FBS coaches and commissioners favorite musical act.

https://watchstadium.com/news/college-football-coaches-commissioners-nam...

Commissioner John Swofford – Oliver
Steve Addazio, Boston College – James Taylor
Dabo Swinney, Clemson – Garth Brooks
David Cutcliffe, Duke – John Mellencamp
Willie Taggart, Florida State – Tupac
Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech – Stick Figure
Scott Satterfield, Louisville – Eric Church
Manny Diaz, Miami – U2
Mack Brown, North Carolina – Eric Church
Dave Doeren, NC State – Merle Haggard
Pat Narduzzi, Pitt – AC/DC
Dino Babers, Syracuse – James Brown
Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia – Jack Johnson
Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech – Dave Matthews Band
Dave Clawson, Wake Forest – Talking Heads

Yes Fuente likes Dave Matthews, but honestly they aren't an awful group and for awhile in the 90's they did shows in Blacksburg and were popular musician group so people around my age to his listened to them a lot. I'm surprised of the number of times Eric Church appears on this list.
Which coaches are picking acts to appear "down with the kids"?

Fuente picks a band originated in Charlottesville

FUENTE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND VIRGINIA TECH CULTURE /S

I would say they are appearing to be "down with the kids", though this is coming from someone who heard Dave Matthews Band as a name (don't think I heard any songs) and never heard of the rest who's 27.

Edit: I am mistaken because my eyes read faster than my mind comprehends. I listened to AC/DC and heard of Tupac and U2 (including DMB), but the rest never heard of.

"Oi! What's a Horkie"
"I am ya Grot!"

Taggart thinks Tupac is still alive

This isn't getting enough votes!

Man.... This would be perfect in a Hatin' On Thread....

2 time Longwood grad married to a Hokie.

Taggart thinks FSU is still alive.

Well, to be honest, I'm very much a country/rock person and I love DMB. Seen them several times live. Can't fault Fuente here.

uva - the taint of the ACC
Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

Someone downvoted you for this opinion. The anti-Dave crowd might be more passionate about their hate for DMB than DMB fans are about their love for DMB.

I'm with you and Coach Fuente, by the way. Dave concerts are the shit.

Thanks. Leg back for leveling it all out

I am not a fan of DMB......but can agree 100 percent their concerts are the shit

Eric Church went to Appalachian State (Satterfield's old team) but reps UNC.

Sort of how the students at CNU all seem to wear UVA gear.

Satterfield is also an App State Alum.

Seth Littrell, North Texas – Jerry Jeff Walker

Seems appropriate, and unlikely to be repeated on the list.

Holy shit Bronco's and Cutcliffe's are exactly what i'd imagine them to be. Bronco just jamming out to Banana Pancakes and Cutcliffe to Pink Houses before every game sounds right.

Gobble Till You Wobble

I had to google Oliver and Stick Figure.

John Swofford now confuses me more than he did before.

same... is that supposed to refer to William Oliver Swofford?

Yes, it's his brother

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah... he should probably clarify that one. Because the google results are for a DJ duo.

I mean it's fairly obscure because his brother was a one hit wonder back in the 70s and died around 2000.

Which, when you think about it, is incredibly sweet and sad at the same time

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Narduzzi does strike me as an AC/DC fucker

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Particularly after we shake him all night long.

Stick Figure is the "I'm too cool for Cali Reggae to listen to Slightly Stoopid, and Stick Figure is way better" group, even though they both sound the same.

They played my Chillin Music Fest in Tampa in 2015 and killed it with O.A.R., Expendables, Ballyhoo!, Taco and d Mofros and 15 others... they were great!!! Www.chillinfestival.com for pics and videos... 5,000 strong..

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Seeing this made me painfully aware that to answer this question in a casual conversation with someone I don't know I'd either have to lie or make myself look like a complete weirdo.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Found the Culture Club fan.

Or Judybats

Wow......deep pull.

Have a leg for the deep pull.

Same for me. Pretty much since high school.

Or you could go the Doc Holliday route...

(doesn't have a favorite musical act)

As an avid DMB fan, it might be my favorite thing about Fuente.

Also, Dave Clawson is the shit. I'm sure the Talking Heads thing doesn't resonate with recruits (and probably neither does DMB ), but I dig it. Speaking in Tongues is an all timer.

I would root for the Russians before I would root for Virginia.

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I needed this chart in my life

Les Miles - 21 Savage...

Can't spell DBU without Bud

genius recruiting move /s

Gotta throw it all out when you are trying to recruit at Kansas I guess. I think kids see thru the BS when you are over the top in trying to do that.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

Narduzzi and Diaz have the worst musical tastes of all the ACC coaches, by far

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

What is wrong with AC/DC and U2? I used to listen to both in the 80's and 90's.

They're both god awful, at least you quit in the 90s

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I wouldn't say they're awful, just overrated.

A merely overrated band has never made me feel the urge to plunge screwdrivers into my ears and punch a kitten.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

HUZZAH!

What a duo.

Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia – Jack Johnson

I'm sorry but manny diaz likes U2 WTF

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

His iPhone probably automatically submitted that answer for him

Walt bell from umass is now my favorite coach. Sorry Fuente

I loved it when all the TSwift fans on twitter went nuts when Tool knocked her off the top spot this year.

It was a thing of beauty 😃

Mike Leach with Neil Young. I can't tell if I could have predicted this, or if this is the most out of nowhere answer. Somewhere, somebody has smoked pot with Mike Leach. They need to tell their story.

A conversation between Mike Leach and Mel Brooks would be truly fascinating

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I thought that was the most surprising answer on the list. Well besides I can't see James Franklin actually listening to Jay-Z.

2026 Season Challenge: TBD
Previous Challenges: Star Wars (2019), Marvel (2020), Batman (2021), Wrasslin' (2022)

Ed Orgeron, LSU – Creedence Clearwater Revival

"Wouldn't hold out too much hope for the tape deck" "Or the Creedence"

Least surprising response on the entire list. I love coach O

Dave Matthews Band?

Ima call Whit, this should have been explored during the vetting process.

Shawn Elliott, Georgia State – Metallica

It's a sign. Ladies and gentlemen, your next head football coach.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

With all the Zac Brown band and DMB I'm surprised there is only 1 Jimmy Buffett, either way their are a lot of coaches that probably wont pass a drug test, I'm looking at you Jim Harbaugh.

Doc Holliday is, in fact, not fun at parties.

Marshall University graduate.
Virginia Tech fanatic.
Formerly known as JWillHokieAlum.

I read that and thought, "yup, that's doc." He's a strange fellow.

Neal Brown knows his audience.

Mike Gundy picking Prince is a shocker to me.

YEA, OK. Anything to connect with recruits.

Kinda sad that the asshole in Pitt is the only one with decent taste in music. And the Dude could not abide Saban...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

YEEWWWWWW!!!!
