For the 100th anniversary of the first AP All-America team (in college football), the AP decided to make a team of the best of all of the nearly 2,000 first team All-Americans. Bruce Smith was the only Hokie, included on the second team.
Personally, looking at these lists, I can't really quibble with any of their inclusions, though I think there is a bit of recency bias showing. Do we really think that Tim Tebow and Vince Young are the best two QBs of the last 100 years?
Saw this post on X by Doug Bowman. It's a pretty in depth thread that goes through the planned talking points with the publicly available slides for the presentation. Pretty interesting and a little depressing at times in looking at where we stand in terms of funding amongst the ACC.
Basically last of the public schools. Anyhow won't go into too much detail on it cause I'm posting from my phone and it's a decently long thread with the slides.
It may be a few weeks away but I just watched the Netflix documentary, and I'm searching for anything I can get to help me make it to the season. Let the hate flow through you my friends.
Shane Beamer thinks he didn't come to Virginia Tech because he'd be known as Frank's Son. Really it's because we laughed him out of the building because of his boxing glove on a stick.
Shane Beamer thinks USC stands for university of South Carolina, we all know it's really for University of Southern California.
It's the return of the macxANDcheese Pry-ssr. I will be bringing y'all these pry-ssr's again this season as my time allows and my stomach can tolerate press conferences. I am trying my hand at an AI-assisted breakdown this season, so if something seems wackier than my usual typos, please call me out on my BS.
Split Zone Duo's ACC Preview Here. VT talk starts at ~51:00.
On SZD, they take a Rose/Bud/Thorn approach to season previews (Rose = good, Bud = you're interested to find out, Thorn = bad).
I decided just to post the transcript here - it's lightly edited for clarity. They had some really interesting discussion about the quality of our transfers and Kyron Drones.
Got Episode 1 on right now...Shane Beamer and Les Miles Brian Kelly were featured. Huge focus on Virginia Tech (Frank even makes a cameo), how Shane is trying to climb out of his dad's shadow and no longer be known as "Frank's son".
Leads me to believe that even if him and Whit were on good terms, VT was not a school he wanted take a HC job.
They give the Hokies a 12.5% Chance to make the Playoffs. They point out critical games are the two against SEC opponents. The 28th ranking puts the Hokies 4th in the ACC with Clemson at 7, Miami at 8 and SMU at 17.
Creates a dichotomy between the media vote of 11th in ACC compared to this evaluation.
Article out today where the NC Central head coach accused a Virginia Tech assistant of trying to get his starting running back into the portal during a game from the sideline. The article doesn't name the assistant.
At a media event Friday, North Carolina Central coach Trei Oliver was asked about the most ridiculous moments he's faced in coaching, and his response set off alarms across the state of Virginia.
Oliver said he found a Virginia Tech assistant coach on the sideline for one of North Carolina Central's games last year, and suggested the coach was there to lure his star running back, J'Mari Taylor, into the transfer portal.
Here we go again, except this time it hits right into our own backyard.
Per Finebaum:
"I actually had a source today tell me that North Carolina has a handshake agreement with the SEC," Hamilton said. "That same source tells me Virginia has one with the Big Ten.
The Jacksonville Jaguars must sort out their running back room in training camp. Rookie Bhayshul Tuten ensured on the first day that he'll get ample consideration for the top spot on the depth chart.
Garry Smith of the Florida Times-Union reports that Tuten broke off a handful of big runs, adding that the rookie routinely showcased his top-notch speed to start training camp
I'll be at camp Friday and one day next week to see in person how he is doing.
Long story short, FSU went through a $265m renovation of Doak last year to gut one sideline to install a series of lower suites. The updates have now been finalized and come with a reduction of seating capacity that takes the stadium from around 80k capacity to 67k, slightly more than Lane.
The analysis was mid at best, but Dan and Ty (1) are high on the Hokies (like... 8ish wins high) and (2) shouted TKP/French's article on Seifkis so ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!!
Kirby Smart on 9-game SEC schedule:"I don't think we saw value in adding 9 more losses to our league last year, in terms of the way they picked the (Playoff) teams."If we are going to play a 9th game, we need the right people making the right decisions in terms of who goes... pic.twitter.com/rBHSnoO2HJβ SEC Mike (@MichaelWBratton) July 15, 2025
So fucking sick and tired of the SEC narrative. These assholes can't break away and form their own national championship fast enough.
"You have to invest in football, because that drives, that is the engine, as we've said over and over again, that is the engine," Williams said. "Without a clear investment in football that is visible, then, whether it's conference realignment or media rights or television deals or sponsorships, if you don't invest in the primary driver of this entire industry, then you're sending a message that you're you don't want to be a part of a national landscape moving forward, and we certainly want to be a part of the national landscape moving forward, and that starts with a proven track record of investing in the primary revenue driver."
