Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
So the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued their ruling after reviewing the O'Bannon case, and this quote pretty much sums it up.
""In this case," it added, "the N.C.A.A.'s rules have been more restrictive than necessary to maintain its tradition of amateurism in support of the college sports market. The Rule of Reason requires that the N.C.A.A. permit its schools to provide up to the cost of attendance to their student athletes. It does not require more.""
In key the ruling reversed Judge Walker's earlier plan to allow up to 5k a year per player to be paid after leaving school for Name, Image, and Likeness rights used by the school during broadcasts and such.

French joined me earlier today to break down Tech's loss to ECU from an Xs & Os standpoint. I know it's tough to relive that game, but at least you can learn a little football from French. Side note: Virginia Tech should offer some kind of football film class and hire French as an adjunct professor. Just an idea...

I am assuming that we will have an official weather post sometime later this week, but after the Flood of the Century here in Blacksburg today, rain is on the brain
Saturday we're supposed to be getting hit with the effects of tropical storm/hurricane Joaquin... like inches and inches of rain.
Does this bode well for our gameplan? Or does it make you more worried, because of how poorly our defense showed up in the rain against that team in the eastern part of North Carolina?

Will miss an undisclosed amount of time. Thought it deserved its own thread. Hopefully our defense isn't Swiss cheese with him out, like last week.

Pitt has upset Virginia Tech 5 times since the turn of this century, so I was wondering which one was the most frustrating to you.
I think the 2003 loss was the worst one for me. It was the first year that I really lived and died with the Hokie football team but I'm not sure 2003 was the best entry point as a 10 year old kid who thought sports was life and death.
#3 VT goes into West Virginia on a Wed. night and gets destroyed. Then #10 Tech exorcises the Miami demons by destroying the Canes and we're back in the national title picture. And then Pitt happens.

There has been a running theme about the growing apathy and, for lack of a better term "fandom", by the current students or recent Hokie graduates returning to Lane. See: paper airplanes, leaving early during games, starting the wave, being somewhat less passionate than the old guard (again I'm painting with a broad brush here).
I had some downtime at work today and decided to look at the state of VT Football when I was at school vs. what you would be experiencing if you were currently a Senior at Virginia Tech today. I was really blown away by the difference in my experience vs. the current student body.

Thanks to the kick in the groin we gave ourselves last week I've already slipped back in to a state of ambivalentness (at best... if that's even a word). I'm looking over the schedule and we could easily win or lose every game based on how this team is playing. On one hand its exciting to think that we could win out. On the other, we've had way too much recent experience with hope and promise quickly turning in to steaming pile of stuff being reflected in the "L" column.

After watching most of all the games we've played so far, I've been coming away more impressed with the play calling; specifically how the plays seem to build on one another and set up plays for later in the game. As I've read through the film reviews and boards (who would have thought that the O would be the least complained about thus far?) I keep coming back to the "controversial" pre-season hiring of Max Warner. My understanding is that his job is the help review film, game plans, etc and basically be a second set of eyes for Lefty. Now obviously this being Lefty's 3rd year is a bigger impact, but has anyone else noticed this? Also, I haven't seen anything being reported on it.

If you have any issues with how you think this was scored, let me know. We aren't perfect and there is some interpretation issues at times and of course, it's against the spread.
Thanks for your patience.

Switching it up this week to show the RSN affiliates first, since it's the Hokies playing.
If you're in Virginia, look for the game on the Comcast Sports Net channel on your cable system. The link says it's on the "Plus" channel, but my FiOS guide is saying we're on the main channel, followed by Boston College vs. Duke. On FiOS, this channel is 576. The "Plus" channel is 578, and will be showing JMU and Richmond games. (The Plus channel is where the Ravens preseason games are when they play the same time as the Redskins in preseason.)
Most of the other regions showing the game will have it on the regional Fox Sports Net channel.

Ok so I finally decided it was time to dig into this theory that teams have 1 lead back and 1 change of pace/scat back. We have had tons of conversation about it the last few weeks and maybe seeing the stats all laid out would help the conversation. I do understand each RB has a skill set and so called package but there comes a time when teams play towards their strengths and or that RB that is the best option.
I decided to use ESPN stats and only counted RBs that had 8+ carries as that seems to be legit with 3 games played so far. I left out GT since they're a option team and that has 0 correlation with 90% of teams.

1 Ohio State
2 Michigan State
3 Mississippi
4 TCU
5 Baylor
6 Notre Dame
7 UCLA
8 Georgia
9 LSU
10 Utah
Those 10 teams only include 1 OSU/Bama Team. It seems as part of this debate about VT's future there's been a lot of mentioning how VT isnt OSU/Bama and we are right about where we should be.
Anyone want to tell the Head coaches or players of those 10 teams they aren't supposed to be there?

I got to thinking, with as crappy as this season has started off, I wonder how this affects whether particular players leave for the NFL this year or not, particularly Kendall and Bucky. Kendall hasn't played particularly well and is now injured again and Bucky has been nonexistent for most of the year. Would they ultimately benefit more from staying another year?

Hello, friends.
Just wanted to give a little insight to anyone who was thinking/will be thinking about traveling to ECU for a football game. My overall experience was more negative than positive, but
I've got a few quick points for everyone to remember when weighing their options: Some OK, some not so great.
1) Greenville is NOT Blacksburg - I don't want to harp on this too much, but Greenville is not a place I see myself returning to. It's small, rundown, and there isn't really much to do outside of watching a football game. Not taking the rain into account making everything dreary, it's just nothing special. No great buildings, campus is meh, and nothing that made me go, "Oh, cool!"
