Why was last thread frozen? It was focused and not that long.....
https://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2022/july/8/tell-tkp-apple-device-rec...
Probably related to this
Ahhh! Makes sense. I dont do Apple so i didn't check that thread. Thnx.
That is correct. Sorry I meant to post a message but was single parenting last night.
Great work by the TKP team, as always. Thanks for all you put into up keeping an awesome site!!
Looks like Takye Heath, who apparently is Macho Harris's cousin, is tearing it up at receiver on the camp trail. Can't embed, but rivals posted a video of him on Twitter.
https://twitter.com/RivalsFriedman/status/1545179603391680516?s=20&t=FQQ...
That last move was filthy. I think he will blow up once their season starts.
Is this Jahan Dotson?????
I know June was packed with camps and then the dead period started. Are there any big events or visits expected before fall camp starts in about a month?
Kamen Smith to NC State. Was a NC State / VT battle.
Yeah all the CB's were to State, but his cover photo on twitter was all VT D Linemen. Thought he might have been a steal for us but the experts were right again
Looks like we are one of the favorites for 2024 87 rated 3 star TE form Benedictine in Richmond
https://247sports.com/player/luca-puccinelli-46129475/
One of the Puccinelli clan is looking at the Hokies. Wow.
Looks like we may pursue another QB this cycle

I live <1 mile from his school (Dowling). Planning on going to a game or two to see him in action this fall.
Wear vt gear and bring a clipboard lol
4D Chess
Those were pretty throws in the clips. I like how Glenn and Bowen talked to him each on the same day and Pry has a call for next week with him.
This is what we would call putting in effort
Not to brag or anything but a Roanoke native and relative of mine just committed to VT men's golf. Ashton Harper! 5* human.
Let's go...
Literally fam!
Hokies! Fore!!!
4* edge from PA, CBs indicate PSU
https://247sports.com/player/tamere-robinson-46094935/
I mean as long as it's not Miami right?
Nah I'd rather Miami get good recruits than Penn State
Miami just got a 5* Edge guy. They don't need to stockpile talent until we are too lol.
They always stockpile the talent, they just can't coach it lol
there's a reason they went out and spent as much as they did on their new coaching staff, especially on defense. go check how many players are in the NFL who played defense for Kevin Steele, Charlie Strong, Joe Salave'a and Jahmile Addae (it's a lot)
Oh yeah I'd hope they'd be able to coach up talent now with spending as much as they did lol. Was just pointing out that Miami recruiting talented players was a common thing in the past so them getting a 5-start edge guy isn't much a change.
Kinda makes you wonder: did Miami do a better job of seeing the writing on the wall regarding conference realignment and the move closer to a P2, and decide it's time to put up or risk being left out? Maybe they decided to go for broke to see if they can get "baaack" and become nationally relevant just before hell really breaks loose.
No - the university got a huge financial windfall from Covid - so much money that they could fully find all of their academic initiatives, and had money left over to send to athletics.
They just got lucky that their financial windfall came at the same time that the college football arms race reached the next level.
Interesting, I hadn't heard about this. What made them so special that they got a big windfall and other schools didn't?
Column: Big-money coaches a symptom of misguided priorities
This is an opinion piece, but has facts of the situation and the storyline. I pulled the most pertinent facts from the article.
The university of Miami owns a lucrative hospital, most other schools do not.
Here's an excerp from an article detailing the university's increase in revenue:
Here's two excerps from an article in the AP:
Ahh gotcha, thanks for the explanation. When I read the original post I thought you meant the U had gotten some big Covid stimulus grant from the gov't lol
$14 Billion was given to the US Dept. of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, or HEERF. All higher education got Covid money if they asked for it.
Actually - they did get an 8 figure pay out from the CARES act in 2020. On mobile but I can dig up the article later.
Meh. Who cares about a team you only play every other year?
Carmelo Taylor flying up the latest 247 rankings from unranked to an 89 and #348 overall in the country. This dude WILL be special. If we land him it will be huge, we need a full sell from the whole staff. If we get the whole staff in PH to go visit I could see that really wowing him. Pry I hope you're reading
I want him BAD
dilly dilly
plz
I teach at PH and can confirm, this kid can fly. Hope we can land him!
Hope you've made a good impression about Tech
hope you showed up for class in your vt gear and brought a clipboard!
I think Taylor is just one hint that this staff might be good at evaluating. They've been early on some guys like Taylor, Keys, Hughes, and Bass who were unranked with few offers and are now fairly highly ranked and in big P5 battles. We'll see if these evals are accurate especially when we're looking at the 24 class, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Do the guys we offer early end up highly ranked/with a lot of offers? Even if we aren't landing these guys it will still make us competitive on the field because the guys we do land will be good players.
The thing is that our last staff did that too but the highly rated guys we brought in all wound up leaving and the rest of the classes were low 3*s with few offers
Here's some names to watch as possible "big wins" in year 1 on the trail for this staff moving forward.
* Carmelo Taylor WR - 247 profile
* Jordan Bass LB - 247 profile
* Cameren Fleming CB - 247 profile
* Krystian Williams ATH - 247 profile
Do you know of any DL we're hot after? What ever happened to that excel spreadsheet that showed recruits and who was priority, in state, etc?
DL... your guess is as good as mine. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go JUCO/transfer there.
We were on EDGE Elijah Hughes for awhile, but he got the dreaded Stanford offer.
Just saw this that might help answer my own question:
https://techlunchpail.com/blog/three-star-dt-ted-gregoire-hoping-to-visi...
https://247sports.com/Player/Ted-Gregoire-46132608/
I was looking through DL yesterday like what are the potential targets and this was a guy I was thinking maybe the staff should go after. 6-6 275? Yes please.
That google doc was maintained by someone at 247 i believe and just shared here for reference. I'll do some digging this week and see if i can find similar
2021 Big Board
Here's the big board from the last cycle. Not sure if this will help you all find this years (if there is one)
Thank you!!!!!!!!
there is a 2023 tab at the bottom of the doc that at least has some level of updated info fyi
yesssss, this is what I was looking for!
Thanks for the list. These are exactly the type of high-ranking in-state dudes Tech needs to land in order to get back to what it once was. Honestly if we don't eventually start to win 3-4 guys out of the Virginia top 15-20 every year I don't see things getting too much better.
2/2 so far, would love to hit all 4!
Feels like an important pick up to me. CBs for Ath/WR out of Richmond 87 rated 3 star Krystian Williams
https://247sports.com/Player/Krystian-Williams-46127897/
https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/Article/Krystian-Williams-an...
Dig a lil digging bc i was curious after our early July run of commitments --
In the much maligned, no good, very bad, awful 2020 recruiting, we had 3 commits at this point in the cycle: Lakeem Rudolph, Jordan Brunson, and Jalen Hampton. That class was only 16 commits in total after NSD and then further heavily supplemented by 8 additions from the portal
We are currently sitting at 15
commits for 2023.
Basketball Commit Alert:
Brandon Rechsteiner. 3* PG out of Georgia. Not super highly rate, but a decent offer list.
247 Profile
This kid has had a really good summer circuit!
Also, he's Scott Steiner's kid
That's wild
Better than being Charley Steiners kid I guess
This Cam be a great week π
2 CBs in so far
Reference:
https://247sports.com/Player/Cameren-Fleming-46131043/
Picked up 2 CBs today/yesterday
His Twitter says he is a 4 star and #1 corner in VA, but 247 says otherwise? Is 247 out of date or are those from a different service?
inflation running rampant i bet
rivals and espn also have him as a mid-to-high 3*
A much better offer list than years passed for us.
Chipmunks, Kabobs, Dogs, Hokies, Tar Heels? I think we got a good shot, but the Kabobs have had some momentum lately.
Who is the squirrel/chipmunk supposed to be?
Minnesota I believe
I thought the Kabob was stick puppet, but then I also thought the chipmunk was a squirrel until I read your comment and looked again. Thanks for setting the record straight.
the 2022 equivalent of the hat fake and i am HERE for it lol
Lol, now that's some sauce. Hilarious.
I had a feeling he'd go to UGA and try to be the next Jordan Davis
Interesting recruit. A lot of schools recruited him as an OL prospect. Not sure if he sticks with D at Georgia either
If there's any school willing to use someone that big on the DL, it's Georgia .
As we await Cam Fleming's commitment announcement today I think this is an interesting bit of recruiting news. Happy to see we're still pursuing DL recruits, whether or not they have committed elsewhere
https://techlunchpail.com/blog/washington-state-de-commit-jailen-ruth-vi...
https://247sports.com/player/jailen-ruth-46129267/
Also possibly pursuing a DB transfer

Landed Cam Fleming -- Carmelo Taylor next on the 31st?!
Would be a huge win for the staff to get Taylor. Gamebreaking speed at WR.
I think we're going to need a few of those.
His tweets are private (rare for a recruit, but I respect it), but he is moving back his commitment again. Probably a smart idea anyway. This could be one that goes down to the signing day wire. He wants to make sure he makes the right decision. I hope that he decides that VT is the right decision for his future.
If he moves it back closer to signing day and he has a big season, a lot of teams will come calling which they aren't right now. Committing early won't stop that from happening, but being uncommitted is a signal to other programs to jump in
In his case it makes sense. He's sort of a late-riser on the scene. Lots of schools will continue to show interest when you've got that kind of speed. If he shows out on the field this fall as well then I'm sure his options will grow. Either way, you gotta win these kinds of battles one way or the other, and it would be a huge win if we can ink his name on the NLI come signing day.
100% agree it's the right move for him. I'd wait until late fall at least. But for us it could be a problem. Although tbf it's only a slightly bigger problem then if he committed now then continued to blow up.

With the picture in the Tech jersey being the biggest and Penn State only having size small shirts on hand for his visit pic, we have to be in the driver's seat here right?
CB says Rutgers, Tea Leaves say his VT photo is the largest of them all
Son of Doc Gooden
So you're saying we cracked the top 4?
Him coming here isn't a pipe dream
Odd that 247 doesn't include Tech in the list of schools he's interested in even though we're in his top 4.
I don't think they have updated it yet since he just put out his top 4 yesterday on a Sunday afternoon
That's fair, but would have thought Tech would at least be on the list. Unless we weren't even being considered by him before and Pry made a big enough impression to go from Tech not being considered to top 4?
maybe the offer hadn't been reported, who knows. 247 usually a very good guideline but it's not the end all be all. i'd expect it to be updated soon
Not a take
Take or not, what I was referring to is the schools listed that the athlete is interested in, offer or not (there's a check on Y/N in a column for if there's an offer, so definitely not only schools who've offered). Tech isn't on the list, so being in his top 4 SEEMS like it was an omission or we made up a lot of ground from him not being interested to one of his top 4.
#GC2VT
Keep the pipeline coming
Picked up another pwo
https://247sports.com/player/nolan-albright-46125556/
Ethan Albright's kid?
I didn't look it up, but I bet you're right. Same HS as Ethan.
Fun fact: I played against Ethan in HS in both football and baseball. Dude was a knuckleballer of all things.
Can't embed right now, but...I'm ready to get hurt again gif
???
This is the tweet:
Posted by 3* VT commit Dante Lovett of Dematha. He tagged 4* UNC commit Chris Culliver and uncommitted 3* (but rising) Carmelo Taylor from Patrick Henry in Roanoke.
EDIT: was missing the link to Carmelo Taylor's 247 profile.
Flipping 4* players from UNC would be quite the nod to Mack Brown retiring and Pry taking over the VA/NC recruiting territory.
Pry vs Bly! The worlds shortest recruiting rivalry
Oh Canada!
Ishmael Findlayter
Might as well find him now, instead of later.
One of the few recruits who would come to Blacksburg for a warmer winter
Carmelo Taylor and Moteque Rhames both picking up CBs to USCe π
UVA still likely threat #1 for Taylor if they offer. Really surprised they haven't, I'm sure they have to know that too. Really hope we find a way to pull this out but we're likely below USCE, UVA and PSU, not counting any other offers that come later on
Taylor is back on the menu
Giggity
Who? Could we use full names or a link when talking about recruits.
I assume Carmelo Taylor, WR from Roanoke, 4*, would be a big get.
Yea Carmelo taylor. My bad π
I feel the need...
For speed...
Thanks.
That would be huge. What's status with Keys, Bass and Billups?
Billups is interesting. Everyone thought he be committed to unc by now but he's keeping a ear open. Bass is a pitt lean rn. Keys tbh haven't heard much about lately
Trouble in paradise with USCe?
Surprised no one is talking about Chris Parson's
I some saw less-than-reliable smoke around him right after he decommitted from FSU. If we want a 2 QB class then that would be a solid pair between he and Wittke. I've since seen more reliable smoke that he we are interested/in it to some degree. I'm just in a holding pattern because I'm not too sure what the staff has envisioned for this class, but I am excited about the direction of recruiting, and particularly about the cookout which seems to have been a major hit.
There is a cb in for Elijah Hughes.
.88 3 star edge from WL in Nova. Would be a nice pickup at a position of need
https://247sports.com/player/elijah-hughes-46129781/
Probably gonna be a DT here
Wow this would be a huge get. Thought for sure he was going to Stanford
This would be a huge huge huge win for JC Price
JC gotta earn that pay and get this guy. We need DT cruits
