A bunch of my friends and I are going up to the Pitt game and looking for a group to tailgate with. Anybody know the best place to park around the area up there? Post here if you're interested or if you know anything about the tailgating and parking situation at Pitt.

There are a bunch of pre-sold lots around the stadium. In my opinion the best tailgating goes on in Gold Lots 1-3 which are pre-sold, but it's not hard to find a parking pass online or to scalp them. Those lots are between Heinz Field and PNC Park. There are a couple lots that are open to the public that are not pre-sold. Red Lot 5 is the only one off the top of my head that is close to the stadium but you'd want to get there early as early as possible. If you are planning to tailgate, DO NOT park in downtown Pittsburgh. Park on the North Shore. If you get a hotel on the North Shore, it comes with a parking pass in a lot near the hotel which would also be a great place to tailgate.
I have a parking pass for Gold Lot 2 from a friend who is a Pitt season ticket holder. It will be a lot of fun. There are a couple bars outside the stadium on the North Shore (Tilted Kilt & McFaddens) that will be a lot of fun before/after the game.

Trying to find passes online
Having trouble finding passes within reason online. Most are more than I'll end up paying for the tickets, almost as much as I would pay for all of them. I saw on one site that said parking on gameday is about $8. Is that true? I don't mind getting to the lots early, as long as early isn't 6 AM.
I guess I didn't put into perspective that this VT/Pitt game is easily going to be the hottest ticket all season for Pitt. Their other home games are Youngstown State, Gardner-Webb, Louisville, Temple, and Rutgers. I wouldn't expect parking passes to stay that high. I would expect them to cost between $20-$40 for Gold/Red Lots. If you can't find something cheap enough closer to game day, you should be fine getting a decent parking spot, near the stadium, as long as you get there by 9:30am.... 10am could even be fine.
Gameday parking for $8 is possible, but it's probably a decent walk to the stadium and I'm not sure what tailgating will be like there.
I'm thinking the Public (Non-Presold) Red Lots will charge around $15. That's just a guess.
Hope some of this info helps.
I figured it was a big game
I mean looking at their schedule, Louisville is the only other good one. Now I don't believe the parking passes are worth the $160 some people are selling them for. Found Green lots for $80, but I'll hold out until closer to the game.
Now just to get the tickets...VT told me to talk to the Pitt office, the Pitt office told me to talk to our ticket office.
Thanks for all of your help though!
Postgame
There's a casino. Boom.
Where is everyone staying?
We are staying Southwest of the stadium, just on the other side of the River(s)? Where are the good bars to check out both Friday and Saturday night and possible tailgate spots? Never been to Pitt.
I'll be there +5
We aren't going to park, but we'll bring beer and cozy up with anyone who will have us.
If I can find a parking pass..
I'll have a spot with cornhole boards and such and you're welcome to join. The more the merrier.

If you're looking for bars on Friday and Saturday night, you can never go wrong with the famous South Side. Any bar on Carson Street will be a good time and you should be able to find one as I think there are around 80. My personal favorites are Marios, Local, Carson City, Fatheads, Coppertops, and The Library(It's actual a cool bar). There are other areas to check out, the North Shore, where the stadiums are, has a great casino. There are a couple of bars on the North Shore as well, Bettis's, McFaddens, Rivertowne, and Tilted Kilt just to name a few. For the most part, those bars are pretty quiet on Friday Nights, but they will be a lot of fun on game day. Other areas to check out for bars would be Shadyside and the Strip District. Downtown has some good restaurants if you're just looking for a bite. The famous Primanti's is in the Strip District but there is also one Downtown and in the South Side.
If it were me coming in from out of town, I would check out the South Side Friday night, tailgate in one of the gold or red lots (you'll need a parking pass) then head to the Tilted Kilt or McFaddens to watch the later games and to have a good time.
It should be a lot of fun.
Tailgate at Pitt
Got the tickets, got the hotel, working on the parking. As soon as I know where it is, I'll post it so those that are interested can join. Will have cornhole, a grill and who knows what else. Either bring your own stuff, or let me know what you will bring for everyone and we can work something out.
VT Alumni Association has Tailgate on RiverBoat
It's $30 and you have to register on the below website. After the first couple of beers when you run out of tickets you have to buy beer but there is a discount. There's food and last year at GT they had the Hokie Bird and some of the band stop by if I remember correctly.

make sure
on your way to or from the stadium make sure to stop in at Jerome Bettis' restaurant to use the restroom. While you are at the urinal you can look out onto everyone dining via a two way mirror, while you pee.
This is the pro-tip, of all pro-tips.
Why did that graphic make my day better??
RV Parking in Pitt next weekend
We are Hokies coming to Pitt from Toronto for the game next Saturday. We have not been able to find any info regarding RV parking in and around Heinz Field.
IF anyone else is taking an RV and can help us out, we'd prefer to hang with fellow Hokies and we've got BOARDS!!!!
not to spoile
the beer of the week next week, but if i were going, i would definitely hit this place.

I will be at the game
I haven't lived in Pittsburgh for over 10 years so I am not sure of any of the spots. I have tailgated at Heinz Field for both Hokies and Steelers games but have no clue where or how any passes were acquired. I don't have any specific plans for Saturday so if anyone does have a tailgate cooking and want a visit from a Hokie from Seattle, please post on here game day and I will happily make a visit.
Bring Beer
And you're welcome to stop by. We will be in lot Red 7B which is under the highway. If you want to bring food too, you're welcome to just be a part of our tailgate. Otherwise, feel free to stop by and hang out.
Tailgating/I Have Extra Tickets
Looking to jump on someones tailgate. I will be there in the gold lot #2 right behind Stage AE, very close right next to the stadium. It's only going to be 2 of us going so we are not taking a grill, food etc. Willing to chip in for food...we will have plenty of beer if anyone doesn't mind chilling out w/ a couple of Hokie Fans. I also have 2 club level tickets (Section 209) and 3 upper deck tickets if anyone is interested or needs tickets. If you have never been to Hienz for a College Game even though it's an NFL Stadium in the past the only place you can drink beer inside the stadium for PITT Games is in the club level and u must have tickets for that level to go there. Pretty sure that rule hasn't changed. It's the 200 sections.
HOKIES
Also will be at the game... Not sure where we're getting a parking spot but wed love to tailgate with other hokies... Well have booze and food for sure!
