GIFTORY: Frame-by-Frame Highlight Reel of Virginia Tech's 10-0 Streak-Extender Against Virginia

It's now 14 in-a-row for the Hokies over the Hoos.

Best linebacker in the ACC.

Fortunate that I never need to endeavour to block Settle or Walker.

🐧

The offense did a thing, through the air even.

The HokieBird knew it was good all the way.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

House foreclosed on 'em.

Brenton Nelson (No. 28) got put.

That feeling when your line gets crossed.

The best part is he slows it down.

Film don't lie.

Smart.

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Part of this is likely because you're only showing the positive plays for the Hokies, but the difference in demeanor between the two teams is pretty striking. Every play there's a Hokie player doing a little dance at the end or just generally looking loose. UVa players mostly only look solemn, with the occasional saltiness.

"Carruthers, my merriment shoes!"

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Most Hoos that I know and interact with are a very SMUG lot most of the time when it comes to all things Blacksburg.

However, the streak has broken their football squad. As soon as the Hokies went up 3-0, they knew.

Leonard. Duh.

It's because it is pretty much all our defense vs their offense. Our defense, not only was dominant physically and mentally, it was dominant emotionally. From the start, they were praising one another after every play and whipping themselves into a frenzy.

Hopefully we can bring that emotion to the offense.

RIP VT win streak 2004 - 2017

I take this as he wanted us to actually relax and rest in peace knowing that our win streak would extend to 2017. Otherwise he would have written 2004-2016.

I thought the same thing! Really wanted to hammer on it but figured hey, its a kid. BUT.....that kid should have some wahoo parents that you'd think would never pass on the chance to proofread their kid's work!!!

This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia.

When you ask a Hoo how they feel about the streak and they bring up their 2003 dressage national championship.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Lol he reminds me of Corey Moore with that facial expression.

Sometimes I like to leave off the /s just to mess with people.

I absolutely love the RIP tombstone sign. It showed/reminded every viewer on national TV of just how ridiculously long the winning streak we have against our "rival" is and it was a perfectly sized VT logo. Excellent advertising 'Hoo's!

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

"Moooommmmm...."

Although her "mans" may be actually trying to holler and support his hoos, I'd love this to be more as him like, awe man my girl done lost her mind.

I hope Quin Blanding gets drafted by the Cowboys so I can root against that clown for the rest of his career

I am going to be that guy. I spent about 6 hours in the film on Saturday night and Sunday. I can't count how many times I saw him come from 12 yards deep on the opposite hash, and make a tackle for a 3 yard gain.

I am thrilled, THRILLED that VT beat UVA. I am thrilled that Kumah put him on his backside. But, that kid is an amazing football player and regularly was doing the job of two defensive players. VT's entire offensive gameplan was to try and direct him away from the actual path of the football.

I don't know what miracles Mendenhall can pull out of his posterior, but the Hoos have a major talent vacuum to overcome after losing Blanding and Kiser. Those were two outstanding football players and frankly I am glad that the Hokies don't have to play them.

I do think this was their shot. When you look at UVA's recruiting and the way some players looked versus their top guys, they are going to have a serious talent drop off next year. Offensively it will be Zaccheaus, Ellis, and Reed- they don't have a vertical threat to compliment those guys. In essence no quarterback option unless Speight transfers in. Hanback, Peace, and Alonso give them a decent front, but their linebacker and safety group is decimated. Corner will be the strength of their team (VT largely stayed away from Hall and Thornhill to attack Nelson and Moore at safety.)

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Wouldn't Speight have to sit out a year?

No. He's a grad xfer. He's also a serious downgrade from Benkert.

No he's doing the graduate transfer thing so can play right away

EDIT: lost by 25 seconds. I'll take my drink happily.

I never met a project that couldn't justify a new tool.

Yeah, I remember when they pulled him and Brown in that recruiting class. From the gun Quin was a baller. I'm happy Brown wasn't able to put it together like he did. Somehow we always seemed to embarrass Quin though on at least one play each year though lol.

the Hoos have a major talent vacuum to overcome after losing Blanding and Kiser.

Blanding and Kiser combined for 36 tackles in last week's game. VT's whole defense had 39 tackles for the game.

I think that also speaks to how gassed their defense must have been at the end after spending pretty much the whole 2nd half on the field. UVA had 92 total tackles to VT's 39 (assisted count more than once so it's a little misleading to just look at total numbers, but still a valid point I think).

That's not a stat I generally pay much attention to, but the discrepancy jumped out at me. You don't even have to look at the offensive numbers to guess that we ran it 50+ times.

VT ran 74 plays from scrimmage (7 incomplete passes) and LOLUVA ran 54 (17 incomplete passes).

maybe a second angle where you can see Motuapuaka waving bye bye from the sideline, perhaps?

If you look closely enough, at the very beginning of the gif blanding swats at Teller at the top of the frame and it looks like Teller is about to square up on blanding (would not want to be looking at teller squaring up on me ever in my life) but then he realizes that there's already a scuffle breaking out and goes to backup mclease instead of following up with blanding.

What kind of dumbass picks a fight with Wyatt Teller?

One that decided to go to UVA.

I don't blame DM for pushing back. Brown was grabbing and pulling on his leg in a way that could have hyper-extended his knee or tore something.

#Hokies

I second this Giftory request. There's so much gold in that play: Hilgart stepping in like a boss, his own player grabbing him by the horse collar and yanking him away, Fuente yelling at McClease, the ref yelling at Brown, Teller going over to McClease and giving him the atta boy while Feunte was yelling at him, me in Section 527 yelling at all the surrounding UVA fans telling them how "classy" their program was after those 2 personal fouls, etc., etc.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

When looking up the UVA players name, I noticed that he and McClease both went to the same high school (Oscar Smith). I'm thinking he was trying to get away with a little ribbing...

Nope, that's a heads up okay make sure the ref sees an opposing player breaking a rule.

Agreed. Dude pushed him, in front of the ref no less. That's a penalty. Falling backwards is just insurance for cashing that 15 yards. In a game like this, a 15 yd penalty is a drive killer.

Leonard. Duh.

I'm not a fan of flopping, think it needs more severe penalties, but as it stands it's a heads up play like you said. This does mean that we can't complain about an opposing player flopping, and you see plenty of that in the game threads when it happens.

It was an after the play push with both hands. He accentuated it by falling to the ground. I'll allow it.

If it's a love tap fall to the ground, even if it got the penalty, I'd be slightly upset by it. Like a kicker falling to the ground when a player puts a finger on their foot...that's a flop.

I love this. I remember seeing this during the game. 5 was walking across the field with his head looking over his shoulder toward the middle of the field, for about 10 yards, and Hill positions himself right in his path. 5 turns his head just in time to run into Hill's chest, and then shoves him. Flop. 15 yard. It was a thing of beauty.

The way I see it, 5 didn't need to shove him. I say if you can capitalize on another teams inability to keep composure, and handle the emotions of the game, do it. 15 yard penalties can be game changers, and seeing more of this, I could argue, would only encourage coaches to focus even more on self control during a game. "Don't allow yourself to be baited." Hokie basketball places a lot of importance on getting to the bonus early to help win games. Why not more of this in VT football. I can't see it ever becoming anything as obnoxious/ridiculous as some soccer penalties.

Too late, I'm afraid.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

I stand corrected, those are ridiculous, and I might have been a bit biased. If not for the proof of my error, thanks for the laughs. Some of those are really funny. First two examples I might be okay with, but instances like the last two would be really aggravating in college football.

Yeah honestly it's usually good for entertainment. I'm a Panthers and Cam Newton fan and that dude plays it up all the time. Again, he does it to draw attention to legitimate fouls, but it's kinda ridiculous and very funny to me.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Edit: Opps Double post

In the first one, 55 could have easily lowered the other arm as he did his left. The hit was light, but he kept that arm out on purpose even seeing the ball was gone.

The last one...is he trying to say he's injured so the clock stops? That's so far away from anybody, and he's surrounded by his own guys. That's just a silly thing...

NBA. Hill thanked Lebron James for teaching him that.

I know football fans don't want to admit it... but as a fan of both sports, football is closing the gap on flopping prevalence awful quick. As others have said, it's often to ensure the refs notice when something has happened, which is what the majority of soccer flops are as well. I don't love it, but I get it.

Gaines' false start dance is my new favorite dance

Gaines and Hill are a trip. I love that they are gonna be starting next season (is Vinny a senior?). They are slim, so probably will suffer a bit in run defense, but we are gonna get the QB a whole lot next year. If Settle and Walker come back (I think they will) we will have a terrific front 4 for next season.

I never met a project that couldn't justify a new tool.

I agree and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Gaines supplants Mihota as the starter. Maybe French will get on me for thinking that, but Mihota hasn't been as much of a playmaker as Gaines has this year.

From what I understand, Vinny is less of a playmaker and more of a consistent run stopping beast.

The slow-mo was life affirming.

Lost in Eric Kumah's mushing of Quin Blanding is his previous stiff-arm of Juan Thornhill on the same play.

Add in Jalen Holston's denial of Brenton Nelson and it was a rough tackling day for the Hoo secondary.

I was trying to find out what time/quarter it was but I was far to drunk to remember the order of things but the LOLUVA moment of the 3rd down draw where the HB gets the ball and falls flat on his face made me laugh pretty hard.

...or the offsides penalty on Dowling where he just kinda falls down.

Something I noticed this game was that JJ seemed to do this more often, like he had to start the season. In the prior 4-5 games, he seemed to hold onto the ball longer and take a sack. This game he throw it out more often, which helped in our field position battle.

Was hoping for the gif on the no call double holding in the end zone on our 2 D linemen

you mean judo take down of our DL?

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

I'm beginning to hear #marinades that Josh Jackson might have played the last few games of the season with a stress fracture in his foot and a bum shoulder. Might have happened in the Miami game.

If this is the case, goes a long way into explaining the play of the team the last few weeks.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

I posted this thought on another threads so forgive me if it is redundant.

I think QBs like Jackson who regress over a season are likely suffering from an injury. He doesn't seem to me to be mentally rattled (so I've seen suggestions that he is). He still makes good decisions and even with the pick in the UVA game has played pretty well for a rFr QB.

I wonder why. It doesn't sound like an injury that requires surgery. You would think it would be better after a month off.

It depends. My understanding is that a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal almost always requires surgery, whereas a stress fracture in the other four usually don't. I had a stress fracture on my third metatarsal caused by marathon training (two weeks before my race 🙄). Four weeks in a walking boot and I was able to ease back into training. So hopefully JJ, as a highly conditioned athlete, will be just fine once the bowl game rolls around!

He hurt his throwing hand in the Miami game (TV showed him on sidelines working on it). His throws seem to have been a little off ever since. Under/over throws, behind the receiver, etc... Probably could look at stats through the last three games to see if they were down.

#Hokies

What about a gif of the no call PI on Kumah and then Narduzzi getting pissed at the ref?
