OT: REQUEST- STAR WARS CROWDSOURCING HELP

I normally do an annual write up on the College Football Landscape called the Big Eleventy. I haven't been doing a real good job of updating the format in a while.

I was actually already thinking about using a Star Wars theme, and then suddenly the SEC decided to expand, and in retaliation, the Big Ten, ACC and Pac 12 formed an alliance. So Star Wars it is.

Unfortunately, the Wookopedia is less visual and graphic, and apparently there are more Star Wars characters than Stars in a Galaxy Far, Far away.

So for those already more versed in the Star Wars canon than myself, I'm looking for both graphical and thematic inspiration for some logo/mascot mashups.

I made this for a little initial inspiration:

And I found a list of logos/symbols that I had started brainstorming with.

So Star Wars fans out there, please let me know what ideas for logos and mascots you come up with.

UPDATE: So Far I have this-

Virginia tech is obviously Obiwan kenobi
Frank beamer is yoda
Nick saban is the emperor
Rich rod is jar jar binks
Change that all florida teams are gungans
Fuente is anakin for reasons well know "you were the chosen one"
big ten can be kashyyk and the wookies
pac 12 can be the mon cala people as the west coast/sea world mix would work
Admiral tarken can be kirby smart and georgia
I'll keep adding as I think of more

If VT is Obi One, the 1999 season must have been Episode IV. That explains a lot.

Wait, I like this. If we're going VT as Obiwan, we can make Miami Qui Gon. That means ACC Expansion was the Trade Federation negotiations at the beginning of Episode 1

This is my school
This is home

I think these work well- Obi Wan to the Hokie Bird, and Sebastian the Ibis is just a quick edit or two from having his arms in a lightsaber pose.

With this theme in mind, Florida State was also ACC expansion. Clemson was the only original member of the conference that finally did something.

I figured the FSU Seminole looks kinda like the blind dude from Rogue One. But does that work with the overall ACC theme?

could make FSU be masked/blindfolded Kanan Jarrus

Nah FSU would be Mace Windu

Badass at the time. Mercilessly slaughtered for absolutely no reason

Speaking from a graphical match standpoint. However more I think about it the more it's clearly Hunter from Bad Batch

Miami has to be Jar Jar

To be the man you gotta beat the man!

Sometime the universe just makes sense.

This. All the this.

That does not work at all because Jar Jar was never good

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

I'd rather see him prominently in every prequel, than see Episodes VII-IX ever again.

VT '10--US Citizen; (804) Virginian By Birth; (210) Texan By the Grace of God.

Rick Monday... You Made a Great Play...

I also root for: The Keydets, TexAggies, NY Giants, NY Rangers, and Braves.

I am assuming you have seen the fan theories that Jar Jar is actually the most powerful sith of all time?

Shhhhhh we wouldnt want him to be elightened to the true sith lord. Who do you think cloned the emperor all those years ago

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Loluva should be Jar Jar Binks.

UVa has to make the Big Eleventy first

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Notre Dame has to be Bendu -- technically independent (and annoyingly so), but will try to yeet both sides indiscriminately. more thematic than really being a graphical mashup.

There is neat Loth cat graffiti in Rebels (overlaid with the Rebels phoenix) that could be some inspiration for a Good-aligned cat team -- Clemson? the colors fit too

Other than that, perhaps some inspiration from the various mandalorian clans/factions such as the mudhorn or the nite owls, along with crimson dawn logo

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

I definitely have to work the little angry Shane Beamer lookin' dude into the Notre Dame team logo, but definitely looking for someone independent.

For Clemson, I'd like to use an actual character. While the cracked out kitty should work well, I could even do a Padma Ami-Dabo crossover or something.

Entire AAC is Boba Fett. Because yeah, they want to be one thing, but we all know that's the SHIELD logo ripped off from another franchise (Big East)

also i'm just gonna leave this here

Winner right here

Okay, USC should be the Mandalorian. The strong ties to armor, military, etc fits well.

For Auburn, I would try a Nexu from the Geonosis Colluseum, see below:

Florida you could try the Colo Claw Fish from Naboo:

As for the dogs? Big, strong, slobbery, scary? Rancor it is.

I hate to dunk on Oregon, but the mascot is remarkably similar to Jar-Jar with the mouth structure.

You could always throw the Good Guy stuff with Clemson being Obiwan Kenobi, being the only hope, only to be struck down by Georgia, Darth Vader, and the hope of the alliance falls to Oregon, Luke Skywalker with a green light saber, Penn State, Princess Leia in all white, flying on the Hawkeye, the Falcon, by two long time business partners, Han Solo as Ohio State and Michigan (or even better, Cinci) as the loveable but goofy Chewbacca.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

Oregon Jar-Jar is brilliant.

As for the rest of these characters, these are guys I never would have looked at or even realized existed. Thank you!

VT is Ezra Bridger. A character we want to see succeed, has frustrating moments, randomly seems to pull things out, but ultimately...

Florida -

I almost wonder if Jabba doesn't look more like a bulldog?

There are a lot of chins on both

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Wisconsin has to the be Ewoks

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

I completely missed Bucky as an Ewok, but that works.

Michigan could be Chewy.

If Ohio State is Nien Numb, that makes the Big Ten either

a) all of the Star Wars/Empire/Return of the Jedi characters. or

b) non-human characters

Who could we use for Penn State?

As a Star Wars fanatic I love the idea, but looking at your example it is going to get messy quickly if you are using ships and characters as equals. To scope down for yourself I suggest using characters only, there are a plethora of them for you to choose from, I would probably scope down further to ignore the books and only consider the "Canon" of the movies and TV shows and maybe the video games.

This scope includes the 9 main movies + Solo and Rouge One. The main TV shows: Clone Wars + Bad Batch, Rebels, and The Mandalorian. If you include Video Games then The Force Unleashed Series, Jedi Knight Series, Fallen Order would be good places to pull from. In fact the list of characters from the Galaxy of Heroes might be a good place for you to start (180+ Characters for you to choose from).

There are so many different conflicts throughout the stories that you could pull into it.
In the big picture you have same large conflicts:
In the Prequels you have:
Separatists vs Galactic Republic
In the OG + Rouge One you have:
Galactic Empire vs Rebel Alliance
In the Sequels you have:
The First Order (And Sith Empire) vs. The New Republic (and Resistance)

But there are so many small conflicts that can be highlighted as well.

So as I think about conferences you could attack it a few different ways:

If you want the SEC as the Dark Side that kind of limits the options for everything else. If you want to play off the Sith then the rule of 2 comes into play. I don't know how close to the Canon you want the comparisons to be.

IMO you want a mix of Dark and Light affiliated schools in each conference.
I think the Technical Schools could be the Droids
Up and Coming Conference has a bunch of First Order Characters
A old beaten conference that was once on top could have Imperial Remnant Characters

I have to get back to work but the only thing I know for sure is that Boise State must be Thrawn

I had to look up Thrawn- he's definitely an ideal graphical match. But I would like to keep Boise Independent.

In fact, my first instinct for Boise was Lieutenant Worf. Since the G5 and cfb relevance are practically seperate universes themselves!

Graphical match and "neutral" is definitely Cad Bane. Will eff you up if you're not careful, and definitely watches out for himself first.

edit to add the image

Oooh, yep much better fit than Thrawn. Kudos.

For LSU swap out Darth Maul for Savage Opress.

yeah kicked everyone's butts for a hot minute and then died lmao

but also the colors

Had no idea this dude existed, but he's perfect!

Edit: That kind of opens up Darth Maul as the Texas Longhorn, too

Georgia... LOL

Looks a heck of a lot like a bulldog!

I was thinking about using that Mandalorian symbol as a "Texas Longhorn", but that's not really a bad guy, so that stinks.

Nardouche can be Kylo since hes just a whiny bitch.

Mace windu is J ham no doubt

Luke and leia can be west virginia cause well ya know why

Trying to think of a good one for the pikes family

Rex would def be bud foster

Clone force 99 has to be a team thats lethal but unorthodox

kaminoans could be bama

Trade federation is big 12 or 10 or whatever they are now

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I'm not sure how many characters I was going to use, but definitely a Saban Emperor or Queen Ami-Dabo or Princess Day-a (Ohio State coach) could work.

The Trade Federation is a pretty cool thought, but the description that pops up on Wookiepedia states that the Federation is strong. The Big 12 is kinda the opposite- they're more like a late-stage Big East right now.

Penn State is the imperial remnant under Gallius Rax. Undisciplined and sycophantic. Get for some reason everybody kisses their ass and thinks they're a bunch of geniuses.

Also don't let them around kids.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

I was going to try and theme the Big Ten as either non-human or original episodes (4, 5, 6), but they're an expansion team, so it probably doesn't even matter.

Something about this mascot image leads me to think that this could work

EDIT: Damn, he's a bad guy, isn't he? Well, I mean if we're being technical, Penn State could always be this fella:

UVA

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

GT

Lincoln Riley being welcomed to the SEC?

UPDATED LIST AT TOP

that scene should be with Sandusky at Penn St.

Notre Dame is the Hapes Consortium?

My big takeaway from this so far is that brockman needs to watch the clone wars and rebels

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

I was a huge fan of the original trilogy; didn't again get interested until the latest trilogy and spinoffs were released. (We've been watching the Mandalorian, too).

Only recently went back and trudged through the Anakin and Jar-Jar clunkers.

Didn't even realize that they had been making Star Wars this entire time, so there's a bit of a gap in there.

Can't recommend the clone wars enough... The final four episodes is imo the best star wars content we've gotten so far

Mandalore could be Florida state, old ways long gone and now a shadow of their old warrior self?

Edit: Actually change that out to death watch, constantly fighting to be back and selling their souls to the dark side to try but failing in the end. Maybe Viszlas mandalorian helmet with the spikes could be a symbol?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

If I had to pick a football team when I see this picture, it would be FSU.

The problems with Mandalorians is that they are pretty much independent, where FSU are the good guys (B1G PACC alliance).

The most iconic FSU logos are of the Seminole face (they do have that spear on their helmet, the death watch and mandalorians are more into guns).

Although, help me out with a Mandalorian for Notre Dame. I think the stance of the Fighting Irishman is iconic enough without the face.

Notre Dame made their name offering to play anyone, anywhere until they got famous. The Mandalorian represents an ethnicity of "Fighters", yes?

Yeah mandalorians could be notre dame that would work. Their montra is this is the way and you could spin that for them probably.

If you want primitive fighters for FSU Ewoks could do it being tribal and fighting with spears and technically good guys? If not maybe a dothomir witch or the dothomir men, once great warriors who lost their power when the witches were hunted down by dookoo

Another primitive fighter is the sand people on tattooine as well theyre kinda like a seminole in a sense.

Right now it looks like we can get a little theme going with the Alliance and Dark side conferences:

B1G TEN: Non-human characters:
- MICHIGAN - Chewy (old cartoon Wolverine Logo)
- OHIO STATE - Nien Numb (looks like Brutus)
- WISCONSIN - Wicket (Bucky Badger)
- PENN STATE - ??? (Anything that could be grafted over the oval Nittany Lion)

ACC: Human Characters:
- VIRGINIA TECH - Obi-Wan Kenobi (modified Hokie Bird)
- MIAMI - Qui-Gon Jinn (Sebastian the Ibis is wearing a loose, cape-like shirt is close to striking lightsaber pose)
- FLORIDA STATE - Chirrut Imwe (with glassy eyes "open", would be dead ringer as both self and Seminole logo)
- CLEMSON - ??? The Tiger is heavily conflicted (He has giant yellow eyes indicative of sickness or drug problem)

PAC TWELVE: Forgettable, far away assholes???
- OREGON - Jar-Jar Binks (Similar facial features to a Duck)
- USC - ??? Any good guys wearing flair helmets? Or do we go with a female character and match her hair up with the Trojan helmet?

BYSTANDERS (Big 12, Independent and Group of 5):
- NOTRE DAME - Something in the Mandalorian theme (Mando, Bobba Fett, etc...)
- OKLAHOMA STATE - Does Lando Calrissian work? He could graft right onto the Cowboy logo.
- TCU - ??? Any animal characters that could work as the Horned frog?
- BOISE STATE - Could be a Star Trek character for what it's worth- having sustained success as a G5 team kind of puts them in the wrong damn universe.

For the SEC (Bad Guys), I've kind of got a rough draft started:

ALABAMA - AT-AT (older block "A" logo has an elephant stepping through it; kinda looks like AT-AT)
AUBURN - Kylo Ren (a cartoon Aubie with a Kylo Ren head works kinda well, actually)
FLORIDA - the Sarlacc (old circle UF Logo works with a Sarlacc "U" top and tatooine visuals on the bottom "F")
GEORGIA - Jabba the Hut (looks kind of like a bulldog)
LSU - Savage Opress (not sure if doing the old tiger logo or the newer eye logo, but face matches perfectly)
OKLAHOMA - the Sith (Dark Sith Lord wheels, Sith Empire wagon opening, and Sith logo banner)
TEXAS - General Grievous (profile looks sort of like a set of Bevo horns)

- PENN STATE - ??? (Anything that could be grafted over the oval Nittany Lion)

- USC - ??? Any good guys wearing flair helmets? Or do we go with a female character and match her hair up with the Trojan helmet?

Sabine rings a bell

- TCU - ??? Any animal characters that could work as the Horned frog?

this guy could work

I'll think on clemson thats tricky

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

TCU horned frog sounds like a Trandoshan like Bossk or a Rodian like Greedo to me. Trandoshans appeared live action in Mando as well

Ok St is either Han Solo or Lando, or Hondo Ohnaka -- a space pirate! kinda works from Bystander idea.

USC trojan -- if youre looking for female with the hair as the headpiece, could be Rey

I'm still convinced Boise St has to be Cad Bane, but Worf would crack me up too
