Bring on the youth movement. I don't think we can have too many backs or QBs (obviously). But the RB position has so many question marks with injuries that we don't know if anyone of those guys will even be 100% back to where they were pre-injury.
I don't want to see anyone get their feeling hurt, but this is D1 football, let the best man win.

I disagree about no such thing as too many QB's. I don't want to see VT become a program that is a revolving door of QB's leaving. 1 a year for the most part with 2 every so often seems like a good idea.

Definitely want 1 per year at minimum. QB is the one position where you want to be overstocked. Look at OSU last year. They didn't skip a beat on their 3rd string QB and won the championship. You need that population to have the best of the best locked and loaded. Unfortunately that means that some QBs will end up transferring or leaving the program.
I am very impressed with our current status with offensive recruiting. When Lefty, AMO and Grimes were hired we had 1 viable QB, a ragtag group of RB and a dumpster fire on OL/TE. Now look at where we are at.
QB: Brewer, Motley, Ford, Durkin, Lawson
RB: J.C. Coleman, Trey Edmunds, Joel Caleb, Shai McKenzie, Marshawn Williams, Jerome Wright, Travon McMillian, D.J. Reid and now McClease
OL: all of these guys
What about a coach that tells two kids, "You'll both get an honest shot to win the starting job." You don't have to be duplicitous to sign multiple QBs in a class.

Agreed. As was reported last off season Durkin was told he would have a shot at early playing time as well. He didn't end up playing and we went with Brewer. But I am fairly certain he got his shot. And if you saw the signing day broadcast Lefty was making it clear that he will play the best man for the job, no matter who it is or what year they are. Those are good things to hear for a QB, honest and fair, but it still might mean some attrition will happen.

Yeah I'm almost 100% certain he was first on the depth chart coming out of spring but then had. back issues that took him out of the running. Just saying he definitely got his shot, and had the back stayed healthy, who knows.

I think Loeffler has said, though, that ideally he could sign 1 QB in every class..that keeps the cupboard stocked but also gives guys at least a year or two to develop and then a year or two to start....I think the last couple of years of recruiting (bringing in Ford, Durkin, and Brewer in one year, for instance) are not going to be the norm...we were just so devastatingly short on QBs that we went after #alltheQBs to try stocking that cupboard....No matter what, I think our recruiting, offensively at least, has improved 10-fold...I just hope it translates on the field..

I dont think you will see that here. Transfers are going to happen no matter what, better to stock up on QB's and have the best play (resulting in a possible transfer) than having to play a QB by default.

The expectation is a much higher number. Some say 10 to 12 players.
I counted 19 yesterday that it would make sense if they transferred. It won't be that many, but I believe we are oversigned by 11 at this point (assuming Charley Meyer is on scholarship, which I'm not sure if he is). That counts any potential greyshirts (Hoyt) and any potential prep school candidates from this most recent class.

The difference is staggeringly beautiful.
I'll never understand a coach that can tell two kids/QB's a year they are the future at that position. What team needs 8-10 QB's?
I think 5 - 6 is the desired number for QB, if I am not mistaken.

Wasn't Durkin the one who was coming on strong in spring but then had back issues?
not sure, I think there was something with health issues but didn't he light up the scout team as well?

Motley had the back issues, Durkin got there in the summer and wasn't as up to speed as the others were.
Damn it anyway. Leg for the correction sir.
We have enough QBs to get them confused!!! Yay progress!
true

Cunningham also at TE.
+1 thanks, edited
We've come a long way from 2012-13 where I frequently found myself saying, "We just don't have the horses to win."
I dont think you will see that here. Transfers are going to happen no matter what, better to stock up on QB's and have the best play (resulting in a possible transfer) than having to play a QB by default.
Any news or info of any players transferring? It may be a little early for that.
I'm waiting on thar also. Can think of two positions we might lose one player.

I was looking at just RB and WR.
There are a ton of players at both positions. I wouldn't be surprised to see two of both transfer.
