If your center and QB are used to snapping from under center, you don't do it on a 4th an 1. Its a recipe for a fumbled snap.
That doesn't matter on 4th and short. It's a turnover on downs if you don't convert. There is no reason the offense can't practice a package of 2 or 3 simple plays from under center that have a much higher conversion rate.
I like aggression/trusting the offense, but defense finally got a stop. I would have liked field goal there. Our inside run has not looked good either.

They look awake and like they really, really want it. We look asleep.
They are attacking at every facet of the game. We are playing timid.
BB needs to trust his protection better even though it hasn't been great.
Play calling has been 'meh' at best, but part of that could just be the difference in intensity and therefore play by the teams on the field.

CONSISTENCY is the only word VT needs to focus on right now. We can't be knocking off more highly-ranked teams one week and looking like a tightly-coiled pile of dog shit in the next. I'd be so much happier if it we consistently looked like a top 50 team week to week....not #15 one week and #113 the next!
We need to look at Jafar Williams if our WRs cannot get any separation at all or if the plays are there, put in Kadum to sling it around. Something has to change with this offense.

Been saying it all week but didn't expect it to be this bad. It's everything I thought would go wrong plus the bad redzone possessions and refs letting the WVU line getting away with holding all day long (have to expect that).
Even with the mistakes there's no excuse for game not being 17-17 right now. We spotted them 14, looked like we thought we were playing Middle Tennessee.
The players on offense are not physical and motivated enough to effectively execute this game plan. The game plan isn't even that bad. The offense just looks like Duke with a better QB, lack of energy and urgency. Run blocking has been horrible as I pointed out last week

Sorry, had to come back with 1 other thought on Fu. Guessing what happens in the second half will be telling for the rest of the year. If we fold up and die losing by >30, expect the team to quit and we end up with the 6-6 or 7-5 record I was expecting. Actually put up some fight, make a game of it and, even if we lose by 7 or 10, will have some hope that this was just a bad game. Guess I should stick with it and keep watching too.

When looked at as a whole, this game is another where we look overall:
1. Smaller
2. Significantly weaker
3. Slower
This is what causes my "meh" for the program because I know in the back of my head we will lose to the Pitt's of the world because they play tough. I also know that games will always be close when we "should" win by a lot. Third, I know that we do not have the stamina and toughness to make comebacks and that we will likely fade in second halves to P5 teams.
The DL is largely getting manhandled.
They are small and have zero depth. When they played their asses off against UNC, we got overconfident.
But they need help from the Offense...and when you have Brad Cornelson as your help...you probably wanna go ahead and say your goodbyes
Agreed, and for my observations, I'm making those on both sides of the ball. It's easier to see in our DL, but it also feels like we never get that push from the O line forward or fall forward, it feels like every defense is told to just run full tilt and tackle our players head-on and we will go flying backwards. Defensive players never look afraid to get run over when playing us - which is when you should use their momentum against them, but our play calls for this suck and/or are almost never executed (our screens seem to get sniffed out far more often than not).
