OT: Foul Play: Paid in Mississippi

Steven Godfrey (cohost of Podcast Ain't Played Nobody, SB Nation writer who wrote The Bagman piece) has spent 5 years investigating how college athletes/recruits are paid under the table. He's been teasing this project for at least 6 months. The trailer is finally here:

Looks good, can't wait.

The series will premiere on Monday, May 30, and all four episodes will be available at once.

Can't see the link from work. Where will all four episodes be available? Same site? Or is it a Netflix or Amazon thing?

The title makes it sound like a documentary about a prostitute that was murdered in a Mississippi trailer park.

So you thought it was about Hugh Freeze too? Phew, I thought I was the only one.

STOP IT! IT HURTS!

Well done, sir.

Anyone else's audio and video get off sync around the 9-minute mark?

I've been using airplay to stream from my phone to Apple TV. No issues with audio.

I just opened the video on two separate tabs. One for video (muted) and one for just the audio. Pretty easy to sync up.

just jog the video back a couple seconds and it re-syncs.

Can't wait to watch. The bag man piece is such an eye-opening write up of what straight-laced programs are up against these days. I'm not saying there are programs that do everything 100% right, but there are varying degrees of this stuff, just really puts it all into perspective.

Every school is somewhere short of 'clean' on the spectru, even the service academies over the years.

Its all just a question of who wins out between what school and team leadership can tolerate or overlook, and desire to win for job security, monetary gain, prestige, and fan satisfaction, doubly so in the new ever more tootheless NCAA.

One would be very hard pressed to find successful programs who havent decided that looking the other way when they can for a slightly better team.

Certainly not Tech, though we like in so many other ways just never really have matched what other programs and the big boys have set up. And Ole Miss is a great example of how it can go to shit(but even then lets be honest they havent been hurt too bad) if you try to build a more all encompassing committed to winning over just about everything too fast and trust a coach who cant even buy a burner phone to run it.

"I wanted to stomp a mudhole in his ass."

Not a good look for Hugh Freeze.

I just watched the first episode. I'd call it "must watch" for college football fans. I'm interested to see where they're headed with it. Certainly a conversation starter related to backroom money in college sports.

Episode 2 (paraphrased): The rules are, a bunch of schools offer you some money, you pick one, and you tell everyone else the others "sorry". Leo Lewis was taking money left and right. He originally committed to Alabama, he committed to Ole Miss, I talked to him a little at BIG DAWG CAMP, and he said he was going to explore all his options...

"Explore all his options..."
Make me wonder if there is a translator handbook for high level recruits.

I think I found the translator:

Just finished all 4 episodes. The series doesn't break any new story or confirm anything that wasn't already public knowledge, but it connects the dots between the Laremy Tunsil draft day debacle, the Leo Lewis story, and the Hugh Freeze firing, and shows how all three contributed to Ole Miss's collapse.

I do not know about this. Laremy Tunsil draft day debacle

NVM I got it. The bong mask and twitter feed payment stuff.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

What's amazing to me is that they only got a two year bowl ban out of all of that and a few lost scholarships.

And they complained about that.

This material is GREAT. Immediately made me think of this:
