Filling an empty Trophy Case

Had a cool weekend in Seattle and Found a One Time Champion that filled their Trophy Case

I'm not an NFL Fan more than knowing where the Hokies in the NFL are, and currently I'm in last in my fantasy league. But I thought it was really cool to see the Lombardi Trophy

What was even cooler is the story of Seahawks.

No one said we aren't good enough to win

No one said we don't have the traditions to win

The coach was in

The owner was in

So, Why not us too?

Get Lawson Ready for Next Year?

Why not give Lawson some significant PT and let him get some real experience since we have already burned the redshirt?

I understand the traditional thinking that you can "scar" a quarterback for life if you play him before he's ready, but I don't subscribe to this, especially if he's not expected to come in and be the man. IMO, if Lawson played an entire game, he would look like a completely different QB by the end of the game. Not saying we should play him for an entire game, but I wouldn't be opposed. Let the kid get out there and sling it around. Worst that happens is we lose the game (and potentially scar the kid for life).

Spread Offensive Coordinators

So let's say Beamer steps down at the end of this year and Bud gets the job. I'm not commenting on whether this should happen, but it's certainly a possibility as he's a top candidate for us. If that happens I have to imagine Loeffler's gone and we go for what Bud has always wanted; an uptempo, spread offense allowing us to make the transition from ball-control defensive powerhouse to offensive juggernaut with a high-risk/high-reward defense, ala TCU's transition a couple of years ago. If that's the case, who's the offensive coordinator for this team?

Above .500......

Looking at the quality of this team and the way that the rest of our schedule plays out, I can't really see this team being above .500 at any point. The last time that happened at VT was back in 1988-89. Here's to hoping that this is rock bottom for the program.

Coaches Who Stayed Too Long

...and what happened after.

I know there's a lot of football knowledge out there so I thought I'd throw out a question for the community to answer.

Dadi Nicolas' Play Through 7 Games of 2015

Anyone else think there's something wrong with him, whether it be mental or physical? He has missed several tackles that were automatic last year and even in 2013, and he can't seem to buy a sack.

Furthermore, if Dadi is still ailing from the hand injury, why is he out on the field when he clearly isn't capable of regularly making a tackle? If pro scouts are paying next to any attention to him this season, his draft stock is plummeting.

T-Shirt idea

Now that it we are in the purgatory of mid-season sub .500 hell, it'd be nice to have a the following on a TKP shirt. Is it time that such a statement be publicy emblazed on maroon and burnt orange shirts?

Thoughts?

ACC Wheel of Destiny week 7

This is just to inform folks of the state of the conference. I'm not saying anything about anyone's chances, beyond the actual scenarios in play. All scenarios are based on the team in question winning out.

On the Coastal side:
Pitt, Duke, and UNC are still undefeated in conference play, and thus control their own destiny. Miami, while 1-1, still controls their destiny, since their loss comes from the Atlantic side.

UVA (1-1) needs two Pitt losses to get back in control.

VT (1-2) needs:
-three Pitt losses
-two Miami losses
-the winner of Duke/UNC to lose another game

The Size of the Virginia Tech Defense

After how our defensive line got pushed around all day against Miami, I got to thinking about how our defense has gotten progressively worse over the last few seasons and what the root cause may be. At a basic level, our defensive line seems woefully undersized. That led me to make this comparison in the Open Thread:

2006
DE Orion Martin 6'2" 250lbs
DT Barry Booker 6'4" 280lbs
DT Carlton Powell 6'2" 294 lbs
DE Chris Ellis 6'5" 260 lbs

2015
DE Ken Ekanem 6'3" 248 lbs
DT Luther Maddy: 6'2" 283lbs
DT Corey Marshall: 6'2" 266lbs
DE Dadi Nicholas 6'3" 233lbs

Miami Vent Thread

1. Good thing we didnt get out coached in the game and give Miami 10 points. (Time outs at the end of the 1st half and Going for it on 4th and 5 instead of the field goal)
2. If Brewer was ready to go why wasnt he out there sooner?

Week 7 College Football games

We are into the heart of the regular season with some good and some great math ups today. Utah State demolished Boise State already, Standford dismantled UCLA and Auburn hung on the win against Kentucky. Today we have Memphis beating Ole Miss 13th in the nation. Louisville and FSU are playing a close one and Pitt and GT close. Later we have Bama and Texas AM, Syracuse and LOLUVA, Michigan and Michigan State, Vandy vs SC to see who can first SEC win. Late games of Florida and LSU, USCw and ND, anOSU and Penn State. Any big games your are watching?

Interesting take on the fall of Spurrier and how Shane contributed

From the South Carolina 247 site. Basically lays the leaving of Shane in 2011 as the first major step in the fall if the HBC.

"Beamer was an energetic, young coach who understood the nuances of tirelessly working the phones and constantly maintaining contact with recruits."

Now his recruiting in Richmond hasnt been all that was hoped for, and his hand at being a full time Offensive Coach was a bust.

But undeniably he will find a job next likely going back to Defense, or ST's full time, and be another recruiting coordinator.

Ironically he was replaced at SCAR as RC by Spurrier Jr, and he contributed to a degree to some big misses for them.
