Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
So I'm scouting the roster of Purdue. B1G country loves them some big ol' cornfed linemen, and I'm worried about a Pitt-style demolition of our front seven. By and large, not much scares me about their line, pretty comparable to ours in size for the most part, but then I stumbled across Corey Clements. Click here for his bio.
Six foot eight and tipping the scales at 420 pounds. To put that in perspective, he's the same height as Parker Osterloh but outweighs him by nearly 100 pounds. Or put another way, he outweighs Tim Settle (when Tim reported for fall camp) by sixty pounds.

Looks like the team has been practicing this week in the Furman lids, which is generally a sign they'll be worn that weekend.
Which, is interesting, as these were supposed to be a 1 time deal.
Also, recently heard that the school will not be producing mini or replica helmets from the Ohio St game. The plan was that they would should we have won the game, but the process to get that done with chrome lids is so expensive they didn't deem it worth it to produce them from a losing effort. Seeing as how there's still a surplus left from both the Boise St game and the white Pro Combats the year before, I can't say I blame them. Price point would have been $80 for a mini helmet.

"We play a lot of press coverage so you're going to get your hands on people and that type of thing," Foster said. "It's no different when I watch everybody else when we watch other people's film. (Tech DBs coach Torrian Gray) coaches them hard, does a great job teaching those guys. I think he kinda needs to watch his own guys there, too. They play a lot of man coverage, too."

interesting to see how the conferences were aligned in the 1930s and teams that existed then that don't now. it's a great piece for those interested in the history of college football. here's the Link

On Monday, French joined me to give an Xs and Os breakdown of Tech's 42-3 win over Furman. As usual, he was chock-full of football knowledge and insight. Hope you enjoy:

I stumbled upon a couple of articles about redshirting (or not redshirting) true freshmen, which, I felt like sharing given there's been a lot of discussion about playing/redshirt Lawson and Lydon.
Urban Meyer hates redshirting players, saying:
It makes for more recruiting and perhaps more growing pains, but Meyer said at his weekly press conference that he doesn't want to redshirt any freshmen, though it will happen.

Welcome to week three, it has some big shoes to fill after a surprisingly very good and entertaining week two. I love those weeks. On paper this week is far superior, lets see if that holds true on the field. Also, A lot of teams {cough} Ole Miss, Clemson, GT {cough} have played nobodies and smoked them, while others have had good to solid OOC matchups. Pretty hard to get a gauge for another week or two.

If you are unfamiliar HAS is a weekly satire article written by Spencer Hall and Ryan Nanni from Every Day Should Be Saturday, one of the top SB Nation sites.
They provide a colorful take on the week's action rom the view of an even angrier, spiteful Steve Spurrier.

Favorite of this week: "That's a tough loss for UVA, though it is refreshing to see a cop make life miserable for a bunch of rich white people for once.

Mr. Whit Babcock and Staff:
It happened in the first quarter on Saturday. The very quiet and polite mother sitting with her two young daughters in the row in front of me in Section 3 had a paper airplane land in her lap. As it was at the time, Section 1 and the plethora of students inventing the future of paper airplane engineering already required an air traffic controller.
I leaned over to my dad and said, "Well, I've had it. I'm writing another open letter."
The mother turned around and asked, "About the airplanes?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Good. This is maddening."

To me it seems as if any in-game, on-field presence of Hokie Bird has virtually disappeared. He's there for the tunnel run-out and then *poof*. Is HB meandering around the stadium in more of a fan interaction role or did he (maybe she) get relegated back to their place in the Beamer Barn until the 4th quarter ?
Noticed it vs. aOSU as well. Unless I'm just not paying close enough attention, but gone are the post-TD bench presses (why was this eliminated?) and pumping up the crowd on the regular from field level.
Where's Hokie Bird?!?!

I know it's only been two games but I have been extraordinarily impressed with Travon McMillian. He's from Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA, which is a high school that mine played regularly and I watched him run over my school's defense for years. Through two games, he is averaging over 10 yards per carry compared to 3.2 and 3.9 for JCC and Trey Edmunds, respectively. I'd love to see him become the primary back in the rotation before the end of the season. He's going to be fun to watch.
What do you guys think about Travon McMillian and the running backs in general?

I'm actively seeking a good highlight of it

It was a long, painful offseason, and there was plenty of chatter here about Scot Loeffler and his efficacy as an OC. One thing Lefty critics, apologists and the "wait and see" crowd all agreed on is that this, as year three of the Loeffler era, was a make or break year for Scot. Another year akin to 2013 and 2014 would not be tolerated. It was time for Lefty to prove he hadn't been wasting everyone's time.
To judge that effort and improvement, one thing I'd like to do this year is to keep a running tab on how the offense is performing this season as opposed to after the equivalent number of games last season. It isn't a perfect metric, but it should give us an idea of where we're going as an offense.
