His father fell in New Orleans prior to the game and it required surgery to fix his hip. Unfortunately his father passed away from complications. Tough week for Smart with the game delay due to the truck incident and having to worry about his father. Sometimes football takes a back seat.
The saddest part is it appears he fell the day the game was supposed to be played so who knows if he would even have been where he was if the game wasn't delayed.
Brent Pry said Bud Foster will be a part of the program going forward, but he will not be the defensive coordinator. Said it'll be a number of days a week he helps out. #Hokiesโ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) January 2, 2025
I'm going to guess this is more than just an advisory role. Never a bad thing to get a mind like his more involved with the program again. Hopefully we'll get some clarity soon on who the new DC will be.

Virginia Tech has a long history of brothers playing with each other and moments ago, they added another brother duo to the fold in Blacksburg with the transfer commitment of Wingate cornerback Joseph Reddish, the older brother of safety Quentin Reddish.
The older Reddish entered the transfer portal on December 3 after posting four interceptions, 11 pass break ups, 33 tackles, one sack, and blocking one field goal.
Virginia Tech has hired former West Virginia Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach Matt Moore as team's next Offensive Line Coach.
Moore, whose six seasons in Morgantown, West Virginia included various accolades from a Broyles Award nomination to development of All-American lineman, found himself in a precarious position with the Mountaineers firing of Head Coach Neal Brown. The school proceeded to name Rich Rodriguez their next Head Coach. and subsequently cleared the house with nearly every assistant coach, making Moore available for Virginia Tech to make an external hire.
