"He was playing behind a guy who's played a lot of reps and been there the whole time," Newsome said. "You kind of play to that mindset: I'm his backup.
"And now it's his opportunity. I think he realizes that completely. I think he's approaching it that way. And we just need to be demanding and make sure we get his best effort, because no one in that room has more tools than Vince has."
Newsome said he has seen a transformation in Painter this offseason. The senior approached the winter lifting program with his usual vigor but has carried that over to the field.
"I think overall he's been a pleasant surprise," Newsome said. "Vinston is much more confident as a football player than he was."
What do you guys think, yay or nay, Painter has the breakout season we've all been waiting for?

It blew my mind when I realized he was a R-Sr last week. A huge recruit that left the hoos gnashing their teeth when he picked VT, I felt like he'd would have been starting when was a R-So. He's obviously got the physical tools, I always figured it was his mental approach that was keeping him off the field.
Newsome's quote above makes sense about his mindset being an entrenched back up. So if his confidence is growing and he's figuring out all the little things and putting forth complete effort then I think Logan's gonna be in good hands.
