If this is your first notice of other games this week, you've already missed Ball State take out Akron, Ohio beat Miami (OH), and EMU surprise Toledo.
Great news, though- Maction continues tonight! Former Hokie Khalil Pimpleton just took a punt back to the end zone to put CMU closer to WMU before the half. And NIU is up on Kent read tonight.
Thursday is a slow night, with only Georgia State playing ULL tomorrow.
On Friday, after our road trip out to the great state of Massachusetts (literally- I'm going to that one!), Utah and Stanford is on PAC 12 after dark.
Saturday's early ACC slate includes Pitt @ Duke, #9 Wake @ UNC and Georgia Tech @ Miami. Only NCSt and FSU are on after that.
A couple of interesting matchups on Saturday:
Early games include lovely ladies Liberty @ Ole Miss in a battle for Hugh Freeze's affection. And in a battle of (technically) blue bloods, Ohio State visits Nebraska in what should be a close one.
Afternoon includes the week's lone ranked matchup between Texas A&M and Auburn. OK State visits scenic West Virginia, and Penn State visits Maryland in a hopeful meteor-strike. Navy and Notre Dame as well.
The late games are stacked with what should be some good games, but no marquee matchups.
As usual, Follow along here!
And in the time it took to type that, Khalil Pimpleton scored two more Touchdowns for CMU (including another punt return)!

Comments
KP added to that with a TD reception, and ANOTHER punt return in the span of like 5 minutes.
I thought my stream glitched out on me when I looked up and saw him running back another punt return.
He's been phenomenal for the Chippewas.
๐ Billy Napier's Ragin Cajuns playing tonight at 7:30EST ๐
I'll be watching (some of) it because this could show off the next VT coach, but jeezus... this is the only and best game that the nation can get tonight???
Not much to see so far... ๐ฌ
Oh dear...
Twice in the first half that Louisiana is within 10 yards of the goal line and they go for it on 4th down both times. Fail to convert both times.
Seems familiar.
He'll fit right in
Less charismatic Fuente
Wut.
He doesn't check any more boxes than Fuente as a candidate for the job and he's less charismatic.
Of course if doesn't mean he won't be a good head coach but it's not like he's a home run hire
This to me is the biggest risk with Napier. No doubt he will want to run a recruiting-centric program with his Clemson/Bama experience, and he will demand a big staff to do it. But what are we actually getting as a coach? Napier seems like a high ceiling hire, but if the recruiting doesn't pan out, what's the floor with coaching ability?
Almost like an anti-Fuente on the 4th downs. Went for it when they shouldn't have
Watching what could have been with American expansion. Passed up the second best program in Louisiana and the 3rd best in Georgia to add North Texas and Rice...
What a 4th quarter by Louisiana, west champions for the 4th straight year, and they looked good in those black uniforms.
Duke up 19-14 on Pitt in the 2nd quarter. Could we be in for more Coastal chaos today?
Every time I've watched Wake this year I get excited about Clawson. He's got a high floor, which we need, and is showing this year he can win a lot of ACC games.
The problem is defense, but defensive performance is so aligned with talent level you'd think that recruiting at a VT level instead of a WF would significantly improve that. But it may not even matter when you're scoring 50-60 ppg in the Coastal.
WF is imploding
Pretty epic collapse. They were about to pull away and now they're needing to convert a 4th and ten to have a chance
Oooof.
Really still on their defense, haven't stopped anyone all year. They're still undefeated in conference though because this is a non-con. Must be nice to put up 50 points a game.
It says alot about the ACC that the Best team in the league has a Total Defense ranking in the 100's.
It says they have a pretty good offense.
I'd take it at this point!
Looks like Ohio State is going to survive Nebraska.
Being a VT and Nebraska fan Busch can't make their beer fast enough this season.
2 walking heart breaks that you just expect to not execute when push comes to shove.
Down goes Wake. I could see them losing a couple more with a very backloaded schedule. However, they still control their destiny in the Atlantic.
Yup. Sucks for Wake to lose that game, but they are still technically undefeated in the ACC conference standings. All they lost today was an undefeated season and a little pride.
Can't say that I've ever seen this trick play before
Wonder if that is one of our four plays.
Purdue bringing the coastal chaos to the Big 10!
Rank Cincinnati top 4, cowards
Sure hope so. And, assuming they both win out, will be rooting for Georgia over Alabama. Would just love to see how they could vote a 2 loss Alabama team over Cincinnati.
Cause Pawl said so. His show is word in the South lol.
Wow. Cincy with the goalline stand to win
Gutsy stand after that fumble. Survive and advance.
One of the most bizarre game endings I have seen. Tulsa turns it over on downs thanks to 2 great tackles on completed passes. Cincy then fumbles on the first play with less than 2 minutes left. 1st and goal and, just like a Corn-Fu coached VT team, Tulsa cannot get in. QB has a TD on third down but starts to side before the goal line and ball is dead there. Then they fumble trying to go in on 4th down.
TCU with a late interception to upset #12 Baylor!
A perfect strike by Hooker for a TD. His second of the game. F-U Fu and Corn.
Hendon Hooker has 159 yards passing in FIRST QUARTER with UT. And our brilliant coaches benched him
2 TDs on 5 attempts
Meanwhile, we just played a game where our coaches only allowed our QB to throw as a last resort
cool.... coolcoolcool
This TN-KY game looks to be one of those defense is optional games. Maybe not BYU-UVa-level, but getting there.
He is tearing it up, happy he got that chance.
Shane kicking Mullen when he's down
The locals are very restless with the Mullen Administration.
Fully expect Grantham to be let go and then Mullen to be on a very short leash going forward.
Edit: this is getting Ugly. Grantham will be lucky to have a job Monday.
Shane's post-game speeches are inspiring.
Also, for VT fans, THIS is inspiring:
Shane hugs Frank after Florida victory
Glad to see him having some success at South Carolina.
Tennessee only has 6 minutes of TOP to kentuckys 29.... tennessee is winning with 31 points
SHANE
Frank's having the time of his life watching SC while the program he built is in the gutter and quickly becoming a laughingstock of the ACC. Sickening.
It's amazing that Whit essentially ran Frank off after only two years on the job and back to back 7-6 records, but yet he has held on to Fu well past time to fire him and has allowed him to break nearly every record or streak the program had. I mean literally we run a legend out the door (it was definitely time but it's not like things had bottomed out) and Whit has allowed Fu to run the program completely in the ground. This is why I think Shane will never consider coaching at VT as long as Whit is AD.
Come on. Nobody ran Beamer off. He retired on his own terms because he realized his heart just wasn't in it and he realized that he just couldn't get it done anymore. You're really reaching if you're trying to somehow blame Beamer's exit on Whit. Whit literally handled that transition about as well as it has ever been done. This wasn't a Bobby Bowden situation.
If anyone believes that Frank totally by himself decided to resign, they are fooling themselves. He and Whit met about expectations for the program after 2014. I don't think Whit forced Frank to retire by any means, but I'm sure there were conversations on expectations for the program and how they were not being met. So two years of 7-6 under Whit's watch is not meeting standards, yet we let Fu run the program into the ground for six? It's like we just have given up on having any expectations for the program with keeping Fu for this long.
Could we fucking not do this in the other games thread? There's enough threads for this conversation elsewhere.
Again where is this speculation coming from? Frank retired... happily. At least as good of a send off as a coach can expect. Frank and Fu aren't comparable.
By this account we should either have forced frank to stay on or only give any new coach a 2 year cushion for results.
Frank retired happily is speculation as well.
At this point there is nothing to suggest he didn't go out happily. And if he didn't...it's a moot point because he's the type of class that never would have said so anyway.
What isn't speculation is that Fuente sucks as the head coach of this program currently and has run it into the ground. I don't care how happily he goes, as long as he goes.
Then I'm fooling myself. Beamer and Whit met about expectations, every year. Beamer could see the writing on the wall and took the decision out of Whit's hands. If he wanted another year I have a hard time believing that Whit wouldn't have given it to him.
I believe that Whit wanted to fire Fuente last year but was either over-ruled by his boss or the next coach he had lined up pulled out at the last minute. Without COVID, Fuente absolutely gets the axe last year. Whit isn't stupid. This year was Fuente's unexpected last chance and he shit the bed. We'll have a new coach next year. The only remaining questions are who the next coach will be and when will it happen.
Frank had health issues at the time. And while I don't recall him ever publicly saying it was the reason he retired, I'm pretty sure it played a part. Because the one time I've ever had even close to a source was a fellow I knew was close to the program and told me about it, and this was before even the public had been getting even whiff of something may be going with Frank. It wasn't THE reason, but it put everything into perspective and he went out on his own terms. Whit didn't force him out at all.
Hendon Hooker's statline is ridiculous.
Currently 15/20 for 316yds. and 4 TDs, with 10 carries for 44yds., and winning 45-42 over UK with 5mins. to go in the game and they have the ball.

"This game was about Herndon Hooker" is the announcers at the end of the game as TN wins. I'll say it again. F-U Fu.

West Virginia losing and Iowa State winning. If only Penn State could have lost it would have been a real good day. No dancing Gif w/o a Penn State loss.
8 ranked teams lost to lower ranked opponents, Oregon isn't out of the fire just yet and SDSU plays at Hawaii. This is the best year of college football.
Yeah we got a bunch of AP Poll Assassins this weekend
Seems like some teams are just monkeying around.
Biting the hand that feeds them, if you ask me
Seems like it's getting pretty hairy out there. It's enough to drive you bananas.
"This is why we came to Carolina, this is just the start" -Shane
Clemson is once again bowl-eligible.
Yep, thanks to Louisville Cornelsoning themselves on 1st and Goal from the 2.
We used to call that Clemsoning.
Please use the correct spelling, capitalization, and emphasis. It's CornLsoning.
/s... kinda...
Just to be clear, we're all switching to be USCe fans now, right? Okay, cool.
You can't make me like Cocks.
Not all Cocks but just the Game Cocks. All other Cocks are optional to be liked.
Nah jumping to a 5 win bandwagon seems premature.
Man I wish we could recruit players like this...
I wish we could retain them, when that's the obvious call.
is it a problem that it was obvious to everyone outside of the program that Hooker was the better option? You'd think that at least someone within the program would have recognized that if thousands of fans can see it.
I am so happy for Hendon
This is such a brutal indictment of CornFu and the abysmal roster management at the QB position in particular and of the whole team in general. "Let's roll the dice on the skinny short guy who doesn't make as many turnovers in practice, that's a winning strategy."
