Dan Mullen Quotes Cousin Eddie on GameDay
I don't know how GameDay will top this, ever.
Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
I don't know how GameDay will top this, ever.
From Hokiesports web site:
Skipper 3-2-1
To signify the start of Hokie Village, Skipper will fire 3.5 hours prior to kickoff. Additionally, Skipper will fire when the stadium gates open (2 hours prior to kickoff) and with one hour remaining until kickoff.
That is awesome - our tailgate does a shot of soco right before heading to the stadium - we can now usher that in with an announcement by Skipper!
My game advance is on here, as are links to any story you might have missed this week.

Go Hokies.
OSU tonight is hosting a movie night in the Shoe, showing Frozen on the jumbo scoreboard. Seems like a great way to engage younger fans and raise some money for school charities.
I can't wait for this season to start! I'll get to see us play at the shoe and at unc. By all accounts it should be an exciting season. But unfortunately a short one for me. At a date after the unc game I'll leave the country for one more trip to a rough country with rough mountains. Not WV... So as our team and hokie nation prepares for the season and I prepare as well, this is always at the forefront of my mind. Why we fight:
We cross several generations here. We are different colors, gender, nationalities, occupations. Yet, we all bleed only Hokie colors when discussing what Va Tech means to us. Reading this board the biggest thing that comes out is the obvious love and respect we share for what being a Hokie means. As we prepare for opening kickoff, please share what being a Hokie means to you.

How can Alabama be so confident in that FSU guy and be the #3 team in the country if they're not even confident enough to call him the starter a day away from kickoff?
Spare me the sarcastic comment, "Is that really a question!?!?"

Last night we got off to a strong start to the CFB season. Some may say that the season actually started Wednesday night, but here is official proof that it was actually Thursday:
The offseason is over.
BACK TO THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING: COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS BACK. BOOM.— THE KEY PLAY (@thekeyplay) August 28, 2014
ALL HAIL THE RETURN OF ALLCAPS!
Here are the rest of the weekend's games:
Didn't see this posted and thought some fellow Key Players may be interested. There will be a free Pep Rally for the William & Mary game starting at 6 pm on College Avenue (which will be closed off).
Once the Pep Rally ends there will be music from DJ TMMPO, The Band Concord (a great Blacksburg Americana band) and California Top-100 hip hop artist Sage the Gemini. There's also supposed to free food, giveaways and more.
All are welcome to attend.

Short article about Beamer's 28th Season as VT's Head Coach. A lot of questions about when he will retire addressed in here.
I think this comes across, but I really enjoy my job right now. I feel like the same guy I was 10 years ago. ... Youve got things to look forward to, Frank Beamer said. I think Ill know when its the right time. I dont think about it very much. I think when youre enjoying yourself, life is good. When youre not enjoying yourself ...
He paused.
I think Ill know when Im not a positive influence on this program.
Also, some good quotes from Mack Brown and Jim Grobe on Beamer.
I've always been a big fan of new university president Tim Sands, and this morning, he once again proved how awesome he is by tweeting out this excellent grid of shame. Let's all laugh for a bit at how UNC is just a smidge above Penn State in terms of shamefulness.
@VT_Football Solidly in the correct quadrant. Thanks Coach Beamer, staff, SAs, academic support and student affairs http://t.co/S7wzUVXSLJ— Timothy D Sands (@VTSandsman) August 29, 2014

Good little article on Boykin's success!
The production quality of this thing is amazing - I think it might be one of the best things the VT athletic department has produced. Definitely check it out.
Thought you all would be interested in this. David Wilson stopped by practice to talk to the team.
I'll always be rooting for him to succeed.
I was somehow watching the game last night where a Georgia State player got ejected for a targeting call. It had to be the worst call ever. yes the QB was sliding and it should have been a late hit but by no means was a targeting penalty. If that's targeting then Zumwalt should have been ejected as well. Its unreal how this new penalty is going to be called. The softest calls could be targeting and it really sucks. What happened to good hard hitting and pad sounds.
College football kicks off tonight, and plenty of games are on. A few NFL preseason games are also on (in the Northern VA area). From my quick search, Verizon FiOS customers are out of luck as FiOS launched SEC Network only in Florida and Texas. A few other games are also available through ESPN3 online.
EDIT: FiOS customers with Extreme or Ultimate packages and DirecTV customers should have the SEC Network. Feel free to add the channel number in the comments.
6 pm kickoff
SEC Network - USCe vs. A&M
7 pm kickoff
NFL Network - Eagles vs. Jets (two teams whose cheers consist of spelling their names)
Big 10 Network - Eastern Illinois vs. Minnesota
ESPNU - Wake Forest vs. ULM
