Ask TKP: What I want to see and from whom I want to see it: 2018

Good Morning TKPers!

As the LONG off season drags on we all have time to contemplate many a thought about Virginia Tech football. One thing I like to think about is what I want to see and from whom I want to see it. I am going to summarize this below and then I would love to see your take on the topic. So... Here goes!

  • Josh Jackson: I do not object to his "game management". This is clearly something Fuente values. I would like to seem play a little "stronger". He's not exactly a tiny guy. At 6'1" 216 he's easily as big as an average college running back. Maybe not as fast. I expect to see his passing improve though it was not bad last year. I think people felt let down after having Jerod Evans but don't forget Jerod was throwing to Hodges, Phillips and Ford
  • Sean Savoy: Hold onto the ball. Savoy had a lot of drops last year
  • Phil Patterson: Keep up those crackbacks and take the top off the defense
  • Eric Kumah: Attempt to do his best Bucky impersonation
  • Deshawn McClease: Keep up the quickness, read his blocks and break off a big run
  • Dalton Keene: Become a weapon on the passing game
  • OL: Keep the QB on his feet and not running for his life. As much as we loved the "headless chicken" act our previous QB's executed that was not a real offensive strategy
  • Defense: Do their best to incorporate new and young players at all positions

What say you?

Virginia Tech Football Team: WIN!

I wanna win

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

As one of the few Hokie Raiders fans, Just Win Baby!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Just Win Baby!

The only smart thing Al Davis ever said.

(No! I'm not just following you around talking shit about the raiders. Why would you ask?)

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

A QB with the arm and WR with the speed/route running to take the top off the defense.

"War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”~~Judge Holden

I think the defense will be just fine (In Bud Foster we believe, y'all). The offense should take a step forward.

I'm very curious about our special teams. New kicker, long snapper, and new faces at kick and punt return makes me a bit nervous. Considering how well we did in special teams last year (winning the hidden yardage game most of the time), I feel like this is our biggest wild card, TBH.

Re special teams

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

Kumah isn't 7 feet tall so he can't be like Bucky .

I think he meant the, falling over as soon as you catch it, Bucky

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Fuente: hoisting the ACCCG trophy in December (natty would be saaaweeeet, but baby steps).

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Given the quality of teams at the top of the ACC, that wouldn't be a baby step, that would be Uuuuge.

Clemson is going to be tough this year. Unless there's some absolute resurgence at FSU, I don't see anyone in that division competing with them.

On the Coastal, it's a battle between us and Miami. I look forward to that rivalry game getting back to those good old days Big East showdown type of implications. With the trajectory both teams are on, that should be an interesting battle for the division for the next several years. I worry if our youth in spots might cost us a few games we should win, but it's completely realistic for us to get back to Charlotte this year with the talent we have. QB play on offense and how fast the young talent on defense can get up to speed will decide it.

Anybody else wonder if Fedora under performs again this year if UNC will pull the trigger on him?

Oh - never mind - this is a football post. I was expecting something else from the title. Guess I'll just slide back into the gutter before people start talking tailgating and meat again.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Just because it's a football post doesn't mean you can't hijack it and take some random tangent. Isn't that how we do it?

I ain't scared...

What do I want to see- 5 squat reps at 315
Who do I want to see it from- Me.

Leonard. Duh.

More Cunningham/Keene.

Savoy, get those easy yards by looking the ball in.

More INTs frome defense.

I like your list. I would add DeeliuIIuliuiius to that first one. Looks like he could become a good player quickly.

I'm hesitant to state it, but I'm looking for some improved production from the running game, whether it be by RB's or by an improved OL. I don't have a lot of faith in the RB's, but it can't be any worse than last year and it could be quite a bit better.

nested colons in the title...

JJ - Continue to develop on his great freshman campaign with a growing supporting cast and distribute the ball efficiently. Become more confident in the progressions to get the ball out quicker.

Dalton Keene - Develop into a dominant H-Back. You can see flashes of what he could become as a true freshman. I think he'll be offensive MVP this year.

DeShawn McClease - Keep the momentum from the end of last year and the spring into an effective running game for the first time in a while.

WRs - They were super young last year without a healthy Cam, they need to grow. Reduce drops, and improve on winning contested balls.

Left side of the OL: They are going to be green but if they can produce as well as their potential, this group could be special.

Defense - do what Bud tells you, and please don't make him angry.

More INTs from DBU.

More Ws than last season (esp GagTech, ND & Da U).

Savoy to break out & REALLY step into, solidify leadership+star role.

Agree on less drops from Savoy, but more generally continued development/increased consistency from the receiving corp overall.

Would also like to see minimal drop off from the DL without Big Tim. Glad that Walker is coming back to anchor that group and hopefully Mihota's shoulder cooperates.

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

The correct answer is Emma Watson and anything she wants to show... right?

Careful there. I got in trouble for just wishing her happy birthday.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

It's just such an overused trope here. I don't think it warranted an entire post, but hey i'm just one user.

Since VTGM doesn't has as much time to moderate with his job, it's on the community to self moderate. People shouldn't get upset if that happens on occasion.

Anyway, I upvoted you for any hard feelings you may have, and friendly reminder to people to not downvote based on opinions you disagree with. Signal to noise ratio is just as important though when considering content.

No upvotes necessary, I didn't have any hard feelings, but I will say I was surprised it was in the least perceived in the negatory. Certainly didn't upset me, actually made me laugh. I've been reading this site now for a few years, and figure my post was about as innocuous as could be. Mox nix, brah, I'm good.

I want to see Fuente and especially Cornelson changing their slow-play strategy against GT. Realize that you won't get enough possessions against the bees to enable the establishment of tendencies to pay off later in the game. Come out of the tunnel attacking and take over early. Teams that dominate GT set the tone early instead of waiting for GT to make mistakes late.

Bring in Kyle Fuller to explain how to get into the head of the GT offense.

Yep. This is best.

Yup, this one. Although, I guess it's more of a handshake than a high five.

I want to see Hazelton standing in the end zone with the ball, waiting for everyone else to catch up. Often.

More Realistic hopes: Much improved Offense, surprisingly good D, avoid injuries! Beat GT and make the Miami game a showdown for the division title.

Specific players.... I want Hunter to find a significant role and become a ballhawk and one of the wide receivers to totally blow up

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Not enough coffee to opine yet, but had to pop in and give a leg for proper grammar in the title.

I would like to see a win against Georgia Tech
