Let's GOOO!
HOOOKIES!
Fuck Hugh Freeze. Did I do it right?
Stellar execution
I've never seen a combined tweet like that. (edit: it shows up as "Liberty Football β & Virginia Tech Football β " in the app)
It's a newer feature. You can co-tweet basically, so both parties approve it and it shows as going from both accounts.
I AM WILLING DUB NUMBER THREE INTO EXISTENCE
Nice work, where has that will been the last seven?
Liberty puts the student section in the first few front rows right behind the visitor bench. Why am I not surprised by that.
We used to do the same thing. Corps of Cadets used to sit right behind the visiting bench. We moved my sophomore year bc of new league rules.
Fuck this whole ass thing.
I hate this game. I think we'll get blown out, but I'm here for it. Hopefully we'll see some progress in some way today.
No names on the jerseys....okay

Not enough time.
OMG WE BLOCKED THE LAST GUY STRAIGHT INTO OUR RETURNER
To be fair, Beck could have made it to the edge and beaten everyone down the field.
He probably scores there if we don't throw the last guy straight into him lol.
At least my ESPN+ app doesn't keep randomly dropping the game and going back to the home screen
wow first game of the year I am unable to watch. Banished to ESPN+, and no I don't want to pay 99.99 a year to watch this one game. Funny thing is I had it scheduled to record on some channel and we apparently got booted by Bally for something else, which seems, well, appropriate
What an AWFUL spot
Honestly, think we did it to ourselves. Lofton fighting for the spot after getting pushed backwards probably cost us the forward progress that would have been right around the line to gain.
I think if he's just driven back there he gets the forward progress...but he broke free and made a football move. But I'm no official. π€·π»ββοΈ
Coach Mines carried out a V Sabre flag as part of our flag group
Classy AF
liberty's QB looks like a chipmunk.
Gonna be annoyed if Holloway's redshirt gets burned to just fair catch some punts today.
Pry and Co. Didn't have a choice. He and his family have told coaches they don't want him to redshirt.
Then he needs to work into the WR rotation.
Yep just hope they work him in at receiver today and can get him out in space.
*shrug* Holloway and his parents want him to play
We don't need to be concerned about whether Holloway is here in 2026 or not, imo.
I moved my good chair to the corner for this game and I have to say, it's actually a pretty nice view.
The bigotry they are, the weller they fall
I thought the ACCN commercials were terrible.
Another week of watching the game being illegally streamed on YouTube.
Wells with awareness to avoid the sack. Damn.
Some else calling plays today???
If Gallo had jets that would've been a TD lol
Halloway had a nice block set for him at the goal line.
Stupid play by Wells. Scramble then throw it out the back of the EZ. Don't take a 10 yard sack.
Meh, sack there doesn't really matter as long as its not so significant that it knocks you out of field goal range. It's better than risking a turnover by forcing a pass that isn't there.
I disagree. It's situational awareness. You can throw the ball 20 rows into the stands. He was outside the pocket and as long as it crossed the LOS.
Luckily the penalty bailed us out.
TD! Hopefully not the last of the day!!!!
Nice drive and way to finish. Thanks Liberty for the redo on third down.
Good drive
Nice to get a TD early. Solid drive too. Let's keep it going!
Get ready for ten straight non scoring drives! π€£
The having scored points streak lives to see another game
I guess it's ok to say, praise Jesus! π€£
Why the hell can't we snap a FG or punt? Been shaky since the first game.
We were spoiled with Oscar Shadley
Wells is an idiot. I want him gone.
Not how I would describe it, but I would certainly prefer an upgrade at the QB position next year as well.
He's being asked to play a system he wasn't recruited for.
The same applies to everyone on offense.
He was recruited by this staff to this offense
Incorrect. He was recruit for the system we ran in the spring and the first half of the year. We adjusted to an RPO system, that's not his game (but he is better at it than Brown).
Gotta get pressure. Too much room in the secondary.
LOL they just gave their TE two extra yards on that spot!
Bill Roth: "That's something new, Tech didn't get inside the 20 last week..."
Didn't we in the 2H when we didn't convert the fourth down?
.. Good job D, ... Now let's put more points on the board. I like that.
Sounds like my typical Saturday. Baby!
I am already fuming we are playing at Liberty.
I'll settle for a couple of first downs, moving the ball. Get in a rhythm.
...or two yards and 3-and-out.
You'll get a three and out and you'll be happy that it wasn't a turnover /s
This is what we've become.
So we've already benched King again?
This is the part where the offense goes dormant for three quarters, right?
Of course we don't get the loose ball.
Fucking Chatman
At least it wasn't his first blown coverage
That Douglas kid is having a bad time.
How many BLATANT holds are not going to get called??
So bad
Really well executed hold on the DE.
I'm not the only one that saw that then? It looked like he just full on grabbed the hell out of him.
Damn, would have been a huge pick there to kill their momentum.
It's alarming how much better coached and better executing Liberty's offense looks. We absolutely have to make a change on that side of the ball this off-season, something, anything.
Laziest corner blitz I've ever seen coming from Chatman on that last play
I saw better effort from Albert haynesworth when he was in the league.
He would have bounced off him anyway!
At least they made it looks easy.
How could I see a QB draw coming on that and none of the players or coaches seem too?
Wow. Was it super obvious to anyone else how they were setting up that run? Jfc
I mean we've only been giving it up for 4 straight weeks.
This is where the wheels fall off, right?
Suboptimal defensive possession there
It was, but there were blatant holds in front of the ref on two of those 3rd down plays. Not sure how those weren't flagged.
You could see that qb draw coming from a mile away!
Terrible tackle "attempt" on that. Reach out your arms and get posterized stiff arm.
Shit, here we go
Beck is the fastest man on the field. Line him up as WR!!!
King with a big play. Time to sit him for the rest of the game.
Oh, look...King back in for a big play.
Great block by 86
No idea where Wells was going with that one
And King pops a massive run. Why wasn't he starting the game? Terrible personnel decisions on O.
So...if you get King outside, he can break a decent run off, who'd have thunk it.
Jalen not sure what to do with open field
I honestly feel bad for the guy. He's been a true Hokie his entire career!
And Holston tackles himself.
Holston slips and fallsπ€¦π» If king had that hole it woulda been 6
Holston didn't know what to do after no contact...lol
Situational awareness.
Now that was a truly horrific decision
He thought Parker clements was the TE
Wells is a fucking idiot
Holy crap he had Holstein in the flats. Wtf
Boneheaded play by Wells. Just killed our FG chances.
what an incredibly dumb play
It was a terrible play call to start. Nothing they've done leads you to think a screen would work. The intentional grounding was actually smarter than taking a sack.
Also if we don't find another QB next year, nothing else we do is going to matter.
Yeah it would be nice to have continuity at QB, but this guy ain't it
Agreed. People say QBs get too much credit/blame but I really don't think so
The whole fucking offense had no idea what they were doing.
Why the F didn't he just toss it to Holston at the start of the play??? He had nobody on him
I thought that was the planned play.
It was a screen call. Idea is to chip the rush, let them pass and then throw over them. OL forgot to touch anyone. Wells had no chance. Only thing he could've done better was take a knee as soon as when saw the screen blown up.
I hope we just take the points here. We are doing a decent job moving the ball. But a stop on fourth is momentum change.
It would be progress π€£
Wow
I mean why not
The kicker option play. I love it.
Really ballsy play call! Like us playing with nothing to lose at this point.
Running a fake on Liberty? Let's go lol
FAKE!!!
First smart ST call this year.
Most creative thing I've seen out of the offense/special teams all year!
So King just has a nice run then he sits until the series.
LET'S GO
HOKIES!
HOKIES!!!
TD Holston.
Wow. Just wow. Hurry up and go for it on fourth. Pry finally found his balls.
Got some fight in us today!
...but we still have the 2H.
Even the kicker is out here breaking tackles!
So we're just going to let Black and Duke transfer because we're playing a senior.
I assume Duke has played in 4 games so they're saving his redshirt? No reason not to IMO.
π it's dukes first year.
Chance Black sucks, he's gone anyways.
Duke is a freshman...
This offense is way more fun when we can run the ball.
EDIT: maybe I haven't noticed it before, but this tweak with Gallo motioning in to block on a Duo run is pretty interesting. Liberty is starting to catch on, but it's helped pop a few runs now.
We keep running this play and I'm not sure if we've seen a single counter off of it.
Clean snap on XP. I'm happy.
I wonder if we were saving that fake for UVA, but given that we might not play the game, Pry called it here.
It's pretty sweet to have a freshman kicker that athletic.
Damn. That sack was HARD
Give me moar
Lawson needs to play more. He's really growing through the year. Starting to get head away from his feet.
He's going to be a huge piece of the puzzle as it relates to the rebuilding process, but right now he's completely lost out there (for the most part). I suspect, now that they seem to have settled on his position, he'll grow leaps and bounds this off season.
Keli Lawson is a part of our future
If he can put on some lbs and keep his speed. Damn.
Like the aggression from Conner attacking the Qb there. Even though he didn't make the tackle, he slowed him down and prevented a big gain.
I also believe Marve is calling the D today. Which probably has helped free up Pry to help with game/clock management better.
This is what I was gonna ask. It looks like he is from the camera.
Pry said Marve was ready for it, but wouldn't say if he was actually going to be calling today at his pressers. It's past time, so I hope he's giving him a shot today.
Does anyone else think Marve might be calling the defense? Coming out of that kickoff they showed Pry a couple times without a play sheet in front of him with his mic up and cut to Marve looking at a play sheet talking into the mic.
Edit: Drink
Nice defensive series, there.
Does Marve has any eligibility left? Dude looks like he could suit up and okay today...losing the glasses, of course.
The glasses give him the early Bud Foster jacked-up nerd look, and I'm all about it.
16 yard punt... I'll take it
Did we flip the punters curse?
Noticed our LT?
Slid Danz down to RT and playing Chaplin.
Blue you're my boy!
Blue has had two nice catches today
VT +140 to score first π²π²
Two players who really, and I mean really stood out on the sideline when I was at the GT game: Keli Lawson and Xavier Chaplin. They look different than the guys around them.
DaeQuan Wright lets go!!! MORE TO HIM
He needs to play. A LOT. More.
Especially with this offense's clear emphasis on TE usage. He's the kind of guy who can be a difference maker.
Houston is just not a receiver. Doesn't have the body motion to adjust.
Most RBs in the country wouldn't have been able to catch a 100mph fastball from a QB. It hit him in the hands, so yes, technically he should have made the catch. But that was on Wells. He has zero touch.
Not necessarily that okay. Just in general. He doesn't adjust to the ball (typically turns the wrong way, instead of upfield). He should be in on passing downs.
Dzansi was going to kill someone on that QB run...but there no one there.
He still ended up putting a Liberty player on their backside.
I love it. He needs to be aggressive and move forward. Too often he is on his heals, passive. That's when he gets cooked.
That was a crappy 3rd down call
I would have liked to have seen a TE drag route there.
Would have liked to have seen something to the far side with king just outrunning people
All the momentum and made a scared call.
I wanna be Lenny Kravitz when I grow up.
Annnndddd, special teams strikes again.
Oh good.
Son of a bitch...
Fire Stu Holt into the sun
Here we go again. 2 score lead and then just immediately implode.
And that's why we can't have nice things
Our typical 2nd half collapse is coming a bit early today.
And least this gives the defense some extra time to breathe before the next drive
Stu Holt and Bowen really need to be looking around...
Will be a big test if Pry can make the needed changes Fuente couldn't
Won't happen this year or next. Only hope is for adjustments.
Yeah that's true
If we don't make changes because of money, after announcing the Reach program and putting a ton more funding into the assistants pool, because we overpaid unqualified coaches and have to hang on from them, that will probably be the biggest signal to me that this program is done.
Except they both have three year contracts.
What's the opposite of Beamerball?
Stuball
Lots of complaints through the year about Bowen as OC, but our special teams have been by and large pretty poor outside of Tucker Holloway's one game.....
The offense needs work, but if anyone needs to go it's holt.
And I think that game was less about our ST and Holloway, and more about the GT kicked outkicking his coverage. You could tell a big return was coming after the first two punts.
Apparently kick-out block means block in the back.
Additionally, apparently "stay in your lane" means create space for the runner and be especially careful to not tackle him.
I miss the days when our kickoff guys would just blast them past the endzone consistently
Wind looks pretty strong in that stadium. Sucks, as we'll be facing this direction in the 4Q as well
Microcosm of the entire season right there.
Develop some momentum...then implode spectacularly.
Stu holt can find his own way home. Worst special teams I've ever seen at Tech
I bet Jordan Love makes that tackle...
Need to answer strong right here
I have emotionally prepared myself for run, run, sack.
Run sack sack work for you? Granted after s nice set of downs but ooooooooofuh
Oh look, King with a big reception.
This is going to get really ugly in the second half. again.
Look at our 4th quarter scoring differential on the season... (source)
Most of the time it has been because the offense can't eat clock and the defense is absolutely gassed in the fourth.
Couple good runs by King.... get him out of there
As requested. Holston comes in and gets tackled for loss.
Liberty with the Virginia Tech tackling technique
...and Wells takes forever and gets sacked.
Step up into the pocket and throw the damn ball.
Pretty good throw by Wells... Smith needs to give that some better effort
Throw the damn ball!!!!
Shitty call, shitty read, shitty result
We are allergic to doing anything well. Got a couple big plays, a good start to the game, go up a couple scores? TIME TO PANIC
King's fault for not scoring on the long pass.
Our offensive line is the worst I have seen in over 20 years of being a fan. And it isn't even close.
It's not great, but it's not even in the same conversation with those OL's from Curt Newsome. Those were by far the worst ever.
Newsome's teams on the average were extremely bad but you compare Newsome's worst line to this line and this line is easily worse.
Tyrod covered a lot of his ineptitude
Liberty scores here.
Liberty gets the ball coming out of the half.
Liberty scores again.
28-17 before we know it.
WRs can hold regardless, right?
Guess so. Cause they've done it on back to back plays.
Let's see if we can keep a team from scoring right before half.
Need a stop here. I'm more nervous on third and long than short.
Heck of an effort my Garbutt. Same thing happened last week and Dax got left in the dust.
Great result on that play, but HUGE hold by the LT
Holding doesn't exist today. That much has been made clear.
Huge play by Garbutt. Definitely thought the QB had an easy first.
Nice play by Garbutt!
QB change for Liberty. Hmmm
Held on to Garbutt's face mask for dear life there
Workman-like defensive stand there to shutdown a drive. Something we haven't seen so far this season when momentum started swinging hard the other direction.
Can we just avoid giving the ball back to them before halftime?
Not feeling good about our odds at the moment.
Nope
Probably not
Have to have one of the worst point differentials inside of two minutes in the half/game.
Oh ffs....
Throw. The. Damn. Ball.
It's like he's waiting until the perfect opening. Run some timing plays and "throw the guy open".
Man, wells is just so darn hesitant about everything he does. Brutal.
Wells simply does not see the field at all.
One silver lining, we'll have over 21:10 in TOP if we have the ball going into halftime. A rested defense should help a lot
This offense is apparently not capable
Like someone said earlier, continuity at QB would be nice, but Wells really isn't it. I will gladly eat crow if he comes back next year and balls out.
Peter Moore found his groove again there. What a boom.
He started skipping practice.
Sick punt
For all of the conversation, of which I've been a part, about whether or not Pry will make it, this much is clear - Liberty is as or more athletic/talented than this VT squad.
"there you are Peter..."
"Great punt". Not something we've heard a lot about is this year.
There's the old Peter Moore.
What a punt by Moore!
Moore got his swag back today
Terrible PI call
You know it's bad when the commentators say it's wrong
Lol of course
Horseshit penalty there
WR ran back into DB to initiate contact.
Awful call.
Weak PI call!
That's a stupid PI. Conner was the one looking for the ball...
Weird how we suddenly can't get any pressure.
Tough when they keep moving the pocket and throwing quick outs.
And when our DTs are getting tackled.
His knee was down.
But it wasn't holding. Tripping.
They nailed the tripping call, but haven't called a single holding call yet today? What the actual hell is going on lol.
Not. A. One.
LOL they really don't want to call holding
Edit: drink
Wont call a hold, but called a trip.
It's not like the holding is right in front of them or anything.
How does our defense allow almost every team to score right before half. Ffs
Only a full 2 quarters of the offense going flaccid today. Believe it or not that's an improvement.
Stop me if you've heard this before...we've outplayed the other team this half. But we're not winning.
I want to be happy that we are competing today as I expected a blowout (which is still on the table), however its Liberty...
Why the hell wasn't the clock running? I know they got the first but that ball was set 10 seconds before they snapped the ball.
I didn't realize Liberty had MB12s little brother on the team.
This angers me.
Yeah. It's his third school in three years. He was advised to retire due to concussions (6!), so he transferred. ...and got hurt.
Pretty sure he transferred from a Texas school. I don't think he should be playing football with his concussion history.
Baylor. Utah. Liberty.
And our offense can't sustain a drive when they need to. Like I don't even need points just get a first down.
2-8. Take a knee. Don't even try to score.
Running a dive play three straight times, while not running down any clock is Bowen's version of this
That kickoff looked out of bounds
Laundry list for off-season:
1. Move on from Stu Holt. Special teams are putrid
2A. Move on from Bowen. Not ready to be OC at this level. But may be too expensive to move on from/too much collateral damage with other staff to bring in experienced OC, so;
2B. Reassign Bowen to TE/Co-OC and make Glenn Co-OC and playcaller/primary scheme guy. If still bad we can shake up O staff after year 2 and bring in a new guy.
3. Find an impact transfer portal QB. Wells ain't it.
4. 2-3 portal WR, 2-3 portal OL, perhaps a RB if one is out there, focus on DL and secondary for D transfers
2B is more likely than 2A.
If we've learned anything over the past several years, Portal QBs are a crap-shoot (not just at VT).
We have to try. Wells is a known quantity and I don't see him becoming a game changer suddenly. If nothing else we need competition.
I heard Tennessee ended up with a good one. π€£
True, but they didn't know it at the time. It took an injury to the starter for Hooker to get a chance.
So we open up the second half and kick it short to the one player who we don't want touching the ball...
Big 3rd down play here! Need to stop em!
So now we don't have Halloway receiving punts?
He looked like he got nicked up on the punt he returned in the first half
Get Wells out of the game. SMH
Seriously. Why is he holding the ball in the EZ.
He didn't have time to even get a chance to throw it. They should have rolled him out so he could throw it away if he needed. If he throws it away there, its grounding and still a safety.
Depends on where the ball goes
Of you're going to run a delayed handoff, you have to block the DE.
That explains the Duke approach backed up last week π
Pocket awareness is non-existent
His strength is throwing the ball. Throw. The. Damn. Ball.
So this is going to go well...
I really don't want to watch Wells under center anymore
Wells and Bowen are hot garbage. No awareness at all from Wells, no one at all to pick up the blitz off the edge. Just unacceptable.
Is this rock bottom? Please tell me this is rock bottom.
I'd say yes, but I thought we had hit rock bottom a few times before this.
0 wins does seem like an achievable low for us
It's like we have success early, then out those plays in the shredder and refuse to go back to them.
Remember the RPO, zone runs, TE drag across the middle? Gone.
My theory is Glenn is setting things up early and then Bowen comes in and stinks up the joint.
Bet we don't come back after this. Game is done.
The way the team is sticking with Wells when he's clearly not good enough and the team is already 2-8 tells me Bowen won't be going anywhere we're gonna be stuck with this shit again next year. This is awful
Who do you want to play? Brown is even worse and the two youngsters aren't ready.
I want one of the Freshman playing as many snaps as possible. They should have been playing since at least the Duke game to save the redshirt and let them play the rest of the year. Our season is over, Wells is not the answer, at least if we play the Freshman now and don't land a portal QB this off-season the freshman has some reps starting next year, because if this teams trots Wells out again next year we're gonna be winning 2 games again
QBs are like starting pitchers. If you put them in too soon, you absolutely wreck their confidence. Its one of the reasons MV7 was redshirted and he could have started as a freshman.
Our younger guys aren't ready. Its a disservice to the rest of the team to start somebody whose not ready and basically give up. That would be the coaching staff quitting on the team.
Wells might be the worst QB we have started in 40 years
Were you there for Noel?
You beat me to it. I was going to reply "Grant Noel would like a word".
I'd definitely put Wells somewhere above Noel though for maybe second worst. I'd even give Sean Glennon the edge.
Sean Glennon won a lot of games for us. His talent wasn't as a scrambling quarterback and the offensive lines that he had did him in.
I would compare Glennon and Wells on their ability to hold to ball too long. I remember SG holding the ball forever against GT and taking 100 sacks. And don't get me started on the Peach Bowl.
Sean definitely had frustrating moments for sure, but he did win a lot of games for us. We were pretty anemic offensively in 2006 but we still won 10 games, and even though he and Tyrod split a lot of time in 2007 he still started the bulk of the time and came up big in the Miami, UVA, and ACC Championship games (think he was even player of the game in that one). Had very good arm talent.
Holding all day on that return but whatever
So we run down the field, find blockers, attack said blockers and pay very little attention to the person with the ball.
Does Holt even instruct our coverage team that they can tackle the returner? It's like they think they have to hold them in position for someone else to tackle.
every LU player looks stronger and faster than the VT counterpart
Probably are. We are that lacking in talent. I am beginning to think it will be year 3 before we see a winning season again.
Which players selected Liberty over us? We're undeveloped. Not untalented.
Not saying they were direct h2h crootin battles, but rashaud pernell and stephen sings were both DL committed to us who never enrolled and wound up at liberty
Pipe dream here
Special teams absolutely atrocious. I mean just stupid bad
Lawson is fast.
How in the world was that not a hold on the kick return????
Holding's not a thing today!
Fair catch at the five!!!!??? What the holy hell?
that was a line drive too! High odds of it going into the EZ
Why do you fair catch it at the 5? You let it bounce and you have a decent chance at a touchback. No awareness what so ever with any phase of this team.
Why did he catch that?? His foot was on the 5 yard line and its very likely that ball rolls into the EZ. Now the offense will go into a shell, run three times for no gain and punt.
or safety again
Because our ST coach is a moron.
If you're gonna fair catch on the 5, isn't better to just let it go and take our chances on a touchback.... Not a fan of fair catches inside the 10.
The offense and special teams are just so putrid. The only way I'd want to donate to the Hokie Club anymore is if it were for Bowen and Holt's buyouts
O was averaging 8 ypc. This half 2. We've adjusted out of our own strength.
Are we going to adjust from running up the middle which they have picked up on or just keep doing it.
Honestly, nothing leading up to this point in the season makes me think we will ever change this. It's almost like Bowen is determined to prove this can work.
"Well it's bound to work at some point"- Tyler Bowen...probably
Hey Bowen, "What's the definition of insanity?"
Official per the radio guys- Marve now calling plays on D in the second half
Seriously. Who is calling these plays? Liberty knows exactly what we are doing every play.
Does someone in the crowd have a vuvuzela?
We needed that scramble. Lets gets some points here and get back on track.
Wells made lemonade from lemons there.
That was a called draw. Thank goodness he broke a tackle.
When you make a play that makes the radio announcers say "why?"..... you messed up.
Wow. We rolled out. Novel concept.
Are these clowns blowing a horn? First the fake key jangling on 3rd and now they're blowing a horn.
Someone smarter at football than me may be able to confirm. It looks like whenever Wells hands off he leans forward right before the snap and almost steps into it. It doesn't seem like he does that on play action/pass plays. Almost like a pitcher tipping his pitches if that's the case.
I noticed that too
You would think our coaches would see that and coach him.
You'd be wrong.
Yep, it's called fundamentals. Something this team has lacked for many years now.
Situational awareness. Slides 2 yards before the sticks.
Gotta protect yourself for that 2-9 offseason
Oh look. Their QB threw it away instead of taking a snack.
Do not edit this to fix the typo
My phone is hungry
We are pissing down our own legs again.
We should have gone with maroon pants...
When haven't we shat ourselves in the 2nd half this year?
Why does Liberty call short passes (swing passes, screens) to slow our rush?
It's almost like our O should do something like that.
Our refusal to get the ball in the hands of playmakers in space is mind boggling.
Because we HAVE to run dives on at least 1st and 2nd down...and 3rd down if Bowen's feeling saucy.
Too busy trying to strip the ball to make a solid tackle.
This aged well!
Well it was a good one and a half qtrs.
WE'RE ONLY DOWN 5!!!!
Right? Keep your head up gang! We're in this.
Oooff....
Turns out that's all we needed.
Turns out that's
allwhat we needed.Liberty's defense is flexing their muscle.
No...Bowen decided our working plays we no longer useful.
Liberty is putting 8-9 in the box. Yet we right into their teeth and refuse to make them pay
Two outstanding plays by Garbutt there.
I feel bad for him, played his butt off this year and won't get nearly as much recognition as he deserves because this team is so utterly awful.
Smith has just given up. He doesn't even bother running his full route. Tells me that they're not even calling his number.
This announcer called us Virginia 3 times in a row in the first quarter and just said that was a really well designed return by Liberty
Blue was wide open. Checks down to King.
Announcer says if he just saw him. Yet he was looking right at him.
No. 2 was wide the F open!!!!! What are you doing wells?
Am I late to the party on commenting on the Liberty band playing the super smash bros ultimate theme song over and over?
It's the song that UVA plays. Auld Lang Sein but with different words.
Edit: unless it's a different song you're referring to and I'm just an idiot.
No that is not what I'm referring to
Blue was wide open layered behind where Wells dumped it off. Big missed opportunity there.
GET RID OF THE BALL
And Wells take yet another snack.
At least they called holding on us. Shows they know how to do it.
And of course when you can't take a sack you do. Throw it away!!
I'm done with Wells. Get the damn ball out!
91 yd drive coming up!
Wells had #2 open for a 15 yard gain and checked it down on 1st down
Holy shit, dude
If the defense doesn't get a pick six then not sure how we win
Jordan is trash at center, can we get Dax's brother in there?
Jordan is a turnstile.
55 got blown up on that sack and Jordan is a r-Sr. That's pathetic.
Yeah. But his snaps are terrible. So he's got that.
Wells has no game mgmt or situation awareness whatsoever. Sack and repeat.
Stro comes in high and out of control. Grabs the face mask.
I think we jinxed ourselves by putting up "our state" signs pre-season. We are about to lose to every team in VA.
Good thing Twitter is about to collapse so we don't have to get flamed by every other schools media team!
Chapin to come out. What the hell was that? Just lets the WR ride his back instead of trying to make a tackle.
Wells really has derailed a lot of drives. He is holding the ball entirely too long. It is sad.
It's glaring. He makes the absolute wrong read on his passes a majority of the time
Our single biggest issue on offense is personnel.
Wells is awful. He's actively holding us back with his shit reads and forced plays.
If we had a QB who at least had pocket awareness and could see the open guy more times than not, we would have several more wins this season.
He's afraid to throw the ball. He looks, waits and then pulls it down. He's supposed to be a gun slinger. Well...sling it.
Counterpoint - he didn't lose us the game. and that was enough. guy has a lot of work to do.
Every week, I turn on the game prepared to see an absolute shit show. We watch a quarter or so of average to decent football and I think, "OK, here's some progress." Only to be followed up by the worst football I watch on any given weekend.
I knew we'd be bad this season, but dang...
I agree. All three units have looked capable at times. But none have strung 4 good quarters together. Or even 3 or 2.
I tell myself its a product of having a first time HC, first time OC, and first time DC.
It is, but this is also where depth and talent come into play. Depth is self explanatory. Talent... if you have one guy who can break a couple tackles and score, it gives everyone a break. Instead, this team is forced to play perfect just to get 5 yards.
Agreed. A few studs out there could go a long ways.
Why doesn't Bowen watch their offense and say "hmm...we could do that". You know, get the ball out quickly to playmakers in space. Such a novel idea.
Everything in this offense is so slow developing. Slow developing runs, or slow developing long pass plays.
With an OL that can't block. Great combination.
Marry, Fuck, Kill:
1. Grant Wells
2. Tyler Bowen
3. Stu Holt
Go!
Fuck Matt Ryan.
Brian Kelly killed a guy.
I need another TKP euphemism about marriage.
Life's a bitch and sucks, then you marry one and she doesn't.
Not exactly about marriage, although I do think he has words on that as well, but this video is one of my favorite things to show my newly engaged buddies. Everyone, myself included, thinks "our wedding won't be like that", but fast forward a few months and it's almost all true.
The sad thing is this is a winnable game. Wells is what he is but EVERY single Holston run has been the same play call and for some reason we can't seem to figure out that King can out athlete this defense.
King can't run it from the sidelines.
This might very well be our last game of the season, let's get another QB in the game the rest of the way.
A small mercy there.
Meanwhile they are playing the long game and wearing the D down
By long game you mean driving 91 yds
We have ZERO speed other than King on offense - he should play LITERALLY every down of the game.
Wells can't see the field and doesn't know how to avoid a sack.
I've seen progress this week again regarding penalties and turnovers (so far) - and I'm going to credit PRY all the way for that.
But we need some players or this whole campaign is doomed.
I stand by this is the worst o-line in 20 years at VT. Wells is ABSOLUTELY not helping and cause some of this but a lot is on this putrid o-line.
OL is bad but Wells is also holding onto the ball far too long and doesn't know how to throw it away.
Can Delane play QB?
Delane is so good. I'm really worried that someone is going to hit him up with a big NIL deal and he's gonna transfer and play with his brother.
They're totally going be a package.
He needs to be our biggest NIL deal or whatever it's called
This is absolutely going to happen.
Delane, Halloway, Thomas, and Duke are the only players I can think of off the top of my head that I would be upset if they left in the transfer portal. Otherwise, I will be "meh".
Holloway making good use of his blown redshirt.
Someone needs to get King some stickum. The gloves aren't enough.
Knowing us he won't play again in this game.
Run up the middle again
King looked down to me on my bootleg youtube stream in 480p
Nah, it was 100% a fumble. It was out WAY before his knee was down. I am one those psychos that actually has ESPN+.
Grant Wells missed a TD there...
He's scared to throw.
I agree. I'm sure between the pics and the losses he's lacking confidence.
SMITH WIDE OPEN AND HE THROWS TO THE WIDE RECEIVER THAT'S OUT OF BOUNDS
Another huge missed throw by Wells!!!
Wells just does not see the open guy
He had two there.
Again! Wide open over the middle. And he throws it to the guy basically standing out of bounds! Get it together wells!
The wr was ACTUALLY standing ob
He had someone dee abd the crossing route over the middle. Wide. The. F. Open.
I know, and the guy he threw it to was literally standing ob for an incompletion
I got so angry I missed that they actually called it an incompletion.
Wow was Smith open
We gotta score here
OMG the TE was open for a TD
Why can we convert a short 4th, but can't run block on 1st down?
QB draw lowkey our best play and it hurts
What a great catch, and a huge 4th down conversion to follow it up.
At this point it's easier to count the throws where Wells makes the right call than the wrong one
Our first 4Q points in 4 weeks!
Touchdown Tech!
Holston has been playing decently today. Picked up quite a few important yards for us with the 3 tds, 4th down conversion and a few other gainers.
It could be his last game in the Tech uniform if UVA cancels for next week.
If it was, he went out on a high note. He has been a point of frustration at times, but I'm happy he got to ball out and then was unselfish by listening to the coaches and not scoring at the end. Could've had 100 yards and 4 TDs, but put team first and fell down to kill the clock.
Gutsy drive, gotta go for 2
Good play to just get that one home.
Edit: We never get nice things. ugh.
Man I enjoyed Smith jawing in that Liberty player's face there.
It was because of the cheap shot the gave him when he scored.
... It's so weird you get the ball in the hands of your playmakers, and good things happen
And Wells made the right read! Thank you sweet baby Jesus!
Anyone but Grant Wells. No field vision, slow on getting the ball out, even on the two point conversion.
Great, physical drive there. A positive from today can be seen right there. These boys are still working to find out what a winning culture actually is. Now the D needs to step up and help us finish!
The 2 point conversion was nice!
Edit: well shit
Crisp and fast. That's how it should look. we've lacked that much of the year.
Ive seen improvement today - clear improvement- the offense lining up right - and limiting penalties. we may loose, but we look better.
Missed wide open TD aside, that's one of the best drives I've seen from us. Assertive running, critical first-down pickups, and take some actual time off the clock. I have no idea how this game will end up, but that looked pretty good.
yes. that was maybe the best drive of the year.
Wow
You have to be fing kidding me.
And the 2pt conversion doesn't count. Wonderful...
They waived off the 2 point conversion? What on earth?
if wells throws that the first 2 seconds kaleb is open then he doesnt get blown up
This. Wells waited far too long to make that throw.
maybe he waited. But Caleb 100% should have held that.
Ugh nah. that's 100% on Caleb.
Improvement is incremental?
You are kidding me! That is not how the rule is interpreted both feet were down in the end zone with the ball. Conversion is good.
That was my assessment and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night!
Never had control, it wasn't a clean catch
You could see the ball slip down after the hit and before he hit the ground. Looked like he never had full possession on the review.
real weak on Caleb should have caught that
I had a feeling that 2pt wasn't gonna stand.
When they went to commercial i thought we were lucky they called it complete and good -- of course they reviewed it and called it off...... probably the right call but that is BRUTAL. We'd all be howling if the teams were reversed and it stood.
π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
That's the Danny Coale rule. Can't believe that shit burned us again.
Ok defense, let's make that bullshit meaningless.
I got no problem with them calling it off. I was surprised they called it a catch in real time. You gotta finish the play.
WE are about to see their full-blown attack mode. see what we've got.
We're doing the thing again where we stay back 9-10
Yards and give up big gains.
I'm ready to be hurt again gif
yea. we likely lose but Ive seen improvement - that's better than previous
You will be. Liberty is driving on us again.
I'm a big fan of Lawson and Mansoor
We will have to score again. Can we do it?
See what happens when you actually throw the ball.
Two feet down in the endzone with the ball, play is over at that point, this is nonsense that he needs to survive a hit and maintain possession after hitting the ground.
That's some home cookin'. Damn
But...they don't call penalties on Liberty.
That was a good PI lol
GOOD BLITZ CALL BY MARVE
Rush three on that 3rd down? I miss Bud.
Make me believe, coordinators. I want to love you Bowen and Marve. Meet me halfway.
Holy shit we stop someone when it counted!
Great defensive call there and not playing deep
I can't believe they went for that. Desperation is a stinky cologne.
Hugh Freeze yet again showing poor game management. Why go for it there?
Maybe he thought that we could run the clock out if he punted it?
psh, what an idiot!
FEAR!
They wanna beat us so bad they are playing Madden
Because he's seen our game film. How many big third and fourth downs have we given up?
We've been running it well all game. Don't get cute now.
Did someone give Bowens playbook to Hugh?
Think i saw someone in here say Marve is calling plays in the second half? I've been largely impressed
I did. My info came straight from the radio sideline reporter
Yup. If he keeps this up I'm good with him. Defense has been plying well for the most part.
I wanted to ask about this... It looked like he's been carrying the playsheet around all game. Was wondering if he was calling plays today.
Now can the offense hold up their side of the bargain or allow just enough time to go down points and not have any time to do anything
THAT IS HOW You RISE To the MOTHER FUCKING MOMENT MARVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow I thought for sure they were gonna convert. Let's run this clock out
Run the ball with authority and eat that clock
Has Wells always done that "lean forward" thing when getting the snap? I don't recall seeing that motion before
I think that's brand new this week. I'm hoping this is a telegraph to hit the pop pass on this next play.
Crowd noise from the 22k in attendance
Wife said it looked like a high school stadium from the pictures she saw
Not sure what freeze is doing with the timeouts/game management here. If he was gonna use timeouts this early, why go for it on 4th and 12?
And Grant Wells strikes again
Jesus Christ Wells...
Throw the gaddamn ball. Seriously. What the hell???!!! Take a 15 yard sack????
It was third down at midfield and we're trying to run clock. Why would he throw it away? We're punting either way and throwing it away stops the clock, what do we gain by throwing it away?
About 20 yards of field positon for the punt. Give them longer field to try and drive.
cannot take that sackk
Throw it away at least!!!
Throw. The. Ball.
Wells is an accident waiting to happen.
Wells takes another sack. WTF.
And ballgame!
Don't you dare jinx us damn it!
This guy doesn't give his receivers a chance to make plays
They're going to have to come back and take it out of his hand
Awareness is LACKING
Yea - Wells needs work. but there really wasn't anything there. at least not an INT>
Wells isn't the answer, I hope we get new blood at qb next year
The only positive to taking that sack is that it forced Liberty to use another timeout
Defense I trust in you...
Ok here we go again Marve. Can you do it? I choose to believe you can brother.
DEFENSE LET'S GOOOOO
BOOM! DEFENSE IN BLACKSBURG AGAIN!!
Ok, now put Brown in and salt this away.
DEFENSE!!!!!!
LETS GO!!!!!!
HOKIES!!!
HE HAD A GUY WIDE OPEN AGAIN
Fucks sakes, Wells
I.... Might be a bit behind
Garbutt!
