Athletics - that's something that I haven't said in at least 2 years.

Sooooo wheres my copy of NCAA 22?

My biggest question remains without NCAA rules, federal rules or state of Virginia rules how far behind will Tech be left by places like Florida that have already passed their NIL law.

No farther behind than we already are, pretty much every DIV I school in that state is a better program than what we are currently fielding and that will likely not be changing anytime soon.

While there are certainly struggles I don't see how you can say Tech is behind USF, FAU, FIU in football. Or behind the dozens of Florida colleges in basketball.

NIL is Name, Image, and Likeness for those of you also casually following along.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

I think I agree with this new model, but I'm still a little wary. But if everyone else is starting a program like this, then I'm really glad we are too. If it's going to happen, then we might as well be keeping up with the big dogs.

Hopefully they advance the students' brand better than they did ours....

I hate that logo, I can't believe we paid some one in Ohio for that shit.

We take our "This is Home" slogan very seriously /s

You know I expected that stupid thing to grow on me but I have actually only increased my dislike for it. I have put apparel back on the rack that I liked and was prepared to buy, but the damn academic logo was on it. All of the academic apparel has been ruined by a stupid, useless, logo re-design.
