FAM! The start of the winning season streak under Pry. 41 points against a good defense. Drones with the single game rushing record and the Hokies with their Bowl team rushing record.
Awesome last game of the college football season.

The biggest culture thing I saw was Lofton diving for a fumble on special teams. He didn't need to play, but not only did he want to play, he played hard af.

453 to 252 yards. First half wasn't great, but we turned it around in the second and didn't take our foot off the pedal until the final minutes and still picked up a first down with a third string(?) RB and backup QB to finish the game.

As much as our guys kept their heads in the game, it was good that their team didn't give up and we still shut them down.
And we scored more on them than they allowed all season, the next highest being one of their other two losses of the season, to Ole Miss who scored 37.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Didn't score 30 points in a game last season and did it in every one of our 7 wins. Also, we averaged 43 points per game in our last 4 games of the season.

Two fumbles were the ball just coming out of Drones' hands. That's 100% the weather, then a couple others, one a helmet hit - I think almost every time I see the ball get hit by a helmet it comes out - that's more bad luck. Some of the others, the ball just comes out so much easier in heavy rain. Honestly, in dry weather or light rain, I'm guessing we have maybe one or two fumbles (the helmet and MAYBE one other).
The other thing is we caused some turnovers, and even WITH the turnovers, our offense was VERY productive against a good D.

Amazing bowl game, love a good hard nosed running win!
Team fought hard all season, love their grit and that Pry is making positive changes and bringing our identity back.
Stats note (maybe): Not that it matters, but I think Tuten's 9 yard TD run in the 3rd quarter was actually a forward pitch from Drones, maybe we will be able to see it in the GIFtory.
It's so great to be excited about VT football again...GO HOKIES!

I've been trying to figure out how to think about this stat... I think it (a) speaks to our schedule and (b) speaks to how some teams are match up issues for us, and others very much are not.
Our offense kinda feels like foster defense in his last half decade, in the sense that they were always feast or famine.

I think it's more Bowen and the personnel meshing. After all the criticism last year, Bowen showed that he could adapt to defenses and who was clicking on offense. Still working with some limited skill ability, I think we were just more prone to being hot and cold based on the day, though how it progressed and with bringing in more of the coaches' recruits and who they think fits their scheme, I think it's more indicative of the positive direction than a fluke
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If it were just a matter of personnel meshing, we would not have lost by 30-some points to Louisville.
I do think the OL limitations are a factor - Either you had the talent to over power our OL (eg; Louiseville, FSU), and you beat us, or you couldn't out play our OL (Syracuse, BC, UVA), and we won easy. There was no in between.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I tend to agree that we had limited personnel that good teams could exploit (oline/LBs) that mediocre teams couldn't exploit. There were a number of plays that ours LBs over ran the play yet the RB wasn't good enoughto take advantage and ran into other players. FSU didn't have that issue, they just ran by everyone.
I was a wierd year for VT fans, we beat the bad teams and lost to the good teams and played blah against the mediocre team (NC State). It's been a fun year, I'm loved watching this team, but I'm still not sure how good they are.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think Louisville was the only game I didn't see this season, so it's hard to say about that one. FSU's defenders were FAST. There wasn't breaking away from those guys the same way we did against other teams. I honestly wonder how much of our OLine play is youth, both from the perspective of experience and older guys having more time in the weight room. Like I want to say it was rare to start anyone younger than a junior, and we've just had misses on the line in terms of ability so we're starting younger guys who might be more competitive in the ACC with another year or two under their belts.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I feel like this is trap thinking. Even with a poor Strength of Schedule, it's still beating 7 teams by 17+ points. Mediocre teams I'd think are not likely to have a large margin of victory over mediocre to inferior opponents. Plus, if SoS played into it, I'd think you might see a team or two in there that had one of the worst SoS rankings. Like a big fish in a G5 pond.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'd say you should take a look at prior seasons and see how they compare. Yeah, some of our wins were against crappy teams, but (without bothering to actually check) I feel like we haven't managed a lot of convincing wins the last few years, even against the shit teams.
I think if we had a solid offensive line and better LB play, we beat NCSU and are much more competitive with Loserville with the exact same offensive skill players. FSU would still have blown our doors off, most likely. Looking at this team going into next year, those are the key areas we need to improve if we want to be a factor in the ACC race. Good news is that it looks like those are exactly the areas Pry and staff are focusing on.

I'm not saying this team is bad or undeserving. Just that it very unusual for a team to win big over bad teams and lose big to good teams. We're a very average team (maybe slightly better), and displayed it in unusual ways.

Gotta admit, DC was right about shit weather. Kudos to him on that. Great win though. Could have been a lot more convincing which is really good. For the last decade we've heard about "one or two plays" being the difference in close losses. Now we're good enough to make several mistakes and still beat a good team by 3 scores. That's big, big

Good, that's what needs to happen to get better obsess on the little things, 55-3 was 41-20 tonight, but it might be 27-34 against a top 10 team, and then we are back to complaining about 1 play.

OSU was the last time we beat a team to have 10+ wins in a season. The last time we beat a team that already had double digit wins was Cincinnati in 2008, but that was 20-7. In 2007 we beat a 10 win BC by 14. Which brings us to Texas in 1995 by 18 points as the only other game I could find that VT beat a team with 10 or more previous wins in the season by 3 scores

Had a prime spot in the north end zone, so some friends and I painted a "Sportscenter Coming Up Next" sign on a twin sized bedsheet and got on TV at the end of the game. Of course everyone at home was without power thanks to the hurricane so they didn't get to see it, so I contacted the video dept. in Jamerson and they were able to make me a copy to send home. The only thing stopping our rushing offense was throwing the ball.

Do we think this is a problem or just bad luck? Happened a few times in the season at inopportune times as well.
Tulane has gotten takeaways all year and the wet conditions didn't help either.

After the FSU debacle, I can't take any sort of "ranking" from the committee seriously
Green wave? More like green trickle.

Green trickle requires a doctor's visit! 🤣
At LEAST one.

Who would have thought- Bowen tearing up a team with the Fuente play (IVR)
We just fucked up a top rush defense on the ground.

we went from 122nd in rushes over 30 yards to 1st. Improving by 14....
FAM
Looking through the ESPN play by play, I only count 3 runs for 30+ yards in the game, am I misinterpreting your "14"?
Drones for 51
Tuten for 44
Drones for 38
Season totals. We had 2 last year. 16 this year.
Ahhhh that is much more plausible lol, thank you. Leg.
And I believe that might be most in the nation - thought I heard a report state that in the post game presser.
Yes tied with liberty. For 40+ runs we are 2nd because Marshall is 1st, so I feel like we helped them a bit too much.
Yeah I'm realizing how awful my wording was.
2022 we were ranked 122 with 2
2023 we are 1st with 16.
All smiles FAM rain be damned. Mixing up mudslides in honor of the win.
Fam
If we're going to compete for an ACC championship we need to upgrade at least 2 starting OL spots, MLB, Safety and add another DT to the rotation
FAM, that's a problem for future Pry, not today Pry.

You know things are pretty good because nobody is calling for any coordinators jobs.
Is that allowed?
I've never been in this position and I've been a rabid Hokie since 2003!
If this ain't That Dam Truth(TM)

I'd have assumed you meant that we gave up 400+ rushing yards.

Can't believe the season is over. What the fu...
Short for "what the Fuente." Meaning lost in confusion or totally screwed up, as in:
We are fu...', SnaFu..., ACC officiating is Fu....
Synonyms: Corn, WaHoo football. Antonyms: Pry, Bud.
Double Fu = CORNFU
BudFu...the act of a legendary defensive coordinator propping up a terrible G5 offensive coordinator and head coach!
FAM. Bowl win in our own backyard. The Fam made it all the way to the end. Still drying out 24 hours later

I will forever compare this game to Miami in 2009 in the best way possible
why not 03 aTm?
I was but a wee teenager at that point and not able to attend that one lol. But your point stands!
I was in the stands. Row QQQQQ in the east stands.
I still haven't thawed out
My first game. Painted up with some friends and stayed the whole time. We, too, we're at the top of the east stands. Maybe not 5Q tho
My memory of that game
Pretty sure I watch the game through the precipitation forming below me
Had a prime spot in the north end zone, so some friends and I painted a "Sportscenter Coming Up Next" sign on a twin sized bedsheet and got on TV at the end of the game. Of course everyone at home was without power thanks to the hurricane so they didn't get to see it, so I contacted the video dept. in Jamerson and they were able to make me a copy to send home. First year I had season tix, 5Q on the far north aisle. The year we did not play GT. That was some rain. For nothing. But I had a great time.
Thunder bowl was an incredible amount of rain. Chicken hill was a river.
I LOVE THIS TEAM FAM!!!
3 wins last year -> 7 this year = wins increased by 233%
So logically, 7 wins this year -> 16.33 wins next year.
You can't argue with math, fam!
FAM! - just coming around this morning- came down with the 'rona yesterday. Only caught most of the second half in a bit of a fog
FAM! Yes this was our first bowl win since 2016, but when was the last bowl that we won by 3 scores? 2 scores?

I'm still drying out.

From the rain? or from drinking? or both? /s
Fam! My wife's water broke as time was running out, and we had our first daughter yesterday morning! Good day all around.
Edit: thanks everyone!
Congrats!
Wow, and I thought I was excited for the win! Congrats on your new Hokie addition and hopefully you can celebrate her first birthday somewhere warm for the next bowl game.
They'll have to celebrate off day and in the following calendar year cuz it'll be a January 1 bowl
Nice of your wife to wait until the game was well in hand. That's a pro move right there.
Almost. He did probably miss the trophy presentation. /s
He got a personal trophy instead! Congrats!
Could have named her "Tulane", but that's probably a bit too much to ask.
Kyrona?
Kevin
That's awesome! Congratulations to all of you!
Congratulations!!!
FAM... we gotta make this plaid for our man!
Plaid is pretty hard to do now that the threads are TKP only.
Make plaid 50 or 75?
Better idea: gain substantially more paying members to where 100 upvotes isn't impossible to get again.

CONGRATS FAM!!! Geeze that was a great day
Congrats!
Option 1. Does that mean you left early and didn't see the whole game?
Option 2: Timing is everything!
Luckily we were already at the hospital to be induced, so I saw the whole game sitting in the delivery room! Heading home today!
Literally FAM fam!
