Good luck to Ashby. He was a really good fit in Bud Foster's system. He struggled this year in a system where the DL wasn't keeping him as clean, and the adjustment where he was having to jam the A gap to keep the backer clean had to wear on him.
It will be interesting to see if this means Dax Hollifield moves over to the field side linebacker next year while Tisdale becomes the guy on the boundary.

I guess the potential extra year of eligibility creates some need for this kind of announcement.
Thanks for everything Ashby. His 2019 season in particular was great. I hope the best for him in as he tries to make it in the NFL and anything he chooses to do after football.
Safe money would have Dax move into that Mike role, which is a more natural fit for his skillset.
Still criminal that he was 5x LB of the week in the ACC and didn't make first team.
Kind of shocked by this one. Thought he could use the extra year to excel in the system and raise his stock. He was really out of shape this year (not his fault, understand he didn't have access to equipment during the shutdowns). Hope he makes the draft. He's all ballplayer.
He's a ball player yes, but is too small to play Mike in the modern nfl. He would have been too small after another year too. He might be able to catch on special teams somewhere though
Even at minimum rookie salary ($610k), that's a damn fine way to start one's post-college life. Good for him.
We could have really used his experience next year. NFL will be a tough make. Now we see if Hewitt will leave. We just seem to lose so often on these types of things, while guaranteed nfl players decide to stay at Clemson. The Dabo Jedi mind trick (winning) will get after ya. π€¦π»ββοΈ
Are we still rolling?
This is an elite example of a lame and weak comment that qualifies as "noise". One of the most productive players we've had on defense in recent memory is declaring for the draft and you just want to moan about the state of the program? Good grief

Thank you, oh kind Thread Overlord. I'm glad we have you here to tell us what can and can't be posted.
lol come on man do better. This is stupid and lacks nuance. You wanna dump on recruiting? On the field losses? Fine. But it's myopic and lame to have such a monolithic and narrow view of the program to the point where you want to use a player electing to go pro as evidence for your view.
I loved watching him play because of how tough he was. Ashby was Hokie through and through. I know he's not the pro typical NFL linebacker, but I hope he gets a shot because he has definitely worked his ass off at tech and was snub bed when he didn't get first team ACC. Some team is gonna get a steal if they give him a shot.
I hope he catches on and sticks. Best of lluck. Another year of college was probably not going to make the difference either way, so this is a good decision. Did he graduate? I didn't read the article, I hope that he did.
Hope he gets drafted and balls out at the next level! Next level toughness, grit, and dedication. His production over the last few years has been unrivaled and I've always felt he never got the deserved amount of recognition at the conference level
Goodluck, hopefully he can at least make a practice squad and work his way to special teams and eventually a 2nd team role.
Can we move Dax inside and have Tisdale outside and Conner at whip? I think that would be a good lineup right there.
It was fun watching Ashby be an absolute BEAST in 2019. It was clear covid hurt his conditioning in 2020. I think he can recover from that in the off-season to get back to 100% for the next level
We can't even keep the support players who could help us.
With the way Fuente is recruiting, he MUST keep players around long term who can help the program. Seems we often write off guys who transfer or leave early as non developers or malcontents instead of questioning why they didn't develop or why they aren't content. Ashby gas virtually no pro option but could really help our team next year if he was in shape.
Good luck to him, go and chase it. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like Jerod
This is more like McClease than Evans, Ashby has been here 5 years and would have exhausted his eligibility without covid.
Agreed - 4 years, but true none the less.
Did I count wrong? Hmm ...
Never redshirted - true senior this year.
Good luck to Rayshard. I've always thought of Ashby as a great college player who won't translate to the pros becuase of limited athleticism. But I hope we succeeds. He sure was great to watch in Blacksburg.
Love Ashby. Thanks for being a Hokie! Best of luck!
