this is what I was complaining about in our loss to UNC. Liberty is doing exactly what we should have done. Slow playing the clock, limiting possessions.
I just have this feeling that VT is going to go 3-and-out and start the game in a 14 point hole. I'll never understand why Fuente always defers when we win the toss. I would much rather start with our strength on the field and use that to set the tone. We just gave Liberty that opportunity and they took it. I don't like the way this game feels already....

It just makes no sense. Out DTs take on blocks (sometimes two). Then our LBs fill the same hole or attack a blocker that's already engaged. Then there is no one to even attempt a tackle. Either the DTs are supposed to shoot gaps or the Lbs are supposed to fill.
I have no idea what our defensive philosophy in the box is. But the dts get blown up and the linebackers get lost. I think having more control over the line would 1) create better disruption and 2) especially allow the linebackers to actually read the play.
I played linebacker in high school and we had similar issues where our line was undersized and constantly got blown back into my face. Makes it impossible to read anything
