Last spot was UCLA. Had heard he was looking for a spot with an open competition. So, I'm a bit surprised here.

VT >>> UK.
Apparently not much excitement about this either. Backup punter, backup qb, meh.
I, for one, will choose to be happy about this news.
We had two scholarship QB's on the roster lmao
Frank Beamer isn't coaching any more, last I heard.
Hopefully this isn't a prelude to giving the Drones/LSU rumor legs
Well the portal is closed so we'd know by end of day if that's true since I think it's the last day for schools to finish filling paper work.
I think we just added a really good depth player that doesn't block Pop. My guess is he couldn't find a place to start figured he'd be close to home and back up a QB that took a lot of blows last year.
It was down to UK and VT. From what I read, I think he would have been in a situation similar to the 2023 Drones/Wells situation if he went to UK. The other QBs on the roster are not a running threat like him, although it seems that the new offensive coordinator likes to run the QB a bit (500+ yards for QBs rushing last year at Boise State).
That is all to say, I think VT's offense is already set up for him to have success (albeit as a backup) and the UK offense is a work in progress and it's unclear if he would ascend to be the starter or have an offense that suits his skills.
It would be a good interview question on his process to come to VT. Maybe he's getting a good bag for a year. Maybe he likes the idea of not taking hits every down but learning a new offense because he wants to move to GA position in future. It's an interesting decision.

Interesting indeed, maybe the offense is looking so good we are expecting the backups to play many second halves?
Only have 3 scholarship QBs and 1 isn't even on campus yet we needed depth there this season
I think this is a great pickup. We now have an experienced backup QB who can slot into our offense and emulate much of what Drones brings if there is an injury.
I like Pop Watson, but I feel much better with someone who has started multiple college football games back there.
yeah... I'd rather not have another 2020 Hooker/Burmeister/Kadum situation ever again
The Kadum start was definitely a low point. That was some bad offense.
Amazing add.
Getting backup QBs in the portal with 1 year of eligibility as a complete insurance policy is awesome news. Speaks to our improvements as a program.
This will not stunt pop's growth at all. He is an athletic backup that will play only if necessary.
Some interesting things about Schlee:
