With our baseball team dropping two of three games to the wahoos and our women's golf team finishing 11 of 12 in the ACC tournament (and no, LOLUVa was not 12th), the clash stands at 9-9 with the following events remaining:
Men's golf
Women's lacrosse
Men's outdoor track and field
Women's outdoor track and field
Given that we've never scored more than 7, I guess this is already a win, but I'd love to see us pull ahead this year.
FULL DISCLOSURE: normally I think the commonwealth clash is crap and is only a thing because they realized that football is no longer competitive. AND, we could lose 21-1 as long as that one win was football and I'd still be ok with that. But, it is the off season and I'm grasping at something to get excited about with regard to sports/competition.

It kills me that in our series with LOLUVa this weekend, we lost by one run in each of the first two games, even forcing extra innings in the second. They take a lot of pride in their baseball team and I wanted to sweep them again.
Took my kids out for today's first hole for the Ladies Golf ACC tournament. The ladies were great with the kids, golf coach was great and even met one of the associate AD's. The player's. And the coach even took time to talk to me and two of my kids, ask them about themselves, talk to them about Hokies, VT and just golf. Whit made a great hire with Coach Robertson. Young team hopefully win more time and more recruits they step up in the ACC.
Weaver actually made the hire. She was hired July 2013 from ODU.
Fun fact: In a tournament in Orlando, she carded two hole-in-ones on the front 9.
Ah, I guess she was hired year before team started actually competing. Knew she came from ODU, got a chance to talk to her husband.
Also a fun fact: her brother was a standout Hokie and qualified for the Greenbrier Classic a few years ago. The Green's are quite the family of golfers from the town of Tazewell.
gotta say. never knew theiir was a clash we were keeping a running tally on every year. i like the idea, but never heard of it
thanks for the update
They had the commonwealth challenge that started up in...2005? At least back then there was an expectation that football might go either way. They ended it after the shootings. The "clash" started up two years ago and we've only posted 7 points each year.
Only in something like this would tennis be worth the same as football.
Personally I think points should be alotted by number of fans in attendance at each event. So if you win the football game, you get a point for every fan in the stadium. When they win varsity douchebaggery, they get a point for every person in the tasting room.
The Clash was created so that UVA might actually win something against Tech. The Commonwealth Cup hasn't been seen in Charlottesville other than 1 day every other year for over a decade. Basketball we have started splitting, and baseball (even with this years setback) isn't a sure thing. LOLUVA has to rely on their lacrosse teams to bring back any accolades at this point.
They can't get any points in Men's Lacrosse, and now our Women's Lacrosse team is one ranking behind UVAs (16 and 15, respectively). Lacrosse is not a sure thing anymore either.
shoot, I was hoping the game was at home instead of hooville - we would have had a massive crowd there on Saturday.
There is a joke about about a replica trophy sitting here for someone, but I seem to have consumed too much wild turkey to put it together.
Meh, we won football, what else matters?
Every other sport according to Uva fans when you're specifically talking about football... Apparently.
We lost the men's golf point (trailed LOLUVa by 19 strokes).
Oof, our ladies lacrosse team dropped a close one at LOLUVa, 5-6. I really thought we would get this one and tie it up at 10. Oh well.
That brings the tally to 11-9, bad guys. Best we can hope for is a 11-11 tie and that's if both our men's and women's track and field teams place better in the ACC championships (May 12th-14th).
EDIT: so, it turns out that the tie breaker is outright ACC championships for each school. We currently have two (wrestling and men's indoor track) and LOLUVa has zero that count (they won field hockey, but since we don't have a team, it is excluded from consideration). In the event of a 11-11 tie, we actually win the clash so there's still hope. YAY technicalities!
I would love us to win the tiebreaker because I know that it was chosen under the belief that UVA would always have the most ACC championships. If you did not notice, the website almost always links to LeSabre articles for game recaps. It is definitely run by UVA alums.
Somebody voluntarily links to LeSabre?
And not just to make fun of them?
FYI: the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships take place from May 12-14. Right now, in men's outdoor track UVA is ranked #9 and VT is ranked #25. Neither team is ranked in women's outdoor track.
We won both points for men and women in the Indoor championships, so even though there are a number of differences between Indoor and Outdoor track I feel like we have a decent shot at it.
Men's: I guess someone needs to go all Tanya Harding on some of their runners (kidding, totally not condoning violence, even on wahoos)
Women's: from what I've read, we aren't gonna win the ACC here, but we should have enough points to beat out LOLUVa.
With half the events scored, our ladies are effing killing it. Unfortunately the wahoo men are also leaving everyone in the dust.
Update: with four events left the men are down by one point, women still leading by three!
Women Win the ACC championship just edging out FSU
Congrats Hokies!!
...why is that a gif?
So since the good guys won both what's that mean for the clash?
Will end up tied after this site is updated.
Link here.
Tiebreaker is number of outright championships...which we win.
We win
Hahahahahaha
Gasp
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA
Says the guy who had to listen to "one trick pony" taunts ever since we joined this conference. This is freaking awesome.
Haha lesabre is predictably salty. "They changed the rules to favor tek!" "We would have won if they played more sports (field hockey and men's lacrosse)"
Never mind the fact that the commonwealth clash (previously known as "challenge") was only created because no one could get excited about the commonwealth cup because it was a given that it was never leaving blacksburg. So basically, a competition expressly created to give LOLUVa bragging rights fails to do so after three years and therefore it's inherently biased towards Tech.

Wow, VT T&F has become BA.
There's more than a few future Olympians in the ACC. Sweeping both of the ACC team titles is really impressive.
2 ACC Titles
IT'S A CELEBRATION BITCHES
Don't worry, UVA fans, just wait til football season. Err, no, that's not right. Well ... this is awkward. What do you wait for now?
