Hokies in Vegas

Anybody else making the trip to Vegas this week? I go every year but usually don't meet any other Hokies for our game. Would love to meet up with some of y'all if others will be there. I usually hang out in the Promenade by The Linq but am pretty open to wandering somewhere else.

Yep. I'll be there. Go every year- or at least try to. Be there Thursday AM- Sunday. I like that area- Yard House is money. I'm staying at Luxor. If you want to rendezvous somewhere to catch the game, let me know. Would be cool to cheer with other hokies.

How is the Luxor? I've always been curious.

It's not bad. Very clean, mix of older and younger crowd. Across the street from the higher end restaurants in Mandalay Bay. Good pool, decent casino floor, underwhelming sports book- but gets the job done. Not my absolute favorite but prefer it over planet Hollywood, bally's, flamingo, linq. My favs are Cosmo, Ceasar's, Bellagio

Thanks. I'll check it out one of these days. Only stayed at Caesar's so far.

Caesars is great- great sports book, that get's rocking at the end of games with O/U's and spreads close. I have heard it as loud as an arena in there- very fun times. Granted, it's a bunch of 40-50 something nerdy white guys watching hoops, but still cool. Great food at Caesars too- couple good beer pubs and high end eats too.

That's my demographic, so I fit right in :)

Stayed there once. Wife has fear of heights so going to upper floors was a no go. Had to stay on lower level. Room was pulling in smoke from the casino floor. She was pissed off. Almost divorced over that hotel stay.

#Let's Go - Hokies

I usually spend a lot of Thursday at the Yard House in the promenade. Shoot me an email and we can figure something out. K y a l a m a n @ VT dot edu

Rip his freaking head off!

Sweet- Ill email you. Lets grab a beer and watch VT destroy Bama.

Taking a group friends out for a bachelor's weekend. Will be there Wednesday- Saturday. Staying at the Monte Carlo. Hope to see some Hokies out there!

Monte Carlo is nice- and an underrated sports book- it gets rockin in there for march madness, and they have better prop bets than the Caesars family of casinos- in my experience. You are also right next to the new Arena if you want to catch an NHL game

Just dont talk about bud foster or The Defense around ole DC /s😂

I feed off of nightmares

LOL. I am more chill than you think, especially in person when you can see the sarcasm on my face/joking. It comes off better than type print.

Hell, you're still on TKP despite myself and other cracking jokes at your expense so you can't be that bad.

Or... You've been waiting this whole time for sweet, sweet revenge and deathrow just walked into your vegas honeyhole trap where you hustle him out of millions on fixed bets like "will Buzz wear a cardigan" or "three fouls will be called in first minute and half" or "the cocktail waitress' name is actually Brenda, even though her name tag says Belinda".... You're losing at first hand over fist lulling him into a false sense of security until the final bet for all the marbles "the combined final score will be 135"... Which it is! How could you have known?! Deathrow now fleeced for everything he has... Because he doesn't know your sick, twisted ruse having paid the sportbook to record the game and play it on a 10 minute delay...

Anyway, wish I was there with you guys. Sounds like fun. Well.. Not for deathrow. But live and learn.

It's in a good area. I always stay at Harrahs because it's cheap and I like the Venetian, but the Monte Carlo is a nice area. I posted my email on dcwilsons post above, feel free to shoot me a message if you want to meet up for the game. Pro tip: put your bets in the night before for every day. Those lines for the 9am starts are crazy long.

Rip his freaking head off!

Awesome that sounds great! I plan on downloading the app when I get there to avoid the lines during the day.

Stayed at the Venetian for Bowl Week. Pretty good sports book, chairs were comfortable and the screens are huge. Didn't give a fuck about the tall cans and wine splits we brought from the walgreens. We went to try to watch the woovoo game at harrah's and there was something wrong with their feed/screens/aspect ratios and Mrs. Lwyr and I looked at each other halfway through the second quarter and left before we vommed.

Vegas for march madness is high on my bucket list. Hoping to make it next year when I'm (hopefully) in a different job situation.

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

I hate all of yall.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Me too.

Am I the only one who doesn't know why they are going?

All right. While we're still under a caution, I want you to go back out on that track and hit the pace car.

Hit the pace car?

Hit the pace car!

What for?

Because you've hit every other goddamned thing out there, I want you to be perfect!

If you're a college basketball fan then the first weekend in Vegas is a must. There's nothing quite like it in sports.

Rip his freaking head off!

Oh gamblin. Yeah. The doctor told me I needed to stop.

I've never been a big gambler. The few horse races I've seen are a lot of fun to throw money at, but that's simply because they last all of 2mins long and I don't know jackshit about it. Just makes it more fun for me. If I were to bet on something I feel like I should know, then I lose money on it...boy, that's a sad drink.

I have only been to a few casinos actually. Not a big gambler. Have yet to make it to Vegas. The few times I have gone out I won money so I count myself lucky. Hollywood in WV had horse races and they were fun. But I made the change on Blackjack which is basically all I will play.

Note that during the ncaa tournament they actually charge for seats to watch the games at the sportsbook...expect to pay $100 at Caesars for a seat each day. Don't stay at the luxor stay at the Delano at Mandalay bay...thank me later (the tv's at the book stink though...go to ceasers sportsbook...still the best in town or try the cosmopolitan)

Stayed at Caesars last year. Got lucky for the evening session without a reservation, sat in one of the leather chairs for 3 plus hours drinking IPAs for free. Good Times. Of course I had a bunch of money laid down to get said drinks. Cesars is my second favorite "book" behind Emerils at the Pallazo- leather couches, emerils food, huge screens, place bets 2 feet away. Lovely.

Was there last week for work, at the Venetian watching them blow it against Notre Dame. Guess I was the back luck charm...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"
