Ray Minor moves to Whip, Dadi Injured: Media Day Notes

Alex Koma, Kevin Weiss, and Mark Umansky are on site providing coverage of media day. For those of you who don't have twitter and are not following them, here are some of the stories that are coming out that they will be providing more detail on later.

1) Per Bud Foster, Ray Minor is getting work at whip. He is a talented guy, but with depth being an issue at whip and mike, it makes sense getting Minor somewhere that he can contribute versus competing with Clarke (who will be on the field every snap), McKinnon, and Moss (all of whom are very good.) Bud also said the youngest Edmunds will contribute this year, especially on special teams. He is the first freshman that I have heard a coach say is avoiding a redshirt from this class.

2) As I predicted often during the summer and into fall camp, Chris Durkin is impressing the coaching staff, and Lawson (who gained 30 pounds since enrolling for summer classes) is, not surprisingly, having freshman moments...

3) There are lots of little injuries that will keep players from scrimmaging. None sound serious. Dadi has a cast on his left pinky. Dooley will miss today with a shoulder. There will be lots of work for Gaines, Fullwood, and Jeremy Haynes at DE. Running back has three guys being held out- Edmunds (ankle), Shai (knee), and McLease (shoulder.) Shane Beamer said all could play if it was game day. That means extra work for Steven Peoples and Coleman Fox at tailback.

4) Adonis Alexander has moved to rover and Bud is very high on him. It sounds like he may be one of those diamonds in the rough that VT has a track record of finding in recruiting cycles that makes a class good.

Desmond Frye is still the starter, but...

Alex, Kevin, and Mark will be publishing more stories and photos from media day, while Mason will be attending today's scrimmage. IT IS HAPPENING!

We could potentially see all 3 Edmunds Bros play during one game.

And 30lbs gained by Lawson is incredible

I think Trey is out.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Wait... I only know of two, am I missing something?

Trey, Terrell (rover/free safety), and Tremaine (backer)

Terrell Edmunds. Hate to be negative on a player, but the other two are looking a lot better right now.

Look at the linebacker and running back position and who Trey and Tremaine have to compete with for pt vs who Terrell has to compete with, as a freshman he had Fuller, Facyson, Clark, Jarrett, and Bonner all ahead of him and then Reavis was in his class. It was probably best that we redshirted him last year being that Frye, Greene, and Riley were the top backups. I think Terrell will be fine honestly.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Well see! I hope he can contribute along with everyone else. It just doesn't sound good that he wasn't really in the conversation for nickel even though its mostly true freshmen there.

I think he and Lawson are swapping pounds! Still can't get over that Lawson has gained 30 pounds!

Sounds like Alex Koma is getting pretty tight with the the D-Backs, throwin down the Homies tag!

Definitely a result of the awesome TKP DBU shirts

I like Minor's move to whip. He can run and may never develop a true linebacker body (his Dad is a very small guy)

RVD, Shegog, and Minor all seem like really solid players, I hope we see them quite a bit this year!
