TKP - Gamer's Lounge - Autumn 2021 edition

Fall is the best time for gaming, 4 hour trip back from a football games, the switch has you covered. Post game celebratory Halo matches, yup! I didn't like the outcome of the VT game so I'll score 103 against Bama in NCAA 14 to make myself feel better, you betcha.

But if you're like me and want to feel like you're in college again Diablo 2 is back! I'm pretty sure I graduated a full letter grade lower in college because of this game.

Finally got my hands on a PS5. Just getting in to Ghost of Tsushima.

Fantastic game. In my Top 3 PS4 games.

I'm 10 hours in now and having a blast. I waited for the PS5 version to get the best combination of frame rate and graphics. Sound design is excellent too.

I've been an XBox guy since the first generation, but I am seriously considering switching to PS5 when I can find one just for the new Horizon: Zero Dawn game. Played the first one finally when out visiting my brother over the summer and loved every second of it.

EVGA changed 3000 series card queue policy yesterday so now accounts that haven't made a purchase from a queue get preferred status. All this to say I might be able to get a 3070 by the end of the year, still have another month of queue time to get through.

With every passing day I'm thankful I got into the 3060 queue at release. I was also wondering why I hadnt gotten any other notifications yet on the other cards I was listed for but now I know why! Keep your head up your turn will be here before you know it!

I love the optimism, but...

EVGA has let me down this year, and because of it I jumped shipped back to AMD. Granted, a lot of their issues were outside of their control, but the lottery system and zero progress after a year just left me pissed off at them.

EVGA doesn't have a lottery system just the queue system, which is pretty much the only mfg that has a proper queue system and not a lottery like newegg does every day.

I'm also not in dire need of a gpu, I have a 1070 that I still use in my gaming system. I don't have the time or energy to chase gpu drops or camp out in front of Best Buy, so EVGA's queue has been just fine for me. Granted it's been slow moving but that is outside of EVGA's control at the moment. Also I've been pretty realistic about not getting my hopes up on a time frame for when I can purchase a 3070.

Lottery was my poor choice of a word. I definitely realize that it's a queue. A queue I apparently didn't get on fast enough and now I'm a year in without any progress. I did myself a favor and invested (on a major splurge, spur of the moment) in an RX 6700... my cares about a new card dwindled especially as the prices continued to climb and scarcity persisted.

The just changed the queue and now theyre prioritizing customers who have yet to get a card and only letting you queue for 2 cards at a time so I'd expect things to clean up a bit in the next few weeks. I personally really like to see EVGA doing something more customer friendly than just selling randomly like all other producers.

How do I actually get an XBOX, PS5 or RTX card?

Stockx appears to be the place with the best prices even though they are all scalped.

Newegg has the series s xbox in stock right now.

Follow twitter accounts that give warnings when they go live and turn your notifications on. That's how I got a heads up to get my PS5 back in February.

I specifically followed @PS5StockAlerts when I got it, but there are a few others. Specifically, I know @mattswider, who is the Editor of TechRadar, has significantly grown his following by giving heads up as well over the past year.

This is how I got mine. Got lucky one morning when Target added inventory at 7:30. Had to drive about 30 miles to get to the store to pick it up.

Wario64 is good too

Man I have been hooked badly by sim racing during COVID. I've always liked it, but between GT Sport on the PS4, Forza Horizon on PC, and F1 2020/21 on PS5, the bug has hit me hard to the point where I now am awaiting delivery on a Thrustmaster wheel/pedal set and just got a foldable cockpit delivered so that we can store it away when my wife doesn't want to see it anymore.

Did you know there are full on organized leagues for sim racing? A guy I used to board game with through COVID got into F1 racing in the reddit league.

Oh yeah, its actually getting huge. McLaren has a team of sim racers called McLaren Shadow Project that has their training sims in the McLaren Technology Centre. They often get Lando Norris in there to have some fun with them during training, who himself actually launched a sim racing (though more content creation and not full on eSports) called Team Quadrant that has a few well known YouTubers (Aarava and SuperGT).

I love sim racing, but haven't had a wheel in 10 years. I decided to get back into it for real and I have a Fanatec CSL DD on order, but they keep pushing out the ship date. At this point I am hoping for by Christmas.

anyone play any blockchain-based games? like axie infinity, or decentraland?

i have thought about investing in those next time the crypto market crashes, but not being a gamer myself, i am not sure how popular blockchain games are, or how fast they are growing

I read the words and dont understand, what is a block chain game? It sounds like a company needed investor funding and put block chain in front to get them to bite.

EDIT: after reading what ggc posted i went down a Wikipedia hole and now more than ever I believe the block chain post is to secure investor funding. I still don't understand the game.

When I looked into it, it looked like it would cost over $1k just to start playing with the most basic characters

Metroid Dread releases on Friday and the review embargo ended this morning. Reviews are very favorable in the 9/10 range.

Seems like it sticks to the 2D Metroid formula for the most part which should please most. Glad it still holds up after recent games like Hollow Knight and Ori have entered the market.

Release that soon? Either I wasn't paying attention to release dates or time is flying for me right now.

It looks like Dread did the correct formula for a great Metroid game based on reviews:

1. Explore and look everywhere for upgrades/more inventory/etc.

2. Have a foe that makes blood pressure go up from fear and have to think while being quick on your feet getting away from it when first see it (thank you Metroid Fusion).

3. Not be made by Ninja Theory, it isn't DoA or Ninja Gaiden.

Edit because just starting playing Dread:

It feels like a Metroid game and the E.M.M.I. gets my heart pumping like a survival horror game.
Right now my main complaint is that I can change control settings, it's not bad just not used to where they map certain buttons.

Edit Edit:
Beat Dread with 100% items found in almost 12 hours, putting it near top of all Metroid games, just under Fusion and Prime (those two I consider the top tier Metroid games). Not letting the player change control settings is my big complaint.

Just started dread tonight after GameStop botched my preorder and I am loving it. Getting to experience a Metroid game with modern graphics is spectacular. I never knew how bad I wanted a modern side scrolling Metroid, I was so caught up in prime 4 hype.

Quasi related: If you're on Twitch, consider changing password, enabling 2FA, and resetting your stream key.

I bought Deathloop for PS5 last week. at first, i thought it was going to be too repetitive having to kill the same bosses over and over to upgrade your abilities, but once you get the Shift ability and a couple decent weapons saved, it's more detective work and a lot less grindy.

I've seen a lot regarding that game but I still really don't understand, and am hesistant to get it.

Without spoilers, what's the story and gameplay? I never even tried Returnal because the repetitive nature just did not resonate at all with me. With Deathloop, is there a story that you can effectively build out across every reset? Do you lose abilities and upgrades with each reboot?

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

You play as Colt and you're trying to break the loop, and there's a girl named Joanna trying to keep it intact. only you too remember anything after the loop resets. to break the loop, you have to kill all of the Visionaries in a single day, but they're scattered. You're basically replaying the day over and over learning more and more about the Visionaries and eventually trying to change events throughout the day to get them all in one place at the same time.

You gain guns and abilities and then earn "infusion points." Once something is infused, you get to keep it for the next loop. It's pretty easy to farm infusion points and keep most of the stuff that you want.

Hoping I can get my hands on an XBOX X this fall for the "kids" as more inventory becomes available because "they" love Halo and the Assassins' Creed Series and they have not played the Viking one yet because they wanted to wait for the 4k.

Honest question. Have you considered maybe just getting a gaming PC or laptop?

I ask because I bought an MSI last year with graphics output that is basically in line with the PS5/XBSX, with the previous gen (I think its a RTX 2060 or 2070). With XBox Game Pass, I'm able to basically play everything that I would normally play on the XB, which has effectively made it unnecessary to get the new system.

Also, AC: Valhalla is a grind and a half. I stopped playing it because it got quite repetitive.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I bit the bullet about a month back and got the S instead of waiting for the X. If you don't absolutely need 4K I'd strongly recommend considering.

I...er the kids don't need 4k, just want. It's probably best that we don't have one right now. Kids and wife back in school and working from home 4 days a week it would be too much temptation to goof off...

Just downloaded Diablo 2 Resurrected last night for the PS5. Holy mother of god what a blast from the past. Can't believe it's on consoles. It's weird with a controller but I love having it on my 70" vs my tiny pos laptop. The fiancé isn't happy at all...

Jack Bauer fears no one. Except Xavier Adibi.

Pissed about not getting your attention, or that you willingly gave money to Blizzard after all the recent revelations?

What're your thoughts? I loved 3 and sunk wayyyy to much time into it and the wife and I were looking for another coop to play and this looked decent.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

the controls with a controllers are a bit less refined. I keep getting stuck on stuff, didn't happen in 3. But it's a very minor issue. I had to make my main attack R1 to stop picking up all the bolts or arrows or fum. pots.

The added respec fixes a major issue i had with d2, but you only get 3 respecs easily, there is a grindy way for more.

The main issue which was a hugh complaint I had years ago (and had forgot) is lack of diversity in builds. Barb doesn't have a viable hell build, most builds are caster builds that all use the same gear. You need an enigma. You need mara's. All builds are enough str, some but little dex, no energy and everything in vitality. FHR and FCR and the breakpoints are super important.

Shared loot still sucks

If you've never played its definitely a good idea to play. Its less build dependant than D3 though nightmare, some endgame builds can use blue items too. So its more than just grab sets or unique.

I'm having fun playing again. It's really a fun game, having resists on enemies and boss in levels make a better atmosphere of oh shit I have to run away.

Awesome thanks for the info I will probably pick it up in a few weeks when I'm back home and where I can play a bit. I loved D3 on console and played countless hours all the way up in difficulty and loved all the builds range and melee. I didnt play D2 back in the day when it came out since I didnt have anything at the time to play it on so this will be a fun chance to enjoy it.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

If you pick it yup, or really for anyone, they added a shared stash feature that didn't exist, what they don't tell you is that each page has its own gold stash. I kept getting confused as my gold amounts would not make sense.

Edit: fixed month old autocorrect

I just want a new Elder Scrolls game........it's been 10 years

You not counting ESO?

I love ESO and have played regularly since it's launch on PC but it isn't scratching my elder scrolls itch. It is a solid MMO and well worth it if that's your thing.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Best I can do is a nother Skyrim remake

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Well it wouldn't be elder if they released one every couple of years /s

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I mean, it is technically announced. They did the Elder Scrolls 6 announcement just to get people to stop asking if there would be one. Bethesda has been remarkable productive in those 10 years too. A failed Fallout 76, multiple Doom and Wolfenstein launches, Prey, ESO, Deathloop, Rage 2, and Quake Champions. I have the strong suspicion that they just want to let it bake. In the same way Skyrim came out and was revolutionary for the time, I think they want to nail that for ES6 and then support it for a 10 year life cycle.

A Costco in Cincinnati had a bunch of Xbox Series X in stock even though everything online told me otherwise. Call your stores to see if they have them, you might get lucky.

I've been playing the BF2042 Beta and might be canceling my preorder...has anyone else played? Was hoping for something at least somewhat similar/upgraded to BF4...feels like I got a cell phone game, instead.

I literally cannot fly a helicopter and I was great at it in previous BFs, they also feel like they're weightless in the times that I've tried. (*edit: the inability to fly is a controls issue, they have the pitch/yaw on same stick and my brain will not allow that to function after years of having it different, so if they add more controls, I think 'Veteran,' that should help, but it does not exist right now.) The gun play feels like toys (recoil is weird) and I find it extremely difficult to aim and do not like that everything aims perfectly down middle of screen rather than having a bit of zoom and the gun on your right shoulder. The one map they have feels wide open and random. It's also insanely buggy and clipping is some of worst I've ever seen in my life, but hopefully they can work that stuff out...or delay some more.

Essentially, to me, this does not feel like Battlefield at all. Seems more like those free sandbox games that so many people like, like PubG and the other more popular one whose name I can't think of at the moment. Zero interest in playing those...I got this Series X specifically for BF, really not happy about it. Hopefully a good CoD comes out and maybe I can find some fun in Halo again. Might be back to playing BF4 on the new console...🤷‍♂️

Halo insider so far has been fun. I think most of the weapons need a slight tweak though. BR feels good, the AR is what it is, the rest are a bit underwelming, but nothing that can't be fixed. The biggest issues are that vehicles are worthless. The ghost is better than the warthog, but it is so weak that you're never in it long, and its not like there are tons of power weapons to kill it.

My friend who has played the BF beta basically echoed your thoughts calling it virtually unplayable.

You might want to check out the game Splitgate. It's Free To Play online multiplayer that is like a straight up clone of Halo but also adds in Portals. I started playing it last week and thought it was tons of fun.

Yeah, another thing with BF2042, I can't hit the broad side of a barn with these guns - I think this goes back to my issue with the sights. I was a 1.75-1.90 k/d ratio player most of the time in the other BFs, I'm lucky if I'm 0.65 in this one.

Maybe I'm just old and this is what kids play now? But BF4 wasn't *THAT* long ago...

I'm 99% now canceling my preorder.

AND ANOTHER THING lol

Outside of maybe the main tank shell, the vehicle weapons are essentially worthless. The helicopter missiles seem to work, but alas, completely uncontrollable.

Edit: also, damage against vehicles with rockets seems way off. Unguided rockets against helicopters and planes have taken more than 2 hits (should be 1) as I've somehow managed to hit the same transport plane twice w/ unguided and it just flew away after. Also shot a jeep with unguided rocket, people in the jeep survived and it was fine...everything is off.

This game really sucks.

I was about to show a game that personally I think is better than BF and CoD by miles was Squad or Hell Let Loose. Don't know if you have a PC because Squad is only on PC, but HLL has a console version.

Squad has a great Star Wars mod called Galactic Contention where it's what Battlefront should have been (shit EA one, not the good classic Battlefront).

I'm surprised it's a free PS+ game now since it official released (got out of Steam Early Access) this past July, would think they would wait about a year before doing a free deal since it's an Indie game.

I managed to pick up a slightly used GTX 2060 (to replace my AMD 7850) for under MSRP and started playing FarCry 5. Lots of fun so far and I'm looking forward to picking my way through my Steam backlog. It's fun playing games on Ultra graphics level again.

I was just in the Scottsdale mall with the kids and walking by one of those Amazon 4-Star stores, and in the front display they had an Series X and a PS5. Bought em both, been looking for ages, and literally stumbled upon both. I wasn't even going to be getting a PS5 but thought why not.

Did you buy a lottery ticket after that cause you should have after that.

I have Game Pass, and decided to download Forza Horizon 5 on release date and installed it on my HDD because my SSD was close to full. Even just playing through the prologue I kept getting "streaming errors" where I was driving faster than the game could load the world ahead of me. Never before in my life have I encountered a gaming situation where my performance bottleneck was at my storage device, and it was a very strange feeling.

A year ago I remember scoffing at the whole "every game must be on the SSD" requirement for the latest consoles, because really how important is it to have no loading screens, but now I guess I get it because it allows the developers to build the games from the ground up intending to be run from an SSD. It's still kind of a blessing and a curse, because while they can now games with literally no sharp transitions from one location to another it means that to enjoy current games there is yet another semi-major purchase to be made.

In any case, I now have a 2TB Samsung SSD, and finally got Windows and all of my major apps set back up on it, and FH5 runs flawlessly. Y'all should give it a shot if you have the right equipment (PC with 110GB free on an SSD, or an XSS or XSX).

I have 2 1TB M.2 SSDs, 1 for games 1 for the OS. NAS as backup. With FIOS I don't worry about having games I haven't played in awhile on the HD, just wipe old ones and redownload when I get an urge to play again.

FH5 is a fun game but still has a decent # of bugs, I have Fanatec CSL DD & Pedals hopefully arriving today so I'll be playing tons of driving games over the next month.

Yeah their servers have been struggling. Disconnects were plaguing me when I was playing last week, and the parts where it just stops you in the middle of a freerun is annoying. They also didn't really optimize it very well for a PC, I had to disable my GPU balancer just to get it to load up, and the graphics aren't loading properly for me, and I get scenic textures that just fail to load in, as well as some pretty bad pop-in at times. I have a RTX 2070 SUPER, which I know isn't the best, but should be comparable to the XSX, and it just isn't really holding up to what it should be capable of, and it has to be software issues.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I actually take back what I said earlier. The game is an absolute joke right now on PC. Completely unable to get it to load up and start right now without crashing back to desktop, Playground Games has made an absolute mess of things.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I played for a few hours earlier today, and it was perfectly fine until I tried to mod a car, at which point it crashed to desktop.

I'll probably give it a few days and see if their upcoming patch fixes things.

I have been having some random crashes, especially when using the wheel. TBH, the wheel isn't great for this type of game so after a couple of days playing with it I went back to controller while playing FH5.

The wheel is awesome for games like Dirt and Assetto Corsa.

I've been using the wheel just fine in FH5 so far. It's obviously a completely different beast than the games you listed and other sim racers, but still handles pretty well, and different cars drive very different with it.

Not a fan of Forza (nothing against it, just not a racing sim gamer), but good to know... Helps me better justify the investment I made when I built my newest PC in the spring, and decided to spring for dual NVMe2 PCIe 4 drives, which I then setup in RAID 0... It. Is. Fast.

anyone get the Skyrim 10th year editions? it's got a bunch of mod content? idk if I'm willing to pay $20 for it since I have the special edition. But I did start a game last night and forgot how easy it was to get immersed in that world

Isn't the upgrade free with the special edition already owned?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

The Anniversary Edition costs $50, and includes the Special Edition and the Anniversary Upgrade. If you own the Special Edition, you can buy the Anniversary Upgrade by itself for $20.

So tried to play it today and didn't notice it actually cost 20$ so yeah I won't be playing that. I'm done buying Skyrim plugs and supporting this method. Bethesda need to pull Todd Howard's head out of his ass and they need to make new games. I love elder scrolls and fallout but the rehash of Skyrim is and has been a dead horse to me.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I mean, the main difference between the Anniversary Upgrade and most of the other tweaks and changes over the years is that this one actually includes new content not found in older versions. The caveat to that is, the "new content" is simply the collection of content from the Creation Club, a system they had where they hired some modders to create curated semi-official content that was sold individually as DLC. So now, instead of spending over $100 to get all of the Creation Club content, you can get it all as a bundle for only $20.

Still probably not worth it, though, considering the vast amount of completely free mods that can add just about anything you could imagine to the game.

I would agree and being that I play on PC there are plenty of mods that are similar and I've played survival and fishing and farming and all the extra stuff all at max graphics so its a moot upgrade to me. On console I could see it but PC not so much. If they would refresh morrowind or oblivion I might consider but I would really like to see them develop something fresh.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Super late to the party but gave Surviving Mars a try today, that's a fun game.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

The radio in that game is probably the best part about it. Makes putting in hours at a time super easy.

I played it a ways back, built my colony up to a few dozen people, but kinda got bored before I really accomplished anything major. Not sure if I was missing something, but it got a bit repetitive after a while.

Tried to get a PS5 during the target drop this morning. Got as far as having one in my cart. Then had a myriad of errors pop up. Then it was gone. So goes it 🤷‍♂️

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I didn't enjoy the first 1-2 hours in Forza Horizon 5 but made a few changes in the settings and find it a lot more enjoyable.

The default steering deadzone using a controller made every car feel like driving a boat. Reducing the deadzone made the cars feel much more responsive.

Also turned off the driving lines except for braking. I found myself just blindly following the blue line a lot which took my engagement level down.

And then I started racing in first person view to up the immersion.

Been playing with a Logitech wheel and it feels really good without any serious tweaks. I will say that I left the blue line on simply because it's really easy to get lost on the cross-country courses without it, and even sometimes on actual roads.

Nothing officially confirmed, though.

I would expect it to be a timed exclusive. Release on Xbox/PC on day 1, and release on PS5 a year later. That way you still provide incentive to use Xbox services, but they still get the sales to those fully entrenched in the PlayStation ecosystem eventually, especially since there are Elder Scrolls fans in all areas of the gaming spectrum. Otherwise, that's a lot of potential revenue they're throwing away.

Considering that Microsoft owns Bethesda, why would they not make it exclusive and try to force big fans with one of the most hyped games to have to buy their hardware and software?

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

Because of the extra revenue. The same reason that both major console players are playing much nicer with the less-threatening Nintendo recently, and the same reason that Sony has started releasing some games on Windows after some period of PS4/PS5 exclusivity (though only on third-party storefronts like Steam).

None of these companies make money on the consoles themselves, and if anything they take a small loss up-front in exchange for expected profit going forward through software sales. Once they release their game on their own proprietary hardware, well before a year has passed they will have nearly maximized profit on their own system and could release on their competitor's system to tap into a new market.

I highly doubt that they would announce a plan to do so ahead of time, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see it happen. It still encourages most dedicated fans to buy an Xbox (or a Windows PC) so they can play the game at release, but it also gives Microsoft access to established fans of the series who are unwilling to buy into the Xbox ecosystem. Win-win.

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that there is a lot more potential future revenue for Microsoft by "making" people adopt their hardware and ecosystem/Gamepass/Ultimate in the long run vs. opening this to Playstation users in the shorter term or ever.

Its not really that much of a hypotehtical. Plenty of Playstation exclusives that have been out for years and will not be showing up on XBox anytime soon. The revenue forecasts have been vetted. Just look at Skyrim 10 years on. You think Microsoft won't capitalize on the next super hyped TES game as an exclusive for as long as possible?

Timed exclusivity is still a huge deal in the gaming industry. A huge majority of a major game's revenue comes from the first few weeks after launch, after which it quickly slows to a trickle. Timed exclusivity is a way to incentivize purchases on your own hardware and services while simultaneously leaving the door open for those who refuse to do so, which is why various companies have spent great amounts of money on locking down timed exclusivity windows for various games.

Yes, it would be unprecedented for Microsoft to release a game on Sony hardware. But until fairly recently, it was unprecedented for one of the major first-party developers to release a game on PC, and now both Microsoft and Sony have made it commonplace.

And, hell, we've already seen a first-party Sony game released on Xbox Game Pass with MLB The Show. Granted, there were extenuating circumstances, namely the MLB putting their foot down and requiring it as a condition of Sony's continued ownership of the license agreement, but I think that instance has opened a lot of eyes within the industry and am interested to watch how that affects future game releases.

Edit to add: all of that is to say that I firmly believe that Microsoft is open to experiment with various release models within the modern gaming landscape, and that Elder Scrolls 6 will provide the perfect opportunity for them to do so.

Anyone been playing the Halo Infinite multiplayer beta? I suck at FPS these days, but it definetely gives me those old school Halo vibes.

Its so good I played a bit last night forgot how much fun sniping is in Halo it felt so good to snipe with the pistol and sticky guys.

So halo infinite MP is fun as can be. The wife yelled "F$@#" when she heard the halo theme blasted on the surround stereo last night knowing when I get into Halo I melt into the couch. Getting my first sticky kill last night felt sooooooooo damn good.

First round on Halo Infinite was Oddball. Lost 0-2. My random teammates held the ball for a grand total of 0:00 seconds while I had nearly 2 minutes. Grr.

Anyone interested in getting some TKP rounds going? I'm on staycation mode until after Thanksgiving.

Add my Gamertag, its just AZHokie22.

I'm not very good (being almost 40 is starting to kick in), but would be happy to play with folks

Halo Infinite feels really smooth. Feels very Halo 3ish.

The playlist thing right now is a bit odd, not a huge fan of CTF or Oddball. Conquest and Team Slayer feel pretty good.

Praetor1982 for me, I'll add you guys.

Movement feels good, but I miss the dash.

The vehicles don't feel great. Ghost is the best. The rocket hog thing is disappointing, I dont understand why direct hits don't kill some one.

Lots of the weapons suck. And so far not a fan of the weapons changing every time you play a map.

EDIT: whom ever decided you should deposit your seed is immature and it brings out the 13 year old in me.

The two hit kill for the shotgun is really annoying. The AR buff is good. There is some kind of rifle (not the BR) where the recoil seems to aggressive.

The absence of collision mechanics and friendly fire seems like a big oversight. It makes it more difficult to tell where players are in CQB.

Not a huge fan of the game type randomization in quick play.

The AR buff is insane, it's some how a long distance weapon.

The commander is the weapon you're talking about, I think. I am not sure about it, but one of my friends hates it with a passion.

As for game type randomization at least its not Halo 5s were gonna make you play CTF and never give you control.

So played a bunch the last few days and so far all but the tank vehicles suck as gunships. As fast battering death traps they al lwork well and the ghost is the best for splatter kills I spend most big team matches just ramming people with the ghost as the guns are like wet noodles.

The guns are mostly good the commander machine gun is weird as shit like its meant to be a long range machine gun but with recoil of a fucking .50 BMG that hits like a train that guns useless. The two hit energy shotty is lots of fun like a boltcaster in star wars and once you get the hang of the two shot its awesome.

Love big team, oddball and CTF are all fantastic.

We played a bunch of Fiesta last night and I need to figure out some of the weapons. The one that is like a weak incinerator cannon I just don't understand I hit some one 4 times and they didn't die so whats the point?

The energy weapons are all weird as hell. The sniper one is kinda decent but takes two hits to kill at range vs the normal sniper which is way better. Standard USMC weapons are OP and thats about it so far except the commando is trash.

cindershot is the bomb

also why bring back the sentinel beam?

Feel free to add me on Live as well: WoogieMonsterVT. Have a few VT alums that I play with.

I dont think I've seen the cindershot yet honestly, been in odd ball most of the time with some big team mixed in.

Anyone xbox or PC feel free to add me GT: Titilywink

Setinel beam is worthless beyond worthless.

Anyone else here play Ghost Recon Breakpoint? the new Operation Motherland update is legit. Pretty much adds in all of the stuff that everyone wanted at launch and makes it feel much more like a GR title should.

Had a ton of fun playing it when I got it on sale last year, but haven't touched it since last winter. I'll have to check out the update.

Its definitely worth it in my opinion. It's like a totally new game with the updates they've put out.

Been loving the Halo Infinite multiplayer, feels like old Halo with a decent amount of QoL changes. Even tried out ranked to see what I get place (Gold V).

Though that has been split time with trying to play with a group for Hell Let Loose, finished Tales of Arise, and now trying out Shin Megami Tensei V since I liked the Persona games and seeing what the main SMT series is like.

Catching back up now that I'm being more active - happy I snagged both a PS5 and Series X during the early fall. Currently working through Tales of Arise, then have Metroid Dread and SMT5 lined up right down the door after that

Infinite is everything I imagined and more, and the professional scene is so much fun to watch. Beyond excited for the campaign. Sadly, cheaters are making their way into multiplayer. Hoping that gets resolved soon or it will turn into another Warzone.

Fire Whit.

I've had a few sweaty games and loads of fun in infinite and had one guy I wouldve sworn was a cheater but maybe he just could see through walls to know I was there idk. Still having a blast with it, wish for the love of all thats good they would fix the progression issues though.

How long has it been? How long since Leandros failed as an Ultramarine and blindly followed the Codex Astartes? How long since Titus was put into custody of the Inquisition? How long has it been before Titus became a Primaris?

By the emperor, it has been too long since Titus was last seen purging Xenos (this time Tyranids, first game was ORKS).

So my CPU's old age finally caught up to me. Halo Infinite is not well optimized but after the second mission on Halo my CPU usage went from 70% to 100 and wont budge from there even on lowest settings. FPS went from 40ish to 10-15 and its unplayable if any NPC moves it goes even lower. The CPU I had been looking at for a while finally came in stock along with the MOBO I wanted so I bit the bullet and lo and behold the MOBO was falsely advertised on Amazon and did not in fact have a BIOS flashback button so now I have a brand new B450 MOBO and a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU that wont work due to the MOBO having an outdated BIOS that doesnt yet support the 5000 series CPU even though it was listed as being up to date. F#@$

In contact with AMD to try and get a boot kit to update my BIO's with where they send a 2000 series CPU to use to boot and update then return. If anyone knows a decent PC shop near Richmond who might be able to flash a BIOS that would be super helpful I'm not too keen to bring it to Best buy and Microcenter is a 3 hour round trip drive so thats a last resort kind of deal.
Moral of the story if youre swapping from Intel to AMD DO NOT buy any 400 series MOBO they wont work out the box without an older CPU to update. Pretty shitty to sell something like that but I feel dumb not doing a serious digging on it to double check now.

I had the same issue when I got my 3600X a few years ago. I originally bought one motherboard, realized it wasn't flashed properly, then had to do a return and buy another motherboard. Very annoying process.

Which [non-working] motherboard do you have now (make & model) ?

I got the Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro Wifi its compatible but due to it shipping with an older BIOS is only plug and plays with a 2 or 3k series chip. Looked at the PC's at work all intel chips so I'll either return the board and get a 550 or if theyll do it cheaper than the difference between a 550 and the 450 cost I'll get either best buy or a local shop to update it. AMD want proof that Gigabyte wont fix the issue before theyll send a boot kit and Gigabytes support is hard to reach.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Return the mobo and get a different one?

Probably going to at this point I'm not thrilled with the added cost of a 550 but it seems the logical spot unless I can find a 450 with the updated bios but I'm a bit skeptical of anything that needs an updated BIOS at this point as it seems this is a common issue for alot of mobos with AMD.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

We're talking on the order of $50 difference right? My personal opinion, unless you really needed to save some $$$ by going with an older chipset, you should always be buying current gen mobo esp. if you are pairing it with a current gen processor, or if you have a legacy processor lying around to use with the mobo. Take my comment with some salt... i binged on a new system earlier this year and there was no question that I would be getting an X570 board or i just wouldn't build a new machine.

YEah its a difference of 50$ and money is kinda tight but it wouldnt kill me to go for a 550 though I gotta find one that works with my new RAM as well. Hoping best buy can boot and update the mobo otherwise im sending it back to amazon and getting a current gen one though this whole endevour has made me question all AMD boards.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

You need to remember when the 450 chipset was released it was a full 2 years before the 5xxx processors came to market. Their plan was to give consumers a clear path to a processor upgrade without having to buy a whole new rig, so they expected their users to have already had a 3xxx processor to use for the upgrade path. I still feel your pain though... I would still highly recommend just sending the mobo back and getting a new 550 (which gets you 2 additional sata ports) or going all-in on an x570 which gets you access to PCIe 4.

Returning the mobo today and going to local parts shop to get a 550 board since they have decent stock. Hopefully they have a compatible board for a reasonable price. Best buy would have updated the bios but for 60$ and didnt sound too sure on the process so I'd rather not gamble anymore and be done with it.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

good choice... from what I was looking at earlier today thats about the price difference between the 450 you had and the 550s. Hopefully it works out.

Local shop only had pricey boards with things I didnt need so went to best buy who had a B550 MSI GMP board and went with that. Had a slight heart attack when taking the new CPU fan off the other board when the chip came off with the fan as the thermal paste AMD puts on their coolers is like cement. Quick session with the hair dryer and a utility knife the CPU was off the cooler and then I proceeded to take off all the preapplied thermal paste to avoid that happening again and replaced with some good ol corsair stuff. Think I applied a little too much it leaked off the sides a bit once the cooler was on will probably pull the fan off this evening to clean up excess to not hit the board.
Got it running and installed Halo overnight so we can see tonight how it all performs so far so good once. Id love for a NVIDIA update for halo though to help optimize it. Might actually dip into overclocking now with this upgrade to see if that helps.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

a tip i got a long time ago for the thermal paste (after you clean the junk off the old one) place a very small amount (smaller than you need) on the CPU to start, and then while using a ziplock bag to cover your index finger gently spread the paste until it reaches every location and it only has the very thinest of coverage. If you need a little more, apply again in the center and continue to spread evenly. The result should be a CPU that is covered just enough so that when the cooler is torqued-down there will be zero excess creeping out over the sides.

Got the new CPU installed and its kick ass. Did some slight tweaking to the system and still Halo Infinite is a bit buggy and just simply not optimized well for PC but managing a solid 60-70 FPS of high settings with my 3060 XC 12GB gpu. Would love to get another 10-15 if they could add DLSS support. Multiplayer is too much fun though I'm still pissed there is no DMR and SWAT isnt on the playlist. They added "SWAT" but its with battle rifles not DMR's and I'm a bit ticked about that. Fiesta and ranked are where I spend most of my time online now.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

As a big fan of SWAT in previous games, I cannot stand SWAT in Halo Infinite. I can't describe exactly why, but it just *feels* bad to play. Like I'm using a little peashooter that doesn't do anything.

In 5 everyone wanted the BR because if you didn't head shot you could still get a 2nd shot and kill, I dont feel that way about infinite. I personally perfer the pistol in swat.

I feel like in infinite in general that Spartans take a lot more hits to kill. Every weapon and vehicle in the campaign feels over powered. Every weapon (except rockers and sword) and vehicle in multi player feel weak.

TTK feels up definitely from past iterations but I dont mind it too much it still feels balanced. Vehicles in campaign ar OP unless on legendary in which they are tin cans. Vehicles in MP however are weak and a nice way to die unless youre in a wasp.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

The only reason wasps seem good is because everyone playing is too stupid to shoot them, they go down so easy. I dont understand how 3-4 people using ARs take out the wasps at all

Me and a buddy managed to steal both wasps off a big team map the other day and we just wasted the entire teams spawn the whole match it was so much fun just gotta keep moving and they cant bring you down.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

If you got both wasps then I doubt you were playing a team that knows to take out the wasp.

I absolutely love the BR but its not good in swat. Swat was like poor mans snipe fun and the BR makes it annoying as hell. I wont touch it in infinite without the DMR its that simple. Its the only area I'll go after the devs for in not including the DMR.

So, if I were to use the Xbox remote play app on my laptop which in theory has better hardware than the Xbox (I believe, I'm not good at computer stuff), the games would still be limited by the capabilities of the console and not play up to the capabilities of the pc since it's essentially just acting as a remote monitor, correct?

Assuming you have Game Pass Ultimate (which I think is the only way to get Xbox Cloud Gaming anyway) you could just download most games onto your PC and play them that way. But unless you specifically bought a top-of-the-line gaming laptop, it's not likely going to be able to run most games better than on the Xbox itself, unless you're referring to the Xbox One.

But to answer your specific question, if you play through the Cloud Gaming app, you are correct in that your PC/phone/tablet is essentially just displaying the video output from the (virtual?) console on the other end of the connection.

Makes sense. Yea it's a One X, not a Series S/X. My work laptop is a pretty powerful machine so that I can run CAD and a few other programs on it smoothly, so I was just curious. As I said though, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to the technical side of computers so I could be way off. Thanks!

In my experience, the so-called "professional" or "workstation" graphics cards (which I would assume is in your laptop, if your employer bought it) work better with professional graphics applications than with gaming, but it certainly can't hurt to try, and if it works it'll certainly be a better experience than the Cloud Gaming service.

Good luck!

If you can post what you have under the hood we can probably tell you whether you're better off than your Xbox one x or not honestly.

I don't know much about it besides what the sticker says lol it's a Dell XPS 15 with an i9 processor.

If you go into settings on the taskbar and then about PC it should say what gen i9 you have and then advanced display options will read out what GPU it has on it. If it has an i9 in it it should be able to handle some gaming but alot of gaming as to do with the graphics card these days.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

If you have the PC game pass just play the games on the PC if its better hardware. I made the switch and dont regret it at all. Xbox app lets you add to your xbox gamerscore and account while playing on PC if thats important and you still have access to the social stuff as well.

Hades is an underrated game that is quite fantastic if you haven't played.

Was also going to recommend Hades. I have over 100 hours on my Steam account. Made it up to 32 Heat. I should play it some more...

Forza Horizon 5

seriously, the visuals alone are sublime.

Just for the 4k greatness? I'm not an Xbox guy, but I would have to make the assumption that MS Flight Simulator would need to be on that list. Its not for everyone (esp if you need to invest in the additional hardware), so I would get the game pass and try it there first.

Not sure if you're a Game Pass subscriber yet or not, but if not you can get 3 years of Ultimate for $181 or less by stacking Xbox Live Gold subscriptions together and converting 1:1 for only $1. And if you shop around for codes you can usually find a 12-month Gold card for under $50.

I did it 3 years ago in August, and I did it again this past August, and it is by far the best deal in gaming right now.
