Virginia Tech men's basketball head coach Mike Young announced updates to his staff Friday, as assistant coach Christian Webster and recruiting coordinator Blake Wetherington will not return for the 2025-26 season.
"We are grateful for Christian and Blake's dedication and hard work during their time in Blacksburg," Young said. "Christian has been a valuable part of our program for nearly a decade, and Blake made an immediate impact in his time with us. Both have bright futures ahead, and we wish them nothing but the best.
"As we move forward, we are evaluating every aspect of our program to position Virginia Tech men's basketball for long-term success. These changes reflect our commitment to that vision and present new opportunities for us to evolve with the current landscape of college athletics."
Webster was initially hired by former Tech head coach Buzz Williams in 2016 and wrapped up his ninth season with the Hokies in 2024-25. Wetherington joined Young's staff last July.
Will be interesting to see how this all changes going forward. Is it going to be a direct 1-1 replacement, or are we going to grow the staff? And given the reputation we have right now in seriously underfunding basketball, who would even be interested right now?

I hope we get the funding to actually provide CMY with a full staff. watching Drake make it to the second round with 4 DII players kept making me wonder what CMY could do with enough resources to be on the same level as an average P5 program.
Mid majors are no secret- get old, win your league. That is a good model for VT, but you can't get old anymore. Creighton has managed to do that in the Big East, which is impressive. They were much better than Louisville's mercenaries yesterday
Drake only has two players that were at Drake last season and they were 9th and 10th in scoring for them. Three Seniors and three Juniors comprised the core this season that all came from somewhere else. I believe three or four were JUCO transfers.
