Football Forum

Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.

The TKP family continues to amaze....

Until yesterday, I haven't posted here since April, when my wife and I, and my daughter lost our 18 year old son, Tyler. That post read as follows:

I'm not the most frequent poster here, but i do check in basically daily to see what's up, and it is because i feel like we are a family here that i am writing this...maybe it's purely just therapeutic for me, I don't know.....

My Wife and I, and our daughter lost our beautiful 18 year old son Tyler in a horrific car accident on Sunday. It is only the love and support of our family and friends that is allowing us to cope at all right now. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you all that I consider you family too and to ask you to do this TODAY...

weekly questions thread?

I just thought about an idea for a weekly thread, and I thought I'd run it past everyone to see if there's support for it before I pitch it to Joe et al.

Would y'all be interested in an open weekly thread where people can ask questions about football in general, our team, our schemes, etc. And then whoever knows the answer can respond? I just occasionally have minor questions that aren't really worth starting a whole thread, like "does our defensive line play left and right, or do they switch strong and weak?"

Let me know what you guys think.

BeamerBall.com Updated its Depth Chart (8/24)

There are a bunch of surprises.

I. Ford is the No. 1 X, Carlis Parker is his backup.

The starting o-line from left to right is: Gibson, Wang, Farris, Conte, McLaughlin. Teller is backing up Wang, Wade Hansen is behind McLaughlin, but ahead of Taraschke.

TE depth is: Malleck, Hodges, Cline.

J.C. Coleman and Marshawn Williams are Co-No. 1 tailbacks. Shai McKenzie is the backup and Edmunds is third-string, but really the fourth man. I'll make an educated guess and say Edmunds isn't 100% recovered from his injury, but it's encouraging that Shai is.

Game Recordings

TKP,

I'll be on an airplane back from Japan on Nov 15th and missing the Duke game. This is no doubt going to be a great game and I don't want to just have to read about it instead of watching it. I don't know anyone with TiVo or anything like it. Is there a source for recorded VT games so I can pretend to be watching the game in real time?

Gameday Preview show

Quick hits from the ESPN Gameday preview show:

-clip in opening sequence of TimeCop telling his team that anything is possible. I had a good hearty laugh.
-Desmond and Corso both pick VT to play FSU in Charlotte. Nice to see a little love. Herbstreit picked Pitt -- like he's ever going to say anything good about us.

Predictions: Starting QB, RB, and WR's.

Everyone,

I would love to hear everyone's final prediction for starting skill positions.
QB: (top 3)
RB: (top 3
WR's: (top 3)

Also throw in the starting 5 on the OL.

You can also clarify if you think the top 3 will be one group for William and Mary and already change by the Ohio State game.

I could see Beamer starting Trey or JC for game one but changing it by game two for instance. He has always seemed to have a seniority thing...but that seems to be changing, especially at WR.

Here are my picks:
QB-Brewer, Leal, Motley
RB-Williams, Mackenzie, JC....Edmunds sits due to injury recovery
WR-Standford, Ford, Byrn

OL-Gibson, Teller, Farris, Conte, Mclaughlin

Virginia Tech Football: Change The World

This is a pretty inspirational message, and looks like our Hokies are embracing it with gusto.

The Virginia Tech football team has adapted these 10 life lesson as its 2014 team motto. To view the whole speech that this team motto is based on, watch this video from Admiral McRaven.

Admiral McRaven is a highly decorated Navy SEAL, the future Chancellor of the University of Texas system and gave this awesome commencement address to the Longhorns this past spring:

11% Chance to beat anOSU

Here's a really interesting, if a bit old, article in a Cleveland newspaper. It's from July, so Braxton was still expected to play. (I didn't see this posted anywhere else--and I'm on this site a ridiculous number of times per day--anyway sorry if it's a duplicate.) Things I found interesting:

1) They have us pegged as their second most difficult opponent on the year.
2) That still only gives us an 11% chance of winning, in their eyes.
3) There's a 2012 video of Brewer in there from Texas Tech.

What one word would you use to describe the Virginia Tech Hokies?

ACC coaches including Frank Beamer have been asked to describe their team in one word.
To my surprise, coach Beamer described the Virginia Tech Hokies as: Developing
