Is this too good to be true?

I just saw this post. If this is legitimate, I think it's a dream come true. Somehow, I don't see the Fire Bryan Stinespring blog fucking with us like that, but maybe I'm blinded by my tears of joy. Anyone else hear about this from a different source?

you can never really tell with these rumors, just look at the last big rumor we discussed on here about the Boo Hoos and GT going to the B1G that was supposed to be announced on Monday.

Well, If this is true, I'm interested to see what Franklin can pull together in his first season. I'll be holding my breath till its official though. I wish Ocain and Newsome could have left on a better note and all. Eagerly awaiting an announcement.

SEMPER TECH

That indeed does sound too good to be true.

It it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

I will be surprised if all of that happens.

I highly doubt that Stiney leaves for a HC spot. That just makes zero sense whatsoever.

The other three things sound plausible so I could see those happening.

#VT4SEC

I think it makes perfect sense

Hes a HC guy, not a coordinator. His skill set is strategery and recruiting, not execution and details.

Look to Kalamazooo.

agry. The guy's a manager (coach) not an engineer (coordinator).

The staff, unlike many others, don't want the distraction of major coaching changes a few weeks before a bowl game. I really think Frank is aware of fan (and booster) reaction this year. He made necessary changes for recruitment at the right time. Stiney has been with us for a good many years now and has been able to remain secure under the umbrella of BCS bids and 10 win seasons. As much as a 6-6 regular season can call for someone's head, Frank may also allow for "one bad season" as asinine as that may sound.

There are many here connected and constantly perusing sources for this kind of information. I'd wait it out before a website made explicitly to get one person fired tells you that he will in fact be fired AND replaced by an OC that FANS think would be a great fit.

I don't mean to burst any bubbles but if another bigger name wants a Tony Franklin and can write a bigger check, all ties and affiliations here are gone.

I'd just wait it out. Just my two cents.

If Bryan Stinespring was hired elsewhere as a head coach we would know about this already. Schools don't want to announce hires.

Agreed, HC's need to get to work recruiting at least

But maybe since our bowl game is early'ish, he worked out a deal to stay through the bowl game.

I'm serious, watch Western Michigan. Weaver's word is good up there....

I used to never agree with you but now we do.

Also, I typo'd that. I meant to say schools want to announce hires.

Please let this happen

It probably won't but it would be so great if this were true.

I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

rumcove said something similar in a thread here: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2012/november/30/gt-and-uva-leave-acc-....

I always thought Stinespring would be retained in some capacity, because he's a great recruiter and he represents the program well. Where is he going to go? I have a hard time believing a school is leaving its door open for him until after our bowl, or there's another head coach out there about to get axed but the schools is waiting on Stiney to become available before doing so. If he were to go, high school or I-AA seem the most likely landing spots to me. He's over his head as offensive coordinator, and the move to let O'Cain call plays cut his legs out from under him after a pretty successful 2010 season. If he leaves the program completely, it would be a loss.

I don't agree with how FBS has conducted their campaign against Stinespring, a site dedicated to his termination with little analysis other than a couple of stats + BURN IT ALL DOWN DOT GIF when we lose or underperform. With that said, I'm not sure what their motivation would be for just making things up. They don't have ads on their site, so page views are out of the question. If they have a source, the quality of information depends on that person.

Lot of smoke this offseason, so we'll see what happens...

We trust our source, and it is someone close to (but not inside) the program. I'm personally skeptical myself, but our source is adamant that this is really happening. We decided to run with it because we don't pretend to be journalists over at our place. We're not naming our source per request, but it passes our own personal threshold of credibility.

Having said that, I too will fully believe it when I see it.

If that were to happen i would shirt my britches

Highly skeptical

Honestly it does seem to good to be true. It doesn't line up with Frank's track record and would be pretty surprising. Even if Frank does make these changes you would think he would wait til after the bowl and not cause a distraction.

Mario Cristobal fired @ FIU today

He turned down the Rutgers job last year..... went 3-9, now out of a job....

but, for VT: Hire him as OL coach! He coached TE's/OL @ Miami and Rutgers, known as an excellent recruiter. Could give us a strong south-florida cnxn.

This honestly sounds like FBS just wrote up a best case scenario checklist and wrote it down as confirmed news. It sounds too good to be true.

I completely agree with you here. Its as though every fan wish list item was rolled into the post and issued as sourced information. Now, it could all be true, but we should all be skeptical (as we all seem to be) until proven otherwise.

Plus, now that Sonny Dykes is headed out west to Cal and Franklin is a West Coast guy, who's to say he doesn't join Sonny in Berkeley?

@PhillyHokie007

I wouldn't call him a west coast guy (other than recruiting California for La Tech since they're in WAC).

Sonny Dykes is a West Texas guy (which might as well be Pac country)

Tony Franklin is a Kentucky boy who has spent his entire 20+ yrs of coaching in 4 states, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Louisiana. I'd say that Virginia is much less of a stretch than California. The real question is whether he wants to be a head coach at the collegiate level. If so, he may get a crack at Louisiana Tech

It's Nice!

I pray for the love of Hokie Nation that all of these things are true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should have been done a long time ago.

Bud

How much longer can Bud Foster coach great defenses that keep us in games just so that the offense can cut their feet out from under them by not producing points?

Sonny Dykes

One of Tony Franklin's buddies and co-workers just got hired to be the headcoach at Cal. I think that's a better sign that we may somehow get Franklin...

Logan 3:16

Coworker? You mean his boss right? It's possible but more likely that he ends up at cal or as the head coach at Louisiana tech...I have a feeling that it's just wishful thinking for all of us..maybe I'm wrong

The dream is dead?

It looks like Franklin is going with Dykes. We'll probably know for sure tomorrow. If he is, I think he's out of the picture.

How I feel

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

@VT_Warthog

If he doesn't get the HC job there, how about Mike Dunbar at NIU? I don't know if anyone has watched them this year, but Jordan Lynch is a smaller version of LT3. He's a powerful runner with a strong arm who can win the game with his arm or his legs. Dunbar has done a great job this year with him and now they're in a BCS game. If NIU doesn't offer him the HC job then I think we should take a run at him. But I do think it's unlikely for them not to offer him the HC job.

Rip his freaking head off!

I think VT could do better than Franklin

like who?? i'm not sure they can. look at his offense's numbers. i don't like the idea of fridge for a few reasons -- mainly because he doesn't like to recruit (from what i've heard).

i think that the hc or oc at odu would be a good hire -- i just don't know that i like the air raid offense.

I still like Fridge. I think Shane can make up for his lack of recruiting and Fridge help us put some points on the board. But I don't know if he'd take the job just because he's old and might not want to coach anymore. How about Tony Peterson? He's right down the road at Marshall and their offense has been pretty good this year. I don't know if he'd fit in here because he loves throwing the ball, but it couldn't be worse than O'Cainspring, right?

Rip his freaking head off!

believe it when I see it

Frank hasnt done it and wont do it. He will let Newsome and Cavanaugh retire and act like the changes were made...more smoke screen BS like he did when he made Ocain the play caller and brought in Shane.

We have to be the only school in the country that has a scapegoat QB coach calling the plays with the OC sitting right next to him. If thats how bad it is ---it wont change until Frank is gone...and I hate to say this --I really do, but Frank brought Tech to the promise land and he will take them right back to 2-8-1 and leave on shitty note UNLESS........... he makes changes on offense. You know he reads this blog.

DO SOMETHING FRANK ! The pay aint justified for the OC !

Rumor

Someone told me CFB will retire after signing day.

It seems plausible that, rather than make the tough decisions to let people go, he would leave it to his successor to clean house.

But a rumor like this would seem to have the opposite effect to disuade recruits rather then keep them on board through signing. Maybe the rumor is a ruse by a competing school. If you really plan to change leadership, the sooner the better for the program and the successor. What would waiting until after the bowl game do? Unless it factors into bonus payments for the coaches.

I don't anticipate any changes. If they were looking to improve the offensive staff they needed to have done it already to help with recruiting. If they are looking for changes they are missing out on the best talent (except for possible NFL end of season firings/resignations). Hmmmm....maybe there is a plan.

Nope

No way does CFB leave after a garbage season like that, or even before his contract is up.
Lets just squash that rumor now please.

No way CFB retires before Weaver.

It's a great day to be a Hokie!

For what it's worth, I heard the same rumor. As far as I'm concerned (and hope), nothing more than a rumor.
