More $100 members doesn't do shit for our current predicament. Drive for 25 is really just an effort to lure in someone who might contribute big dollars. At 100, each, those 25k are barely scratching the surface of what we need. Sure you can keep posting for us to join up and contribute our paltry amount, but unless we find a few more Wes Worshams, we aren't getting there.
Don't let this dissuade you from these posts; they aren't without merit. But your regular joes, at $100 a pop, aren't going to bridge the gap.
Actually studies show that over time few members stay at their entrance amount. They either up it yearly, leave altogether or make large increases every so many years.
Although, I would imagine the big time donors aren't starting at entry level donations. They come in big and stay big.
No, but mst donor money isn't from a few large donors at most schools.
I couldn't come in big, but I have no intention of staying at bronze my whole life. Getting young alumni in the door is what's most important for sustained growth.
Agreed. I would think that the younger the potential donor, the more difficult it is to get them to commit though. Once they are able to settle their student debt and get that consist income they will be able to start using their disposable income.
Yet they can immediately afford necessities like Starbucks coffee, smart phones, and cable TV.
People can afford their priorities, whatever they might be.
Becoming a donor just isn't that expensive. It's $8.50 a month.
I doubt they are really looking for 8.50 donations much.
But more power to them if thats their priority. It at least buys them the right to complain about the stste of the program haha.
Because the majority of donors would be like meh let me do 10 a month a nice round number. Then after a year they see they could maybe do 15 or twenty and jna. Few years they are doing a 100 a month or more and it's paying bills at Tech.
Once people are in the club and being exposed to what VT athletes are up to, the idea is that maybe they'll contribute more, keep up with the program, maybe buy a hat and a t-shirt and attend or tune into games.
As far as the $100/yr (less than $8.50/month) goes, every little bit helps, and it's a LOT better than $0/yr.
13,000 members, but 250,000 alumni means there's a lot of room for growth.
Our fan base doesn't exactly act like normal fan bases. If these studies are based on our members, I'd say the numbers went up because people were forced to give more to keep their sporting tickets.
I say this as someone who isn't really in a position to give a whole lot. My family has all been contributing to one Hokie Club membership to keep tickets we've had since the mid-eighties. Not that we got to keep those original tickets. As low level donors we got the shuffle and have been stuck moving ever since.
This data also includes Hokie Club, it's who I got the information from.
More context: The SEC paid out $40.9 million per team. The B1G paid slightly less, but they're expected to pay out closer to $50 million next year.
Delaying the ACC network was the worst possible decision the ACC could've made for its teams. This discrepancy is one of the biggest reasons we can't compete with teams from those conferences for recruits. Imagine the support staff we could hire with an extra $10 million dollars per year from a TV deal. I get heartburn every time this comes up.
and how much will we really see when ESPN looks worse every year? It's hard to have a stream that doesn't break 2 minutes into watching. How many people will hold their cable package just to watch ACC network?
And this is why we want Miami, FSU, ND and Clemson to be legit. $$ talks. Let 'em be big boys, and let's beat the big boys.

What is this? Is it all revenues from all sources? Does this include NCAA basketball tournament revenues?

This really stuck out to me:
The tax document reported Swofford's total compensation as $3.3 million. That's second only to the Pac-12's Larry Scott ($4.8 million) among Power Five commissioners...
Moreover, the ACC, without a network in 2017-18, figures to trail its peers again in next year's reporting cycle.
So the ACC is dead last in revenue with little hope of making up ground in the foreseeable future and our Commissioner is the 2nd highest paid one out there?
They should pay him commensurate with ACC revenues relative to other conferences.
I'm sure a good chunk of it is longevity. He is over 20 years as ACC commissioner.
But the pay took a massive jump at all P5 conferences a few years ago where they were all. Asking less than a million to these numbers. But no school or conference will talk about it.
