Hang on

Think the announcers did a high five at the end of the game? Not.

The most satisfying GIFtory in a while.

If I ask you to award a game ball to both an offensive and defensive player, who gets them? For me it is Hooker and Chamari

The first rule of Fight Club is we don't talk about turkey leg votes

It's weird to think that giving up 35 points we could have multiple defensive players of the game but the D Line deserves some consideration and Tisdale too... I'd probably go with Tisdale. On offense it's either Hooker or Keene and I'd go Keene (3tds, clutch play on final drive, put Hill on his ass and mocked his celebration). Hooker deserves a lot of love too.

O goes to Miami's QB1 Williams for single-handedly taking on the task of fixing our turnover margin.

D goes to our DL for pressuring the QB like the good 'ole days.

Proud author of one plaid comment.

Hooker, Keene, Lecitus Smith on offense

Conner on defense- most of the pressure came when Foster brought Conner and Deablo from the field. Belmar, Garbutt, Crawford before he got hurt, Kendricks, Pollard were all good. Griffin worked his ass off and made plays by being in the right place at the right time by pursuing hard (but he can still get washed out pretty easily.) Tisdale made a difference but also busted badly. Farley had one bad play and a ton of good ones.

Floyd- I don't know guys. I don't know what they do at rover. But, that is the weak link right now.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Interesting that the lone senior on defense is the weak link.

lone senior

More like lone seniorS

Floyd and Hewitt are probably our 2 weakest starters.

Hewitt is a junior

Whoops. That's extremely disappointing news.

I've never attacked the kid, and in previous posts have said he seems like a very hard worker and a good teammate. He shouldn't be starting, though. I'll stand by it and take downvotes if that's where we are.

Your downvotes are for implying that we're better off without him on the team, not for saying he shouldn't be starting.

Exactly... Imagine if we didn't have him this year? Hard to say we'd be better off given lack of depth at the position. If Fuga, Kendricks, and Pollard supplant him next year, then so be it.

I think we do have to point out that Floyd had 3 pass breakups. One was in the first half goal line stand on the play Tisdale threw up. And I think another was again in the red-zone on Miami's last drive at the end of the game.

To his credit, floyd made several nice pass breakups.

Edit: looks like this was already mentioned.

Thanks to Gif-tory we actually get to see the final play. Gif-tory > ESPN confirmed.

Should have been a 5th pick

Overheard as Duke assistant coaches took elevator down from press box: โ€œGuys, they stopped the run with a three-man front.โ€ - David Teel Tweet 2018

6th pick actually, another one called back for roughing the passer.

Any gif or video on that roughing the passer call? Was it a BS call?

It was a stupid thing to do by hewitt, but it was just a little push in the chest with his arms extended. Not nothing, but not going to be called every time

Danny is always open
23 can't read

It was questionable. Our player was about a step away when the QB released the ball. He didn't hit him at full speed either, basically pushed him.

Watched it again. Hewitt was already touching him as the ball was released, but the push was a beat after. Dumb play, but definitely not something that is called every time.

I personally agree with Bud's reaction and thought almost the exact same thing as it happened.

7th pick, the one got called back, then another one a little while later right into our guys hands, no Canes anywhere nearby, but he dropped it...Conner maybe?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

It was Conner. Farley also dropped a more difficult one.

Gonna go ahead and disagree with you there. That's a good way to take win probability from 100% to 0% if he catches it and then fumbles. An INT there does nothing, but pad stats. Batting it down is the safe/smart play.

If you play it, they will win.

I mean, if you stuck with the UT-UGA game through the end of the drive, you'd have seen it in 5 minutes instead of 36 hours.

This made Monday morning tolerable. Man I love when we beat Miami. Regardless of the way we do it, total beat down or a "lucky to squeak by", it just feels good giving them the L.

Was that Tisdale or Ashby puking?

Leonard. Duh.

Tisdale

Tisdale and he is my pick for Defensive player of the game. Dude was everywhere.

Yeah we could see that! He took "leave it all on the field" a little too literally....

I was at a wedding watching on my phone with no sound. Saw the first last play and the feed cut away and assumed we had won. Didn't find out there was another play until Sunday morning.

If they had tied it and we'd later lost...I really don't know what I would have done.

Exact same thing happened to me.

Was at a 3:30 wedding and watched part of the 1st quarter and the whole 4th quarter on someone's phone. Didn't feel too bad because there was at least 4 tables out of 12 watching the game.

The wedding was for a loluva grad. Said grad also asked me if loluva won their game Saturday...

That should tell you all you need to know.

It's from having intercourse in the spring.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I was at a family wedding where I promised my wife I wouldn't check on the game. The wedding party got a hold of this info and set up a TV at the reception just to taunt me.

The play that led to this woulda been INT #5, if not for the dumb roughing the passer

That feeling after we beat Miami!

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Players know when a bad personnel decision is being made and it impacts the morale and attitudes of the entire team.

By playing Hooker, this team had a level of energy and fight not seen since FSU the opening game of last year.

No sense in harping on a bad decision by Fuente these past 4 games, but Hooker showed he has the guts and toughness to be a great leader and QB for VT. When things were falling apart - that final drive was a thing of beauty.

"Dick to Hyman? DICK TO HYMAN!" - Guy in Lane Stadium crowd when Richard Johnson hit Josh Hyman on reverse pass in 2004.

Not gonna disagree with you, but the coaches (Fu included) seemed to have an energy and excitement about them that has been missing. I'm hoping that continues.

I'd be energized by 5 turnovers and 28 points in the first half also. Chicken or the egg?

"Dick to Hyman? DICK TO HYMAN!" - Guy in Lane Stadium crowd when Richard Johnson hit Josh Hyman on reverse pass in 2004.

I think you're reaching. Willis had some gutsy 4th quarter drives last year too.

It's not a reach at all - Willis was 4-5 as a starter last year and he played awful for 4 games in 2019.

Saying that team dynamics do not matter is reach. Beamer played Tyrod as a Freshman with an established starter in Glennon for the same reason. He could provide an immediate entire team spark that the other play could not.

"Dick to Hyman? DICK TO HYMAN!" - Guy in Lane Stadium crowd when Richard Johnson hit Josh Hyman on reverse pass in 2004.

Glad that Miami QB didn't look left on that final play.

Maybe. I reckon he was just too close for another Hail Mary.

Thank goodness he didnt hold the ball long enough and see RB to get more downfield/into the flat on his release.

Absolute dime of a chip block, or whatever it may be called, by the running back.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

He would have been racing for the pylon had the QB saw him...

While "wide open" at time of the throw, if he was passed the ball, he would've had up to 3 defenders (17 and 22 both with eyes on the ball and then whoever was actually covering) on him by the time he caught and turned up field. While a chance, I doubt he makes it in.

Right. If it were - say - Tua, Hurts, TL, they would have leveraged a pump fake to freeze the defense, and dump off in flat and hope your RB can outrun or make the lone man miss.

Thank goodness we were playing Miami.

Same thing I thought when the exact same running back outran our defense to the end-zone for the 2 point conversion earlier in the game...I wouldn't have bet money on him not scoring.

That was on Farley. If you watch, he had contain and broke back inside when he shimmied. If he keeps his leverage, he doesn't get in.

"I'll put a quote here to distract you from my inane comment."-Me

I think even if Tisdale hadn't tipped that ball it would have fallen incomplete anyways, the receiver was double covered and Farley was breaking to jump the route. Great coverage on the final un-viewed play.

โ€œTHE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!โ€

I just happened upon N'Kosi Perry's post game comments where he was asked about this play. He said it was a pre-snap read to throw to that receiver and that he should have thrown the ball higher to give his receiver more of a chance.

Proud author of one plaid comment.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

Ashby actually uses Donaldson's size against him. Donaldson starts right and Ashby helps him continue right while shedding him and moving left into the hole. Excellent play.

His judo is strong.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

The swim move for the sack is beautiful.

I know there are some that do not fault the ESPN guy for celebrating. I do. Fanboy is not part of the job description. His excuse and the excuses being made for him are lame. "He just likes big plays". Okay, where were the high fives when the Miami QBs were eating dirt? Nowhere.

These guys were biased all game. Their blood is Miami orange. They were wearing Miami on their sleeves for the entire game. Their frustration at Miami in the first half with all the turnovers was palpable. On that Hail Mary, for some to say they were simply celebrating good football, and not celebrating a Miami TD, is a bunch of trash.

The timing of the "Personal Foul" pop up is perfect on this gif.

Also, cross posting this gif I posted in the FAM thread because I feel like it belongs in Giftory too.

Point blank, GIFTORY took 6 hours (OK 6:07) to knock out on Sunday. For those that enjoyed, would please either share on social media, or go big and join The Key Players Club.

I got you, FAM.

May I ask what avenue you take to produce the gifs? Not that I'm doubting you, but I feel like there should be a way to streamline clipping/water marking 20ish gifs so it doesn't take you 6 hours.

So if there's a way we can help by pointing out game time's to look at (which we might already do in game thread) or producing gifs while the game is actually going on etc; I feel like a few of us would be more than happy to help.

Chamari Conner is one hell of a football player. Watch him closely on some of these plays. Especially the BINGO interception. Delivers a lick on the wideout #7, then high tails it down the field and knocks one of their linemen into next week. Love watching him play.

My favorite play is not even in giftory.

Game winning drive.

3rd and 5, game clock at 1:45.

HH rolls and fakes to his RB, then hits wide open Keene for a 1st and goal (and a completely missed Miami targeting penalty).

By my count, HH's roll and fake influenced 9 defenders into being in the wrong place.

That was a really well designed and executed play.

My Tisdale vomit gif made it! Thanks Joe! Also my favorite thing about the "swim" clip is probably that 3 offensive linemen are all blocking Griffin and just let Pollard run through untouched

Miami fans can go back to silent rage while they pretend this isn't a rivalry, despite their entire fan base and team hyping themselves up the whole offseason every year for 2 games. Double sweet this year too, given the Hill situation.

Its going to be so great when FSU shits the bed but still keeps enough left in the tank to curb stomp um. 0-3 in games they care about. womp womp

I been here since day 0.

I just hope they get their shit together for this Friday....and now I need to go shower after hoping Miami wins a game.

If it's any consolation, the underdog has covered the spread in 8 of their last 9 meetings, and has won outright 4 times in that span.

Wow what a game and what a season so far. These ups and downs (or maybe downs and ups) requires high doses of Tums. Some of my thoughts:

-- Turnovers: it had to eventually turn our way. Yeah Willis has forced the ball at times when he never should have. But fumbles on the ground, for example, typically go 50-50. And it has not been that way so far this year. So statistically it finally happened.

-- Hooker definitely adds a dynamic to the offense and should be the starter going forward. He went 10-20 passing and did have some accuracy issues. However, because of his running ability the team had 43 run plays and 20 pass plays. That is a flip of the script compared to Willis.

-- We had 350 yards vs Furman, 403 vs ODU, and 432 vs BC. Against Miami is was 337 total yards. Not unexpected. The short fields on turnovers definitely made the day. We only averaged 3.6 yards per play rushing, which is nothing to write home about.

-- One thing you did see on the field which does not show up in the stats: misdirection plays worked. In particular the plays to Dalton Keene. You could see the Miami defense over-pursue. They were burned by Hooker previously and kept losing Keene on key plays due to over pursuit.

-- The offense was able to sustain a couple of 10+ play drives. This result is definitely a step in the right direction.

-- The defense is hard to predict. It is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The first half was Dr. Jekyll. Turnovers galore and holding Miami to no points. Wait ... Mr. Hyde surfaced on the last play at half โ€“ the Hail Mary that scored a TD. Then the second half was a total meltdown where Miami seemingly advanced the ball at will. This play is wildly inconsistent and is going to need to improve.

I think the D-line and pass rush gassed out. There were a lot of 3 and outs and a 3 play scoring drive by our O. We were definitely still making plays, just couldn't get enough stops to get off the field. Despite giving up so many points. It still had a different feel then all of the letdowns last year (outside of the DJ Dallas busted run). My one main gripe is why they subbed Armani Chatman for Farley. He was beaten 2 plays in a row for first down and TD.

Tyrodโ€™s Tailor

The coaches said that players were exhausted, getting tired; it was very humid down there and a long long emotional game.

We only averaged 3.6 yards per play rushing, which is nothing to write home about.

true but Miami held like the #3 rushing defense or something like that coming into the game. We doubled what they have allowed on avg I believe. We don't have a dominant rush game yet either so I think with what we are used to of late with rushing and Miami's rushing defense the 3.6 ypc isn't actually too bad. It was enough to keep them honest.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

Tough to believe no one bit on that play action.

only thing that could have made this play better would be if a blitzing corner had just knocked the ball out of his hand when he reached it out.

only thing that could have made this play better would be if a blitzing corner had just knocked the ball out of his hand received the hand off like a RB when he reached it out and ran it back for a touchdown.

Whoever runs ESPN college football coverage must be a Miami grad. The network constantly bemoans the fact that Miami is not a national power. It made the Hokie win that much sweeter.
Nice job on the Gif-tory.

Have to remember that Manny Diaz worked as a production assistant for ESPN before going into coaching. Some of these guys worked with Diaz at ESPN. That may be part of the influence. AND honestly, the ACC needs VT, Miami, FSU and Clemson to be good with Louisville and one of Pitt, VA U, NC State or GT be consistently a threat to win. FSU and VT picked a bad time to have bad years.
