Hokies getting drafted in the MLB draft is now becoming routine. Following Gavin Cross drafted #9 in 2022, Drue Hackenberg has been selected 59th in this years draft, heading to the Atlanta Braves.

Jack Hurley is the highest rated prospect on the board right now, should be drafted soon.
Nats snagged Dylan Crews. I'm happy.
And Miami's slugger at 40 well below projected draft slot.
Nats are stacked at OF and 3B in their farm.
They need to evaluate/draft/develop better in these mid to late rounds though, too many mid draft pics that aren't developing.
An outfield of Wood, Hassell (?), and Crews has the potential to be nasty.
wood and crews will be lit, both have the offense for a perrenial AS selection and the defensive skills for elite center. Nats have about 4 options for that 3rd spot (Thomas, Hassle, Green, or Lile) , just depends who figures it out or if they retain Thomas.
With the way Braves develop pitchers this was a really good spot for Hackenberg
The only thing I'm afraid of this draft is if our top 2 recruits next year get drafted high they probably gonna sign to play minor league
Have Smith and Dickerson indicated about wanting to stay committed or willing to go if drafted in the right slot? Based on projections, they look to be 5th rounders ($300K-$500K bonus).
I haven't seen them anywhere indicate that they were staying or Signing. Just going off of history
Smith was drafted in the 3rd by the LAD at pick 95. Bonus slot is $705k.
yea. I saw that. Premiere franchise, top 5 program for development, and a good chunk of change for signing. I think if that's me, I'm going pro.
Dickerson picked in 12th round (#341 overall) by the Padres. Gets a signing bonus of at least $150K with the new rules. Definitely a decision to make, and NIL could be a potential factor. Not suggesting that Triumph would match, but he should have greater popularity as a Hokie over the next 3 years than as a minor league farm hand.
Yeah I think it's a 50/50 chance
That is a heck of an athletic family bio. I forgot about the other ones besides Christian for football.
As a Braves fan, I approve.
Too bad the Braves took their spring team out of Disney. That was an easy way to get kids down to watch a little baseball.
I hope he likes pitching in the World Series.
We'll see how his numbers develop in the minors. Strictly by the numbers he regressed from Freshman season to this season.
