Virginia football head coach Mike London announced today four members of the Cavalier coaching staff have been relieved of their duties. Those coaches are associate head coach/defensive coordinator Jim Reid, defensive line coach/recruiting coordinator Jeff Hanson, running backs coach Mike Faragalli and tight ends coach Shawn Moore.
In addition to those moves, London announced safeties coach Anthony Poindexter will no longer be the Cavaliers' special teams coordinator but he will remain on staff.

"After meeting with Michael and discussing his future with our program and his personal goals and interests I understand his desire to complete his college football career elsewhere," London said. "Michael has been an outstanding member of our program on the field, in the classroom and in the community. I appreciate the competitive nature, work ethic and leadership he brought to our program and I wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Seems like an odd group to fire
I thought Lazor was in more trouble than Reid. And Poindexter. And why fire the recruiting coordinator with all your (mythical) recruiting victories?
Anyway, any coaching change probably hurts. Tough to hire when you may have only 1 or 2 years left. But, they could luck into a Bill Musgrave type hire.
Agreed.
Time for Beamer and Weaver to follow a similar pattern.
heads need to roll on the offense.
Sacrificing his coaches buys him 1 more mediocre year... if ML doesnt win 7 or 8 games next year with all those tidewater recruits hes gonna get canned and he knows it
Will Rocco end up at Liberty of UofR?
Yep.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. Richmond is definitely the logical place for him to go. Because if he goes to Richmond, he'll be playing for his uncle, and you know what that means... he'll get to play!! Go family ties!!
Which is really unfortunate for Michael Strauss who has already been beaten out by Rocco before at UVA. Strauss was super clutch this year after our starting QB Laub was injured. He beat #2 ranked JMU (got to go see it, and let me tell you that was a sweet, sweet victory).
Strauss is absolutely the heir apparent for the UR starting QB job... unless Rocco decides to crash the party. And I feel like he will end up doing just that.
But I sincerely hope Rocco chooses another school. UR does not need another UVA hand me down... Thanks but no thanks.
Even London understands how to fire coaches...

Shawn Moore is an alum, isn't he? That's cold.
Well.....
...we got A decision on Cornell Brown coming up this winter.....
Sometimes you hope a guy fills a role and recruits based on their previous experience at the school. But it puts you in a tough place when they do t perform
don't think defense is the problem but i'd agree that up to this point, hasn't delivered the way that we need for him to (recruiting-wise). from what i've heard, he's a great coach though .. and brings a lot of energy to practice and the sidelines .. and fwiw -- he has a few more seasons before the jury is out .. no need for unnecessary changes --- CFB needs to focus on getting the offense right
Agreed....
He's a bit of an odd fit right now. I'd like to see him at DL Coach, but Wiles is so effective. We really don't use the Whips as an isolated position as much as we used to, so I wonder if we need a specific coach for them.
Then, there is always the chance that we lose a coach we don't want to. If you're UVA, why not offer Wiles the DC job? Gray could go to a lot of other schools, especially in the SEC where he has recruiting ties.
But, Cornell hasn't quite lived up to what we were hoping for. Maybe it's the position he's coaching. I do like his energy.
"NO, TWEEDY, IT'S WHIP!"
Yep and his son (a 4 star defensive tackle r-Fr) is on the team
And just read that Donta Wilkins may have reopened his recruitment. :)
Hopefully Quinn Blanding sees the light and comes to Hokieland.
hahahahaha
wait .... hahahaha
unlikely. fsu was gaining traction.
he will have a new h.s. coach though.

regretting that decision? i hope recruits see this

Rocco's Take

Basically
A two QB system does not work and is not healthy for a program. That's what he's saying, I wonder if London's light bulb will click on now or if he will still try to play multiple QBs.
Hmmmm
I really hope he is talking to Tim Harris, who just recently decommitted from UVA.
Really?
Hasn't heard that til know. A 4* CB...yes please!!
We could definitely use some more DBs.
According to evangwatkins, he did
edit: as in shane beamer visited tim harris
That would be a big flip, to say the least.
From Harris' commitment....
....he seemed to be a bit loose. I can't remember, but I believe he had a tweet after he committed about having an open mind or something.
Yeah
@JLMHokie mentioned to me on twitter that he never seemed to be high on Virginia Tech and I agree, especially considering how early on he pulled the trigger for UVa. I know he and Davon Morgan talk(ed) a ton because I remember Davon freaking out when Tim committed to UVA talking about his "little bro going to UVA".
I would not be surprised if:
1. Mike London was able to smooth things out with Tim
2. Shane was able to flip him to VT
3. Tim chose somewhere different altogether.
Welcome to recruiting, where adults try to read the minds of 17-18 year old kids.
Varina
Is a big time pro-uva school so keep that in mind a-la Bayside of the Richmond area
^^^^THIS
not as pro bayside for sure .. but definitely uva-leaning ... i think he's high on michigan's list too -- if he doesn't end up at uva, i could see him at michigan
