I was just looking at a few mock draft boards for the 2016 NFL Draft, and many of them have Kendall listed in the second round. I'm sure this is due to his injury this year, but it begs the question: any chance he comes back to try to improve that draft stock? I imagine that if he is healthy for the combine, his stock will improve if he performs well. I'm not sure on his timetable for return. Any thoughts?

It sort of depends on where he is in the current draft lineup. If he's second round, it makes sense to stay another year. He can improve his pay by a lot.

Drop to 2nd round is purely speculative at this point. If he is fully healthy at the combine, he's back in the top 15 probably.
Will he be fully healthy at the combine though? I still think he would be 1st round anyway though. He was highly touted in high school, he lived up to the hype at VT, and he has a pedigree. GMs will talk themselves into it by draft day.
I had a non tear meniscus injury that didn't require surgery and it lingered around for awhile. However, I also didn't have division one athletic medical treatment. I would imagine he would be healthy for the combine (and may not need to be for a 1st round selection, he met and exceeded lofty expectations right out of the gate) but someone who is more familiar with the injury could probably weigh in for us.
If he made up his mind already that he isn't coming back, he is likely seeking treatment and rehabilitation outside of the Hokie circles. Exum had NFL dollars at stake and went to James Andrews for his ACL repair.

He'd have to declare for the draft in order to go to the combine though. And as a junior, the combine is probably the wrong place to try to improve your stock.
There is a chance but it's very slim. Kendall is the top 2 CB in the 2016 draft. A good showing at the combine would confirm that.
All I have to say is for every player that decides to come back there are more situations like Anthony Poindexter than Andrew Luck..

I couldn't believe he came back. Has the size and just came off putting up huge numbers in 3 of the most high stakes games he will ever see in his career. The way GMs drool over QBs he would have been a second rounder, he had already won a B1G and NC, JT Barrett nipping at his heels if struggles at all, the only way he could go was down IMO.
After playing so few games and how good the QB class was last year he wasn't a first rounder.
He did say second rounder, which probably would have happened. And after his year this year, I'd be surprised at him going higher than 4th, if even that
I can understand and support his decision either way. As a Hokie fan I would love to see him on the field one more year opposite a healthy Facyson (assuming he stays as well). With all of the youth and talent we could have in the secondary next year, that part of the team could be the best in the nation. Kendall seems like a very intelligent young man with a very grounded family and background. He will consider all angles of this decision, take his time, and make the right choice in the end.
Whatever his choice, I wish him nothing but the best of luck.
If he would be healthy for the combine then I see him going. If he can't show for the combine and have to do a Pro Day at VT for coaches there is a chance. Either way thank you Kendall and thank you Fuller family! Can't wait for your kids to fill out all the defense in 20 years!
Barring another injury he will be full go for the combine. A meniscus tear is a pretty minor injury.

I agree. I had a small meniscus tear repaired via arthroscopic surgery ten years ago or so, and after a couple of months, I was good to go, and I was 55 at the time. Now, I'm starting to suffer from arthritis in that knee, possibly exacerbated by the injury/surgery, but he's a young man and should be completely recovered by the time he needs to strut his stuff. Still, sure would love to see him just one more year.
I would contend that the term "minor" is also context-dependent. A normal person, walking around, etc. can recover from a meniscus tear with physical therapy or surgery, depending on the extent of damage. For a D-I athlete whose position requires high-speed running, quick movements, and pivoting on the damaged knee, I would not consider a meniscus tear "minor."
Can't argue with your point. Context does enter into it. For the finely tuned athlete, I would think there were few if any "minor" injuries.
On the flip side, injuries are a cost of doing business for a football player.
They are expected to - and do - play with "minor" injuries that many of us would see as fairly debilitating and the perfect opportunity for extended couch therapy - and maybe, perhaps, wishfully garner some sympathy from family and spouses...
My daughter played soccer, tore her acl and lateral meniscus and medial meniscus. The lateral meniscus injury was by far the most severe. It all depends on the type of injury.
Take it with a mine of salt, but I have heard from people close to Kendall that staying next year is a discussion among his family. He has gotten a lot of pressure to stay and finish his degree like his older brothers and he does love VT football. That said, I think he realizes he is a big boy and will make his own decision based on what he believes is best for him. I'm guessing he is waiting to hear what the analysts estimate him at before submitting his paperwork. This is very 4th hand. This is mostly speculative based on a couple things I have heard in passing so don't quote me.

I have completely accepted and am at peace with KF leaving this year. As a result if he by some miracle decided to stay I wouldn't be relieved so much as I would be surprised and overjoyed.

Kendall is a smart young man, he's gone to a solid high school, he's stayed out of trouble in college and has good guidance from his family. I'm sure he's going to do what's best in his interest and I wish him the best of luck.

The VT football unofficial draft advice policy is/has always been clear - if NFL paperwork projects that a player will go in the top 3 rounds of the draft, then it is in the player's best interest to declare for the draft. We saw this with Jayron, DW, MV7, Worilds, and plenty of other players. Unless Kendall really, really, really loves college life, he has no business staying at VT.
I guess it depends on if staying another year might put him in a different round of the draft.
Or maybe, dare I say it, he likes playing in college and at VT and wouldn't mind another crack at it with the new regime?

From a financial perspective, he should go pro regardless of where he is projected. With the CBA instituted a few years ago, the rookie salaries were dramatically reduced and there is virtually no ability to negotiate. The 1st round deals are all 4 year deals, and the difference between being a mid 1st rounder and late first rounder is not very much ($10.7M vs $7.6M for the full 4-year contract, an annual difference of ~$750k/year). That is a lot of money to you or me- but in the current NFL CBA, it's ALL about getting to your 5th year option and second contract. To illustrate my point, look at the projected earnings for a CB taken at the end of the 1st round in 2014 and mid-1st round in 2015.

I thought the deals below first round were considerably less attractive. Lock in and less ability to negotiate pay incentives.
Since he is injured, I wonder if he has given any thought to trying to circumvent the draft process. That way he could sign a 1 year deal and have more ability to negotiate with teams where he had a shot at playing early or playing for a winner. No idea. Just seems absurd how some of these FAs get their 1 year deals end up better off than the guys who get drafted and locked into 4 year deals.
And then a bunch of you yahoos will complain about them trying to get out of the CBA deals. Wankers.
If he's not fully healthy by the deadline to declare for the draft, I'd say it's probably a little better than 50/50 that he stays around another year. I think the injury concerns may make some NFL teams leery of investing a high round draft pick on him. It's not like he's in a Michael Vick situation, where he has to get that payday immediately to lift his family out of poverty, or has a child to provide for like Darren Evans. I hear that his parents are pretty adamant about getting a degree, and that could sway his decision. An extra year of getting healthy and learning under Torrian Gray can only help his draft stock (barring futher injuries).
If he's 100% healthy and ready to go before decision time arrives, I think it's highly unlikely that he stays. A good combine performance and a clean bill of health should push him back up into the mid-first round of the Draft, which is an awfully hard opportunity to pass up.
He hasn't pulled a Miles Jack and withdrawn, correct? Certainly an argument for optimism. I may be mistaken, but he has been on the sideline at games, correct?
If he's a lock for a first or second round pick... it'll be hard to turn down. I cannot fault him at all and appreciate everything Kendall and his family has done for VT Football!

There are a few other CBs with first-round grades that aren't injured. If Kendall got healthy and came back with a strong year next year, he'd probably be the top corner in the draft.
I think his best bet is probably to go, but given the market for top end corners in this draft and his injury status, I could very well see him coming back. I think he has a decision to make, and could see good things on both sides.
Here's hoping he's staying, though.
Secondary is a dire need in Silver and Black and since we look to be picking in the early-middle of the first round I think those colors would look good on him...

Saw a mock draft yesterday that put KF as the last pick in the 3rd round. If that's the case, we may have a better shot at him returning for his senior year than we thought.

worst I have seen is early-middle second and that wasn't even a super reputable draft source. All of these are purely speculation at this point. If he performs on Pro-Day and the Combine he will be solidly back in top 15, top 20 at worst.
I went through a mock draft and there were 4-5 corners listed in the first round (I think it was the first round).
Kendall wasn't one of them.
Good class for corners, he missed all year, Mama Fuller wants him to graduate, all good signs he comes back next year.
