Jahque Alleyne No Longer On Team

No longer on the team, but is currently still in school. I guess we can use this thread for any other attrition in the next few days as well.

That stinks. Really thought he had a chance to break the two-deep by his junior year.

I recall hearing a lot of good things about him as well. I was a little surprised by this.

So, if a players leaves the team, he loses his scholarship, right? That kind of sucks for him financially if he stays in school. kind of a one-two punch to his dreams: first, you probably aren't making it to the next level if you stop playing college ball and, second, now you have student loans to pay off that you probably didn't plan on having!

Not necessarily. If it's injury, he can stay in school and get his school paid for but not count against our 85-scholarship limit.

Then again, he's getting a 4 year degree w/ only having to pay for 2 years.

That might explain why I've heard rumors about Deablo being asked to play Safety. Still think that move makes no sense, but from #sauces he'll have the choice to play S or WR.

Interesting, Safety is a pretty common second position for WR's, but I recall Deablo impressing a lot with his outside blocking during the preseason last year. I figured he'd see the field this year a good bit at receiver.

Interesting, I thought he could fill in Bucky's role nicely

Interesting. Seems strange since he didn't redshirt and burned a year of eligibility at WR, now would have to learn an entirely new position. I thought he would be a major contributor and WR next year.

In the words of Cris Carter last week on The Herd: "DBs are just WRs with terrible hands and no ball skills. No one grows up wanting to be a DB." Humerous but true. I would find this switch very puzzling, due to our obvious lack of depth/experience at wideout, especially considering how highly touted Deablo is.

Spoken like someone who's never played defense. DB is exponentially more fun and requires a much keener football mind to play effectively.

This isn't real football in pads, but I always preferred playing DB during pickup on the drillfield. There's something satisfying about covering a guy so well that he becomes angry from not touching the ball for most of the game.

I agree with both of you, just thought that was an interesting quote in this situation. I have always preferred playing defense to offense as well, less pressure if you screw up and more fun to hit people than being hit.

Nothing like dropping into a soft zone knowing its an out route to your side. Drop the hammer or step in front for the pick 6.

Always more fun to be the hitter than the hittee.

If you play it, they will win.

I don't know about that, I used to play WR and CB, always liked CB a lot better. Getting a good pick, or laying the smack down on the receiver was always more fun to me than catching and running, or catching and getting smacked down.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Lol because this was definitely me, crappy wr (which was what I wanted to play) but pretty decent db back in the day...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

#sauces say there is not much of a choice. They want to get him on the field, but receiver is not a place where he was getting better or even looking to contribute.

This is how the numbers work out...

Best of luck Jahque

I'd hate to lose any player, but especially a talented kid from Ocean Lakes. We need some 757 kids to shine in the next couple years.

Ocean Lakes is falling off a bit due to their coach going to Bishop Sullivan, who is the new big time school in the 757.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

The numbers always work out.

Disappointing, as recall he played on special teams as a true freshman and seemed to be one of the top freshman that year. Best of luck.

That is correct. I had high hopes for him after the small glimpses and Foster's praise of him his freshman year.
I recall him being out the first few games this season, I don't recall if it was due to injury or suspension?
Either way, best of luck to him and thanks for all the hard work.

He was suspended at some point if I recall.

Good luck to the young man. Attrition is always going to be there considering that we are looking at a roster of nearly 100 guys in total. I believe Bitter said we lost about 7 scholarship guys to attrition alone and factor in the early draftees means we have some scholarship spots available.

Now, how the coaches work that out is another issue but at least a scholarship opens up for someone else. You never know when you get a committ or if a walk-on guy gets a shot when he proves himself...so lets hope for the best for the team and also for the young man to continue his education and earn a degree.

Am I misinterpreting this correctly as a "You probably aren't cutting it as a starter" moment and both parties get what they want out of it?

Yeah I think this is mutual best interest situation. Opens up a scholarship for us, gives him an opportunity to get on the field elsewhere and continue his education. I think he just wanted to clarify that he didn't "quit football" altogether, as some early reports implied.

Gotta be honest here. I kinda like hearing that a player leaving the team is staying enrolled at VT. College football is a HUGE commitment for a 20-year-old, and it's not for everyone. Get the degree, Jahque!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Read up one.
