OT: ACC Football Outside of Tech

We are getting into the time of year where alot of coaches are on the move now that signing day has come and gone so I figured having a good location for small stories that didnt really warrant their own posts would be good.

Also a good place for the dumb stuff #goacc staff does if it isnt completely newsbreaking.

To start out with, NC State is losing their defensive line coach to the New Orleans Saints in the same capacity. Have to think thats a big loss for the Wolfpack with how well that unit played for them last season.

Sark is leaving Bama to take on the same position for the Atlanta Falcons. ...falling up

edit: I'm sorry, i overlooked the "ACC" portion of your thread. Didn't mean to hijack it.

It's like he's drawn to teams that get oh-so-close before choking in big games.

Apparently Saban is looking at Chip Kelly, and Mark Herlfrich

What's
Important
Now

I want Chip Kelly at Alabama because I think that just won't work and it'll stop that dynasty.

I wouldn't be too sure about that

Oooof... yeah, THAT offense with Saban talent and defense... smh.

The only reason teams beat Bama now is because the defense gets worn down by up-tempo spread offenses and mobile QBs.

A personality conflict is the only thing I can think of to jam up that machine.

SiriusXM host that works w/ Rick Neuhiesel speculated that Neuhiesel would be interested in the Bama gig. Was just him spit balling possible people interested.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.

Interesting... so Bama goes from 2 offensive coordinators to none, in just over a month. It'll be interesting to see who they pull in this late in the game, as well as how far the ripples travel.

Obligatory Torrian to DC comment.

Funny story about this...

I heard the news that Torrian was headed to the Redskins from one of my Florida friends. When I said I was surprised, my UF friend said "Why? He's a lifetime position coach, no point in staying at the college level." Thought that was interesting given that the VT fanbase seemed to think Torrian was poised for a Coordinator position (or at least CBF's replacement). My UF buddy said if he was going to be promoted to a coordinator, he wouldn't have spent over 15 years as a position coach. He raises a good point.

There is something to be said when you have two great bosses and live in a low cost of living area in the country on staying at the same job, especially when you are extremely well compensated. I think Torrian knew that Beamer was close to leaving and there was always the possibility Bud wouldnt have been kept, so he saw it as a good time to see where else he could go. If he is successful as the DB coach at the NFL level, there is a good chance he could turn that back around into a DC job at a lower Div 1 school and then from there onto a higher D1 school, etc. You have to also take into account, he is only 42, about to be 43, so in terms of coaching, he has another 20 years or more to potentially move up the ranks now that he has started taking the opportunities when they come. Foster is 59, Beamer was 68 when he retired.

Lorenzo award went from VT to Oakland and then became d coordinator for Spurior at South Carolina. So there is a path.

His temperament is not good for a higher leadership position. Just my personal opinion from my experience with him. He was a very immature when he first joined the team. He could have grown into a more mature coach, but when I was around him I couldn't see it.

10 years is a lot of time for maturation. Especially when your bosses are Bud Foster and Frank Beamer.

Same could be said about Foster and HC right? He's been 30 years as DC. If he was going to become an HC, he wouldn't have just stuck around at DC for so long.

Not that i'm complaining, mind you lol.

Will Swinney is a great kid, and a good athlete, but he is very small.

Between him and Will Brown from Boiling Springs, looks like they're trying to keep the Renfrow magic alive with walk-ons.

I still prefer "our" walk-on magic. Fully-Dipped!
